After moving to their new home, Bonnie's family didn't have any trouble sleeping in the new bed and slept quite well.
Gu Ye will be reporting for duty next Monday. Today, I'll go register his household and transfer his child to another school.
Liu Jiu will be entering the first year of junior high school in September, which will be perfect for her to be with Gu Xuanyi.
Since Gu Ye was at home, Bao Ni didn't concern herself with these matters.
Her goal today was to further organize the things in the house, especially the kitchen supplies, which were a bit too full to fit.
Bonnie looked around and saw a space about one and a half meters long and a little over half a meter wide on the north side, opposite the balcony. Bonnie looked at it and thought that she could build a cabinet from top to bottom, which could hold a lot of things.
Bonnie took the measurements, and all that was left was to find a carpenter.
Bonnie planned to ask her sister-in-law that evening; she should know where there was a carpenter.
Gu Ye handled things quite smoothly; the child's school transfer, household registration, grain ration book, and non-staple food ration book were all taken care of.
I can start school next Monday. It's a school for military personnel, with primary, middle, and high school all in one place.
Military schools have always placed great emphasis on education; even during the most chaotic years, the schools remained stable. Now that the college entrance examination has been reinstated, the schools are placing even greater emphasis on academics.
In the evening, Gu Ye cooked dinner, and the house was cleaned up, with rice, flour, and cooking oil all prepared.
"Gu Ye, do you know who lives across the hall from us?"
Bonnie was quite curious; they hadn't encountered this once since they moved in yesterday.
"I'm not really sure. I think it's some department that's in charge of logistics, but I didn't pay attention. There are many large compounds around here in the entire Beijing Military Region, including those for the Air Force and the Navy, and there are even more families there."
Gu Ye knew his wife's temper; she disliked dealing with cunning people.
"Honey, we don't cause trouble, but we're not afraid of trouble either. If you get along with someone, spend more time with them. If you don't get along with someone, just ignore them. If you're not interested, just be with Han Ye's wife."
Bonnie knew that Gu Ye was worried about her, but there was really no need for him to. She could entertain herself and find things to do.
In later generations, even neighbors who lived across the street for over ten years didn't know each other's names, let alone residents of the same neighborhood who didn't recognize each other.
She's used to closing herself off and living her own life.
In recent years, she hasn't had many people in the family compound with whom she can chat or interact regularly.
She wasn't the kind of person who was adept at social maneuvering, and Gu Ye didn't require her to engage in diplomatic maneuvering. She could live her own life leisurely.
If there's a suitable job, she'll go to work; if not, she won't force herself to.
Six-Nine and Three-Seven are also getting familiar with their surroundings today; this family compound is quite large. There's a military service center, a medical clinic, an auditorium, a sports field, a bathhouse…
The living facilities are quite complete, and you basically don't need to leave the compound, which is surrounded by other compounds.
The siblings strolled around for a while and got to know most of the people. As for who to hang out with, they weren't in a rush; they'd meet them slowly, better to have none than bad ones.
After a good night's sleep, the next day was a day off. After dinner and cleaning up, Gu Ye and his family went to Gu's older brother's house. They had something important to discuss that day.
When they arrived, Gu Lan's family had not yet arrived.
Bonnie saw Xuanyu; he'd really grown into a young man.
"Second Uncle, Second Aunt, Six Nine, Thirty-Seven." Gu Xuanyu was visibly happy, especially when he saw his Second Aunt. His large box of conch shells was all sent by his Second Aunt.
"Not bad, you've made your parents proud!" Gu Ye patted his nephew on the shoulder; the children have grown up too.
"Six-Nine, Three-Seven, your brother will take you to play. Six-Nine, do you still remember Zheng Jun? He still talks about you."
Gu Xuanyu knew that his aunt and the others would be coming over soon and that he had something to talk about, so he took his younger brother and sister out with him.
"Remember, let's go out for a walk and stretch our muscles." Liu Jiu hasn't exercised much for several days; she was in the car before, and she's been busy packing things these past two days.
Gu Xuanyu took the children out, leaving four adults in the room.
"Sister-in-law, are you moving?" Bonnie asked as she saw her sister-in-law packing her things.
“Yes, your older brother has retired from the military, so it’s inconvenient for him to live here. We’ll move to the government compound; it’s not far.” Bonnie understood and helped her sister-in-law pack.
"Brother, have you decided where to go?"
"In the south, the leaders want to develop the economy, so they've designated an economic zone there to give it a try. I've been in Beijing for years, so I need to go down to the city and gain experience for a few years before I can come back and have a chance to move to the very center of power."
You too, a brigade commander under forty, that's high enough rank. There's probably no chance of promotion in the next few years. The battalion you're building doesn't belong to any branch of the military; it's directly under headquarters, so there's a lot of room for growth. Do a good job.”
Gu Ze is no longer worried about Gu Ye; he has something to hold onto, and he acts with more method. The two brothers can now complement each other.
Gu Lan's family arrived before 10 o'clock.
"Eldest brother and sister-in-law, second brother, second sister-in-law," Gu Lan and her husband greeted.
Gu Lan is thirty years old this year. After getting married, she had two sons and a daughter. She has gained a little weight, but she is not bloated and looks quite energetic.
Gu Lan's husband is now the head of the security department at the Beijing Machinery Factory. He's quite capable at work and more adept at interpersonal relationships than Gu Lan. This is what Gu's sister-in-law and Bao Ni had told her before; they've kept in touch over the years.
"Gu Lan, let the children go outside to play. Xuan Yu and the others are downstairs."
"I'll take them to find Xuan Yu, so they won't be crying later if they can't find him." Lin Sen made an excuse to leave.
He knew that it wasn't appropriate for him to be here to discuss the matters that needed to be discussed.
Gu Ze did not object, and Lin Sen took the child out.
"I called you here today to talk about Mom's will," Gu Ze said. Gu Ye felt downcast and his heart ached.
"Big brother, I have no right to take Mom's things, I don't deserve it." Gu Lan's tears fell; she really didn't deserve it.
