Chapter 31 First Meeting with the Gu Family

In the study, Grandpa Gu and the others were also chatting.

"Gu Ye, when you see your father tomorrow, you need to control your temper. You're not a twelve-year-old child anymore. There are many things that are no longer appropriate to do now, do you understand?"

Grandpa Gu also resented his eldest son for being unambitious and unable to control his desires. He had ruined his promising future and damaged the relationship between father and son.

Gu Ye's hatred for his father was open and explicit, manifesting in direct confrontation. Gu Ze, on the other hand, harbored resentment in his heart; the fact that his position as the top leader had remained unchanged for so many years was not entirely unfounded, but rather a result of Gu Ze's machinations.

However, Grandpa Gu couldn't control him anymore. Gu Ze was outstanding, had some connections with high-ranking officials, and also had the influence and connections left by his mother. Gu Ze had already grown up.

The Gu family often needs Gu Ze to look after them.

He's old, and he understands many things better now. Gu Ze goes without saying, and Gu Ye is also doing very well in the navy. He used to fight tooth and nail, accumulating countless military merits. If he weren't so young, he would have been promoted long ago. Besides, he even saved the fleet commander.

The eldest brother still can't see reality, thinking that he is the boss and has the final say. How foolish!

Gu Ye understood his grandfather's meaning: family scandals should not be aired in public, especially since this was a military compound in Kyoto, where too many eyes were watching.

Even if he didn't care about himself, he had to consider his elder brother and couldn't bring shame upon him. That's why he didn't expose what Gu Xiangdong had done. You can't kill a rat without harming the jade bottle!

"I know. As long as he doesn't bother me, we'll be fine. Grandpa also told them to be especially careful not to mess with Bonnie, because she has a bad temper."

Gu Ye gave a heads-up: if anything goes wrong, don't blame him for not notifying you beforehand.

"You have a bad temper yourself, but you're blaming it on Bonnie. That girl looks like she has a good temper."

Grandpa Gu was happy to see the chubby Bonnie, and he was in a good mood. He even had a smile on his face.

Gu Ye was speechless; his daughter Bao Ni's appearance was too deceptive.

It was getting late, so Grandpa Gu told them to go home and rest, and that they could talk about it tomorrow.

Brother Gu and his family of three went back, and they invited Bao Ni and the others to come over to play tomorrow.

Gu Ye and Bao Ni returned to their room without saying anything more, deciding to go to sleep first and talk to each other after they had rested.

With no worries about what was coming, Bonnie slept soundly. Meanwhile, Gu Ye, listening to Bonnie's familiar breathing, also slowly drifted off to sleep.

The second day was a day off, and no one went to work.

Gu Ye and Bao Ni didn't go out. He knew that Gu Xiangdong's family would definitely come today, and they would meet sooner or later. He wasn't the type to run away; the sooner they met, the sooner they could resolve the situation.

After breakfast, Uncle Gu's family arrived first, followed by Brother Gu's family of three.

Uncle Gu hadn't seen Gu Ye for several years. They greeted each other, but their relationship wasn't that deep, and they spoke politely to each other.

Gu Ye was very satisfied. That's how it was. Everyone maintained a polite distance and kept to themselves.

What happens within the Gu family is a private matter, but to the outside world, the Gu family as a whole is not to be underestimated by ordinary people.

It was almost noon when Gu Xiangdong and his family of five finally arrived late.

Gu Ye was talking to his older brother. When he saw them come in, he didn't get up or greet them.

Bonnie didn't move, but glanced at the legendary Xu Fang out of the corner of her eye; she seemed a bit like a delicate flower.

Gu Xiangdong was about to get angry when he saw that Gu Ye hadn't greeted him, but Xu Fang pulled his hand, so he kept quiet and swallowed his words.

Bonnie saw this and thought it was kind of interesting.

It was almost noon, and Grandma Gu, Aunt Gu, and Sister Wang were busy preparing lunch in the kitchen.

Xu Fang whispered something to Gu Xiangdong, then turned and went into the kitchen to help. She was known as a virtuous daughter-in-law.

After finding out she was pregnant, Sister-in-law Gu sat on the sofa without moving. Gu Feng's wife held their daughter, who was almost three years old, in her arms. Perhaps because she wasn't feeling well, Bao Ni hadn't seen her get out of bed or move around.

Bonnie didn't care about that. Anyway, she couldn't cook and wouldn't go into the kitchen to help. She was having a lot of fun with Gu Xuanyu.

Grandpa Gu and Uncle Gu were playing chess and drinking tea over there, while Bao Ni and the other women were sitting on the sofa, each chatting about their own things.

"Second sister-in-law, eldest sister-in-law is pregnant and can't go into the kitchen. Sister-in-law Jing wants to see Panpan. You have nothing to do, so why don't you go to the kitchen to help?" Gu Lan asked provocatively as she watched Gu Xuanyu and Bao Ni having fun.

"Ah! Comrade Gu Ye is worried about me. He's afraid that cooking will be too hard for me and that I might hurt myself. He's the one who does all the cooking at home. I've never cooked before. Why don't you go ask your second brother to help in the kitchen? I can't do anything about it."

Bonnie replied with a smile.

Seeing Gu Lan sulking like an angry toad, yet not daring to provoke Gu Ye, Bao Ni felt happy!

Aunt Gu across from her stared at Bao Ni with disbelief. What had she just heard?

It's hard to imagine Gu Ye cooking!

Feeling bored, Bonnie invited Sister-in-law Gu and Gu Xuanyu to their room to play.

Bonnie didn't know the other people sitting in the living room and didn't want to talk to them.

Entering Bonnie's room, Sister-in-law Gu couldn't wait to ask, "Gu Ye really can cook? You're not just fooling Gu Lan, are you?"

“She’s really good at cooking. Why would I need to fool her?” Bonnie said honestly. She wasn’t afraid of people knowing she couldn’t cook; it wasn’t anything shameful.

"Sister-in-law, here are some dried wild fruits, they're sweet and sour, would you like to try them?" Bonnie brought a lot of local specialties with her when she came, but she hadn't taken them out yet. She was still considering whether or not to share them with them.
