Bonnie and her two friends were eating, drinking, and chatting upstairs, having a very pleasant time, while downstairs, everyone was sitting separately, not knowing what to say, and the atmosphere was strange.
"Dinner's almost ready, everyone get ready to eat," Aunt Gu called out from the kitchen doorway to the living room.
Upstairs, Bonnie and Sister-in-law Gu also felt it was about time, so they led Gu Xuanyu, who was still struggling with the squid strips, downstairs.
"Gu Xuanyu, what are you eating? Give me some, I want some too." As soon as she walked down the stairs, Bonnie heard this impolite remark.
"No, this was given to me by my second aunt." Xuan Yu really liked the taste of dried squid and didn't want to share it with his uncle.
"You dare not give it to me? I'm your uncle, how dare you disrespect your elders? I'll beat you up!" With that, he charged at Gu Xuanyu.
Bonnie hadn't seen such an arrogant child in a long time. She shielded Gu Dasao and Gu Xuanyu behind her, picked up the boy who was rushing towards her, and threw him to the ground.
"Ah...you dare to throw me, I'll beat you to death, Mom, she bullied me." The boy, who was only a little over ten years old, sat on the ground kicking his legs and crying loudly, calling for his mother and saying harsh words.
"Xiao Bei, what's wrong? Why are you crying?" Xu Fang heard her son crying in the kitchen and ran out while asking.
"Mom, it's her! She threw me on the ground! It hurts so much! Help me hit her!" The boy on the ground cried and complained to his mother, pointing at Bonnie.
"Pull your hand back and point it at me again, or I'll break your hand!" This was the first time anyone had ever dared to point a finger at Bonnie like that; their courage was commendable!
“Gu Ye’s wife, no matter what, Gu Bei is still your brother-in-law. He’s so young. If he does something wrong, you can criticize him, but you shouldn’t throw him on the ground. It would be bad if he got hurt. Don’t you think so?” Although Xu Fang was very angry, she put on the air of a magnanimous elder and lectured Bao Ni.
"Is he still a child? Is a kid in his teens still a child? I'm helping to educate him now so he won't have to be educated by others when he goes out into society, don't you think?" Bonnie asked back, mimicking her tone, her innocent big eyes wide open.
In the living room, the rest of the Gu family listened to Bonnie's words and looked at her expression without realizing it. They never expected that Bonnie, who looked so soft and cute, would be so capable when it came to doing things.
"Alright, stop talking and let's eat. Gu Bei, stand up. You're such a big kid, why are you still sitting on the ground kicking your legs?" Grandpa Gu spoke up, and no matter how unhappy the others were, they had to hold back and didn't dare to say anything.
"How stingy! It's just a piece of dried fish. We could just share it." Gu Lan muttered to herself, her voice quite loud.
"Baby's things, she can give them to whomever she wants, do you have a problem with that?" Gu Ye's cold words sent a chill down Gu Lan's spine. She quietly entered the restaurant, not daring to utter a sound.
Gu Ye took Bao Ni's hand and entered the restaurant, where they sat down and waited for the meal to be served.
Sister-in-law Gu patted her chest with lingering fear. She had been startled just now. If Gu Bei had really rushed over, she and Xuan Yu might have been injured. She was still scared!
Brother Gu picked up Xuan Yu, his expression unchanged, but his eyes turned cold.
Grandpa Gu sat in the main seat, and Grandma Gu sat down next to him. Gu Xiangdong sat on the other side of Grandpa Gu. After everyone was seated, Grandpa Gu said, "Let's eat." Everyone started putting food into their bowls. Apart from the sound of chewing, no one spoke at the table. It was very quiet.
Bonnie ignored everyone else's reactions and focused on filling her stomach first.
The meal was eaten in a rush, and it was finished in no time.
"Gu Ye's wife, could you help clear the table after dinner? Aunt Wang can't manage all that by herself," Xu Fang said kindly to Bao Ni, like a friendly elder.
Upon hearing this, Gu Ye suddenly stood up. Just as he was about to speak, Bao Ni pulled his hand and stopped him.
"Are you talking to me?" Bonnie asked with a smile, her tone flat.
"If Aunt Xu isn't talking to you, who is she talking to? What are you pretending to be stupid for? No matter what, Aunt Xu is your elder. How can you be so ill-mannered? What kind of upbringing did your parents give you? A fisherman is a fisherman, with no manners at all. How could my second brother marry you?" Perhaps because she had been holding back for too long, Gu Lan launched into a tirade without any restraint.
"Gu Lan, shut up! How dare you talk like that!" Gu Ye clenched his fists, his eyes bloodshot and turning red as if he had thought of something.
Bonnie knew that Gu Ye was losing control of himself, so she reached out and hugged his waist, gently saying, "Gu Ye, Gu Ye, relax, I'm here." Bonnie knew that this was a psychological trauma, like a post-traumatic stress disorder, and that it would flare up when that spot was touched.
Gu Ze was also very nervous; he hadn't seen Gu Ye like this in a long time. However, he knew he couldn't go over; he could only watch quietly.
Gu Ye sensed Bonnie's worry, closed his eyes, cleared his mind, and focused only on Bonnie's smiling face.
The room was quiet; everyone watched Gu Ye's reaction as if holding their breath. They watched him gradually calm down from the brink of exploding and return to normal.
Lin Baoni, this seemingly soft and cute woman, left a deep impression on the Gu family.
After calming Gu Ye down, Lin Baoni turned around and looked at Gu Lan opposite her. She was still smiling, but her eyes had become very sharp.
Bonnie walked towards Gu Lan step by step without saying a word, still smiling at her, until she stood in front of Gu Lan.
“Fishermen, what’s wrong with fishermen? Countless fishermen in our country guard the border. When they encounter enemy ships at sea, they dare to ram them with their fishing boats. You, a good-for-nothing who does nothing but sit around and wait to die, what right do you have to look down on fishermen?” Bonnie’s aura was strong, and she spoke with force and conviction.
Gu Lan, sitting opposite her, swallowed hard, her eyes darting around, not daring to look at Bao Ni. Her arrogant demeanor from before had completely vanished.
Grandma Gu was about to say something when Grandpa Gu grabbed her arm and stopped the others with a look.
"You dare talk to me about manners? You insulted your new sister-in-law with no respect. Is this your manners? You've been a traitor for over a decade. Is this your manners?"
"Slap!" Bonnie reached out and slapped Gu Lan across the face. Gu Lan's face swelled up instantly, leaving five bright red finger marks.
“You can’t talk about my parents like that. This is your punishment.” How could Bonnie allow Gu Lan to disrespect her parents?
"Wah..." Gu Lan covered her face, looked at Bonnie in disbelief, and burst into tears.
Everyone else was stunned. They hadn't expected Lin Baoni to dare to hit Gu Lan, and with such force at that. They were all caught off guard.
Bao Ni ignored Gu Lan's wailing and took her revenge on the spot.
Bonnie turned and walked towards Gu Ye. The two smiled at each other. Bonnie looked up at Xu Fang, who was standing on the other side of the table, and smiled.
Looking at Lin Baoni's smiling face, Xu Fang felt a chill run down her spine, sensing that Lin was up to something.
