Bonnie felt unsettled after seeing the guard off.
"Bonnie, come in. What's wrong? You don't look well."
Sister-in-law Gu opened the door and saw Bao Ni standing there. Her expression was not quite right.
"It's nothing. Gu Ye's bodyguard just came to pick up some clean clothes. He said he had a mission and would be leaving soon. I was feeling a little uneasy, so I wandered over to my sister-in-law's place."
Bonnie felt uneasy because Gu Ye had been busy since they moved to a new place and hadn't been home much in the past month or so.
"Don't worry, your older brother has been busy lately, nothing serious." Aunt Gu pulled Bonnie to look at her new clothes, a dress.
"It's a new item at the department store, they say it came from Shanghai. My sister-in-law dragged me there, and we queued for ages before we finally bought it. Do you like it? Maybe we should go buy one tomorrow too?"
Sister-in-law Gu showed Bao Ni the new clothes to distract her.
The dress is a classic style, well-tailored, and suits the eldest sister-in-law's temperament.
"I won't buy it. This dress suits my sister-in-law very well."
“I’m several years older than you and I can wear it, so why doesn’t it fit you?” Aunt Gu didn’t think that Bao Ni was afraid of spending money; she wasn’t stingy.
"No, sister-in-law, look at my skin. It's so dark from the sun. It hasn't healed much in the past month or so. Wearing this light-colored dress makes me look even darker."
Bonnie doesn't even need to look in a mirror; she can tell what she looks like just by seeing her son, Liu Jiu.
Sanqi has been protected from the sun and hasn't gotten too tanned. It has grown quite a bit in the past month or so.
Liu Jiu didn't pay any attention at all. Morning exercises were okay because there wasn't enough sunlight. At other times, Zheng Jun dragged him around to all sorts of training sessions, which weren't much better than in the south.
When Sister-in-law Gu heard what Bao Ni said, she held up the dress to herself and realized it didn't look good; it made Bao Ni look even darker.
"You don't need to go up mountains or down to the sea this year. Just be careful to protect yourself from the sun and wear a hat when you go out. You have a round face and round eyes, which makes you look younger, but once you get tanned, it won't look the same."
And Liu Jiu, with such short hair and a tan even darker than yours, you'd think he was a little boy.
"You two are both inferior to Sanqi. Look at her, she never forgets to wear a hat."
Sister-in-law Gu always wanted a daughter, but it didn't come true. She only has one daughter, Liu Jiu, who is raised to be more like a boy than a boy.
“You have no idea, the other day Sanqi asked me if I knew anyone who had aloe vera. He wanted a small one so he could grow it himself. When it grows up, he can use it to apply to his face.”
Sister-in-law Gu was overjoyed. She thought it would be so nice if it were Liu Jiu, who knew how to take care of herself.
"Hehe... I was wondering where Sanqi got an aloe vera plant and put it in her room."
Bonnie had no choice; her two children had very different personalities.
Gu Ye said that the children can do whatever they want, and they won't interfere too much.
Bonnie had also had that experience, and she didn't want to force her children to do anything. Both of her children are quite self-disciplined, so she doesn't have to worry about them.
Bonnie chatted with Sister-in-law Gu for a long time and felt much better, so she decided to go home. The children would be home soon.
Bonnie ran into her two children downstairs, and the three of them went upstairs together.
"Mom, will those people upstairs finally shut up? If they cause any more trouble, I'll go and fight them. If you hadn't told us not to go up today, we would have given them a piece of our minds."
Liu Jiu was eager to try. She had been there for over a month without getting into a fight, and she was still quite unaccustomed to it.
"Alright, you kids, stop getting involved. Go wash up and go to bed. Your dad's on a mission, we don't know when he'll be back."
Bonnie patted her daughter on the shoulder; they weren't bandits who would come knocking on the door.
When Liu Jiu and San Qi heard that their father had gone on a mission, they stopped making a fuss, but were a little worried.
When Gu Ye left and returned, it was already ten days later, and school was about to start summer vacation.
"Bonnie, there's a job I'd like to take."
As soon as Gu Ye returned, he left Bao Ni with this message.
"What job? Weren't you on a mission?"
Bonnie knew that it wasn't easy for military dependents to find jobs.
"I came back yesterday. I had a lot of things to do, so I didn't tell you because it was too late. The political commissar told me today that when I registered you, I mentioned that I wanted to find a job that involved managing files."
"The school's library is reopening, and there are two job openings. You need at least a junior high school education, which you're a perfect fit for."
When Gu Ye heard this, he thought it was perfect for his wife, so he asked her to stay and tell her when he got back.
"The school library sounds great, and there are winter and summer vacations, I'll go." Bonnie thought the job was good; there wasn't much social interaction, and she would be in contact with students the most, plus there were winter and summer vacations.
"I'll make a phone call and tell the political commissar that it's urgent."
When Gu Ye saw that Bao Ni liked it, he quickly made a phone call and finalized the deal.
"Alright, tomorrow you take your graduation certificate to the school to complete the formalities, and then you can start working."
Gu Ye hung up the phone and reported the good news.
"Okay, I got it. How about you? Did you get hurt on your trip out?"
Bonnie was a little worried, so she touched it and thankfully, there was no injury.
"Wife, what are you doing touching me in broad daylight? I've been away for more than ten days, I'm very sensitive."
After Gu Ye finished speaking, Bao Ni slapped him hard, saying, "Why is this guy like this?"
After the two cuddled for a while, Bonnie told them about what happened upstairs; she had a fight with Commander Hao's wife.
"Don't worry about him. Commander Hao is over fifty and will have to retire in a couple of years. He's just trying to keep a low profile and pave the way for his two sons in the end."
