With so many people, the expenses are too high, and there's no food supply for the daughter-in-law and children.
"Is your older brother home? You could go and see if he can do the chores around my house?"
Bonnie also needs to go to the neighborhood committee to make arrangements, because she will need to go through the neighborhood committee to rent out the house in the future.
"I'm at home. Where do you live? I live in this alley, not far away."
Seeing only hope, the older sister quickly chimed in.
“The courtyard in front isn’t far. Sister, how do I get to the neighborhood committee? I need to go and say hello. I’ll be a regular visitor, so I’ll know where it is.”
The older sister enthusiastically gave them directions, and Bonnie told them to come over later while she went to the neighborhood committee first.
Bonnie went to the neighborhood committee, greeted them, and went home without staying long.
From a distance, I could see two people standing in front of her house. As I got closer, I recognized them as the older woman from earlier.
"Little sister, you're back. This is your older brother, surnamed Wang."
"Hello, Brother Wang, let's go in and take a look."
Bonnie called out, and Liu Jiu opened the door.
"Mom, did you find someone?" Liu Jiu saw the stranger outside the door. He must be the house repairman her mother was talking about.
"Okay, found it. Go get to work."
Bonnie showed Brother Wang her house and shared her thoughts.
“It’s not complicated, but will you prepare the materials yourselves, or will I do it?” Brother Wang’s hands were calloused, clearly indicating that he was a hard worker.
"You handle the preparations, I don't have time. Have the house inspected, replace any broken tiles. Four rooms need alterations. How long will this work take, and how much will it cost?"
After thinking for a while, Brother Wang gave Bonnie a quote, excluding the cost of materials.
Put together, it's one yuan per person per day, and the three of them would need five or six days.
Bonnie thought it was a good idea and made an appointment with Brother Wang to have him order the materials so they could start working tomorrow.
Bonnie paid for the materials, and Brother Wang wrote a receipt. The matter was settled.
Bonnie had just inquired at the neighborhood committee and found out about this family. It matched what she had heard, otherwise she wouldn't have given them the money so readily.
I've finished my business, I'll go home now and come back tomorrow.
