Chapter 325 Matters Before and After Death

After Grandpa Gu finished explaining the main things, he was tired and leaned back on the sofa to rest with his eyes closed, while Grandma Gu stayed by his side.

Uncle Gu was the most distressed, not because of anything else, but because the old man wouldn't allow a grand funeral, which made him extremely anxious.

He had planned to use the upcoming funeral of the old man to make some connections.

Although the old man had been retired for many years, he still had many subordinates or descendants of old comrades-in-arms with whom he had good relationships, and now he had nothing left.

"Gu Ze, if you have already taken office when I pass away, do not rush back for the funeral. Do not delay your work. Filial piety is not about superficial formalities."

As if suddenly remembering something, the old man opened his eyes and gave some instructions.

"Gu Ye, after I die, keep everything simple. If anyone tries to cause trouble, deal with them. I'll write you a letter of authorization later."

The old man then gave Gu Ye some instructions, saying that his son and wife sometimes couldn't think straight. Especially his wife, who was easily swayed by a few unfilial children and made foolish decisions.

"I understand, Grandpa. I can definitely do it."

After Gu Ye finished speaking, he looked around again. They must all be disappointed now; their little schemes had been seen through.

"Dad, what's wrong with you..."

Uncle Gu was thinking that when the old man passed away, he would pretend to comply but secretly defy him. He didn't expect that this path would also be blocked.

"You don't need to scheme anymore, it's useless. I don't have much of my network left, you've used it all up, don't you even realize that?"

Gu Feng, Gu Xiaogu, and Gu Sanshu all lowered their heads. They had often used the old man's name to do things for themselves, but they never expected that the old man knew everything.

Gu Ye curled his lip, "A bunch of parasites."

Gu Xiaogu came here hoping to ask the old man to intercede for her and get Gu Ze to help her, but now it seems there's no hope.

After talking for a while, it was time for lunch, and the staff had already arrived.

Grandpa Gu paid for four tables of food. He and his wife sat at one table with their children, and Gu Ze was asked to sit with them.

Gu Feng and Gu Ye were separated into male and female groups at one table each, while the remaining children sat together.

"Xuanyu, come here and sit with your second uncle."

Gu Ye called Gu Xuanyu over; he was a college student now, practically an adult.

At the children's table, Gu Panpan was the oldest, but she had been in poor health since childhood, was introverted, and didn't like to talk.

Gu Xuanyi and Liu Jiu sat down with Sanqi and Gu Xuanhao, the two of them sandwiching the two younger ones in the middle so they could help them pick up food.

Bonnie sat next to Sister-in-law Gu. She didn't want to exchange pleasantries; she just wanted to eat her fill before leaving the table.

Everyone at Grandpa Gu's table was eating; no one was talking. They had already said everything they needed to say.

At Gu Ye's table, he sat there with a cold face, and no one spoke; everyone just kept their heads down and ate.

The kids at the table were doing well; they were all putting food in their bowls. Such a lavish lunch would be gone in no time if they didn't eat it.

There were quite a few people at Bonnie's table, but they didn't eat very quickly. Only Bonnie seemed to be enjoying her meal, after all, the cooking was really good.

"Sister Gu Lan, I heard you moved to a new house?"

Gu Mei looked at Gu Lan. They grew up together, but now their circumstances were worlds apart.

"Yes, we moved here during the summer vacation."

After some consideration, Gu Lan and her husband decided to move into the house her mother had left her.

It's a detached house with three main rooms and a side room. It's also close to her workplace, and the child has enough space to have their own room.

Because they now have a bigger house, her mother-in-law wanted to lend their old house to her brother-in-law, but she refused.

If she lives here for too long, the house might end up belonging to someone else. She has three children, and there won't be enough to go around in the future.

A 30-square-meter apartment, if rented out, can bring in a few yuan in rent per month, several tens of yuan per year. There are many better ways to do this.

Her mother-in-law wasn't happy about it, but so what? It's her own house, she can do whatever she wants.

"Sister Gu Lan, could I borrow your old house for a while? It's not convenient for me to stay at my parents' place all the time."

Gu Mei doesn't have a job, so she doesn't care where she lives. She lives alone to avoid being mistreated.

"You're too late. My house is already rented out, and I've already collected the rent."

Gu Lan had just turned down her in-laws who wanted to take advantage of her, and now her own family was doing the same.

"Really? That's unfortunate. I was just hoping that Sister Gu Lan could lend me a hand."

Gu Mei looked dejected and muttered to herself.

"You really have no sense. Gu Lan isn't your biological sister. She's not going to let you live in her house for free."

Gu Bei's wife, always eager for a good show, joined in the commotion.

"Why isn't she my own sister? Don't go looking for trouble. You have no respect for your elders."

Since returning to the city, Gu Mei has had nowhere to live. In fact, she just doesn't want to spend money to rent a place herself, thinking that she can occupy as much space as possible.

"We weren't born of the same mother, so why are you so close? Don't you even know what other people do and what you do?"

You don't know until you compare; the difference is startling. Different mothers produce different children; the superiority or inferiority is immediately apparent.

Gu Bei's wife's knife was almost aimed directly at Xu Fang's heart.

"You troublemaker, you can't keep quiet at home, and you're stirring up trouble outside too."

Gu Mei was furious with Qian Lanlan. Even though what she said was true, it was none of her business to talk back.

"Once you've done it, don't be afraid of what people will say. I'm just stating the facts!"

Qian Lanlan stopped eating; she wasn't afraid of making things worse. If she was in trouble, no one else would be.

"Are you even speaking human language? You're slandering your elders. Is this how your family taught you?"

Gu Mei was also angry. They were both children of the Gu family, but she had the worst life. Why was she treated this way?
