Chapter 315 What is the Ultimate Quality?

Several days have passed since the joyful barbecue party, and Bonnie's autumn vegetables have already sprouted!

Since Gu Xuanyu started his vacation, Bao Ni no longer needs to worry about the children. Their eldest brother takes them to parks, libraries, and museums, keeping their schedules very full every day.

With nothing to worry about, Bonnie enjoys a quiet holiday all by herself.

"Ta-da..."

Bonnie heard the knocking and wondered who would come at this hour.

"Second Brother? What brings you here?"

Bonnie was surprised to find her second brother, Lin Tao, standing in front of the door.

"Just got back from a mission, came to see you."

Lin Tao returned yesterday. As soon as he got to the office, he was told that his parents from his hometown had called him. Not knowing what had happened, he quickly called back, only to be scolded by his mother.

He never expected that his wife wouldn't listen to him, but instead went to find Bao Ni herself and complained to his mother. As a result, he got a good scolding.

“Bonnie, your second sister-in-law came to see you before. She was wrong, and I apologize on her behalf.”

Lin Tao felt quite embarrassed. He hadn't done anything for Bao Ni all these years, and he felt ashamed.

Bonnie understood; her mother had caused trouble for her second brother, otherwise he wouldn't have known.

"Second brother, actually, this matter is, how should I put it, a matter of stance."

Like my sister-in-law before, she used to be fine, with no major problems. The reason so many things happened later was because of a change in her mindset.

"Now that you and Lin Bo have a way out, she feels she's been taken advantage of. I helped you and Lin Bo, but not my older brother, and she's resentful. She thinks that if she makes a scene, I'll give in for our parents' sake."

Instead of talking about Hao Mei, Bonnie brought up her former sister-in-law.

Although Lin Tao wasn't home, he knew the general outline of what had happened. His older brother's mindset had become unbalanced, so he hadn't been able to restrain him. Later, when he wanted to restrain him, he had lost the ability to do so.

“Baoni, I understand. Your second sister-in-law is also feeling resentful. She doesn’t understand why you’re helping Brother Gu take care of his child but not your own nephew.”

Lin Tao only gradually learned after getting married that his father-in-law's family was extremely sexist.

I knew before that Hao Mei's father was the head of the family, her mother didn't manage things, and her father was biased. But I didn't know the extent of his favoritism.

"Second brother, to be honest, I don't know what kind of personality your sister-in-law has. We've only met a few times and haven't had much contact with each other alone."

We used to live far apart and our lives didn't overlap; we were just relatives in our parents' eyes. Most of the things we talked about were relayed through our parents; they were the connecting link between us.

My second sister-in-law asked me to help take care of her child this time, but I refused outright. It's not that I'm heartless. Whether we're siblings or sisters, once we've started our own families, the relationship naturally changes.

It's fine for relatives and friends to help each other, but this should only be done in emergencies. It's normal to lend a hand, and no one can say that they will never ask for help in their life.

However, I cannot agree with the idea that it is only natural for an aunt to take care of her nephew, as my second sister-in-law does.

Children are the responsibility of their parents. Others can help as a favor, or not as their right. Even with the child's grandparents, I have no obligation to help look after the child.

Lin Tao didn't really understand what Bonnie was saying. In his life, it was almost a rule that parents would help take care of their children; every family did it this way.

"Bonnie, I might not understand what you're saying. Don't most families rely on grandparents to help take care of the children?"

Bonnie knows that even decades later, many people, especially daughters-in-law, will still think that it is only natural for grandparents to take care of their grandchildren, because they are your family's offspring!

"Second brother, our parents raised us and did their best to give us a good life; that's their responsibility. Now, it's their duty to take care of our grandparents."

No one stipulates that it is the responsibility and obligation of children to take care of their grandchildren. Logically speaking, parents are not young anymore and should be enjoying their retirement; we all have a responsibility to take care of them.

Lin Tao heard a new perspective today. Hao Mei had previously mentioned that she had some reservations about the fact that the child's grandparents couldn't help take care of the child.

"My second brother is not as good as Bao Ni. I used to think that if our parents could help us take care of the children, we could have an easier time."

After hearing what you said today, I suddenly realized that I haven't done anything for my parents.

When Bonnie heard what her second brother said, she quickly interrupted him. She wasn't trying to lecture him; how to be filial to one's parents was a personal matter, and she couldn't interfere.

"Second brother, I don't mean anything by saying this. It's just the way things are in this country. I'm not trying to argue about right or wrong. I'm just expressing my opinion."

As for my second sister-in-law, she's not some terrible relative. I refused her advances, and she didn't pester me or do anything irrational.

Otherwise, when you come back, your wife might not be unharmed; you know you have the power to do that.

Can parents and siblings truly be completely honest with each other? It's difficult, especially in a society based on personal relationships. Which family doesn't live in a haphazard way, as long as the bottom line isn't crossed?

Bonnie felt that when her second sister-in-law asked her to look after the child, and she refused, she had made her stance clear.

Otherwise, the noise and commotion will become common knowledge and become fodder for gossip.

Bonnie felt it was unnecessary.

Just like she said, Hao Mei was rejected and left on her own. She didn't make a big deal out of it or make a big scene that everyone would know about, which would be very embarrassing. Otherwise, she wouldn't have let it go so easily.
