Bonnie handed the food she had brought to Zhou Weihong and asked her to put it on a plate.
The Han family now has two branches living in this general's building.
Han Ye is the eldest son, two years older than Gu Ye. They both took the entrance exam for military academy. After graduation, Gu Ye went to work at the grassroots level, while Han Ye stayed in the headquarters.
Han Ye's mother refused to let him go to the company, as both of her older brothers had sacrificed their lives, leaving her with psychological trauma.
When it came to Han Ye's younger brother, the college entrance examination was canceled, and his brother directly joined the army; otherwise, he would have had to go to the countryside.
Han Ye's younger brother is quite capable. He didn't rely on his father's connections and worked very hard in the army. Now he is a regimental commander in another military region.
Han Ye's third younger brother didn't join the army; instead, he went to a worker-peasant-soldier university and is now a technician at a factory. The factory isn't far from the military region, and the four of them live with their grandfather.
Han Ye and Zhou Weihong have three children. Their eldest son is sixteen years old and in his first year of high school. Their youngest daughter is twenty-three years old and in her second year of junior high school, taking her high school entrance exam this year. Their youngest son is also nine years old, the same age as their seventh child.
Wei Hong put the food that Bao Ni brought into a fruit plate, then took out some snacks from home and brewed a pot of tea. She was preparing to hold a tea party.
"Sister-in-law, are Auntie and the others not home?" Bao Ni thought her aunt and the nanny were home, but she didn't expect that Wei Hong was really home alone.
“My mom and Sister-in-law Jin went to visit a friend. She had some old friends coming over, and they went to a restaurant for a get-together.”
Zhou Weihong is an accountant at the department store. She worked overtime last weekend and today is her day off.
"Sister-in-law, has the Yang family next door always lived here?" Bao Ni had been to this compound a few times before. Back when Grandpa Gu hadn't gone to the retirement home, they had been coming and going here.
"No, they used to live on the other side. They moved here two years ago after Uncle Yang got a promotion. The house here is bigger, and his family is larger."
Zhou Weihong didn't know Cao Wenze. She had only heard Han Ye mention him two years ago, and that they knew each other.
“I didn’t know about Wenze’s situation before, and I didn’t know that the Yang family had so many stories. Later, I asked my mother-in-law and found out that the current Aunt Yang was a second wife. She seemed like a respectable person, but I never expected that she would break up someone else’s family.”
Zhou Weihong used to like Aunt Yang quite a bit; she was a gentle and soft-spoken person.
"Have all her children gotten married?" Bonnie was quite curious. The two of them were going to chat anyway, so what did it matter what they talked about?
“She has three children. The two older ones are sons, who are married with children and live here. The younger one is a daughter, who is only seventeen years old and will be taking the college entrance examination this year. Her grades are average, and her chances of passing are not high.”
Wei Hong disliked Yang Xue quite a bit; she had a bad temper and always looked down on people.
"How many grandchildren does she have, and how old are they?"
Bonnie thinks about Shengnan and her two siblings. Looking at them now, they're all pretty good. She wonders what will happen to the mistress's offspring.
"The eldest son's family has a son and a daughter, and the second son's family has a daughter whose wife is five or six months pregnant. The whole family is always arguing and bickering. The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, the sisters-in-law, and the sisters-in-law are all outwardly friendly but inwardly at odds. Especially the youngest daughter of the Yang family, who is very bossy and rude to her two sisters-in-law."
Yang's eldest daughter-in-law's family also came from the same compound. Although her position was not as high as Yang Junzhang's, she could still put up a fight against her mother-in-law and sister-in-law when they occasionally clashed.
The second daughter-in-law comes from an ordinary family with many siblings. She was classmates with the second son of the Yang family and is beautiful. The second son of the Yang family insisted on marrying her.
Commander Yang didn't care, since he himself didn't come from a high social class. However, Aunt Yang disagreed, complaining that the woman's conditions were not good enough and that she looked too seductive.
However, her own son took a liking to her, and in the end, she became pregnant out of wedlock. She had no choice but to accept it, even if it meant refusing to admit it.
Even after marrying into the family as she wished, life wasn't easy. Her own family wasn't supportive, her mother-in-law looked down on her, and her sister-in-law despised her. Her first child was a daughter, which led to another round of scolding. She would secretly cry, but had to endure everything else.
Zhou Weihong didn't understand what was so good about this kind of marriage.
Bonnie was quite happy after hearing what Sister-in-law Wei Hong had said.
Wenze and his friends have suffered so much. If they were to have a loving father and a happy family, it would be an injustice.
"Sister-in-law, I heard that the two sons of the Yang family are not very capable and can hardly keep up with their father's resources."
This is what Gu Ye told her when Commander Yang went to meet his relatives last time.
"Well, both of Yang's sons graduated from high school. Their physical condition is average, and they are unwilling to endure hardship. One works in logistics, and the other works in logistics at the military hospital. After so many years, with Aunt Yang pulling strings, the two brothers have only managed to become minor officials."
The Yang brothers seemed to be cursed; every now and then, some accident would occur, and every time they were about to be promoted, a mistake would happen.
Because of this, Aunt Yang even secretly went to a fortune teller to see if the two brothers had broken any taboos.
When Commander Yang found out about this, he was furious, and only then did Aunt Yang calm down. In those years, no one dared to get involved in such matters; they were truly desperate.
"Sister-in-law, what does the Yang family's youngest daughter look like?"
Bonnie was quite curious. Wenze was good-looking, resembling Commander Yang by a large margin. Aunt Yang, whom she had just seen, was also quite attractive.
"Yang Xue is quite pretty, she inherited the best features from her parents, otherwise, how could she be so arrogant?"
Zhou Weihong knew that Yang Xue had high standards and looked down on ordinary people, but had her eye on the commander's youngest son.
Bonnie felt that this family would have many stories to tell in the future, so she would keep an eye on them. In case anything went wrong, she could at least tip them off.
Bonnie chatted with Sister-in-law Wei Hong all morning, and Sister-in-law Wei Hong cooked lunch for Bonnie again.
In the afternoon, Bonnie realized it was getting late and she had to go home.
"Wei Hong, this friend of yours looks unfamiliar. Whose new wife is she?"
