Sanqi and a few others are quite capable. After some research, they figured out how pickled vegetables work.
A lot of sauerkraut needs to be pickled; some is kept in the family compound, and some is kept in the courtyard house.
The courtyard house has a fairly large cellar, which is very well built, with walls made of blue bricks and a floor paved with stone slabs. The most impressive thing is that there are steps leading to the cellar, which is very convenient.
Bonnie had already prepared everything and paid for a shelf. When the time comes, putting the cabbage on the shelf will keep it fresher and allow it to last all winter.
After cleaning the two large vats and drying them, we moved them into the cellar. At this temperature, the vegetables wouldn't spoil.
Winters in the north are very long, and greenhouse vegetables are not yet widespread at this time, so there are really not many vegetables available to eat.
Bonnie also bought potatoes, squash, dried chili peppers, vermicelli, garlic... some autumn vegetables that can be stored from nearby villages, which she will transport back during her break.
Bonnie had already made up her mind; she would start preparing the day after tomorrow when she had a day off.
"I really can't rest the day after tomorrow, the whole brigade has to be assessed."
Gu Ye looked at Bao Ni, his heart filled with guilt.
He knew that his wife wouldn't have asked him specifically if it wasn't truly necessary.
"There's nothing I can do about it. I'll figure it out myself."
Bonnie didn't think much of it, but Gu Ye's schedule was really hard to coordinate.
"Wife, I'm sorry!"
"Why bring this up? I already thought about these things when I decided to marry you."
You're a soldier, you're there to do serious business, not to go out and fool around.
Just remember the good things I did for you, and make it up to me in the future. There's no need to feel guilty.
A couple living together should just support and understand each other; there's no need to feel guilty.
When two people form a family, they should try to keep the atmosphere as relaxed as possible; there's no need for heavy psychological burdens.
"Wife, you're so good to me. I... I'll take good care of you, okay?"
Gu Ye's hand was fidgeting, and Bao Ni slapped it. He wanted it, but he was making excuses.
The saying "Thirty is like a wolf, forty is like a tiger" is self-explanatory.
The next day, Bonnie entered the library in a cheerful mood and bumped into the flower right in front of her.
"Oh, our Comrade Lin looks radiant. Looks like he had a good night last night."
Bonnie hates people who make jokes without any boundaries or sense.
"Comrade Lan Hua, if you're sexually frustrated, go home and find your man. If you need to see a urologist, go see a urologist. You have to get treatment if you're sick. It's not good to avoid seeing a doctor, is it?"
Bonnie finds this orchid incredibly annoying. It keeps popping up all the time, like a toad on your foot—it doesn't bite, but it's still irritating.
Bonnie doesn't tolerate him jumping around a bit in public, though.
"Lin Baoni, what nonsense are you talking about? My man is perfectly healthy, he has no illness."
Orchid shouted loudly, "If this gets out, how will her man face people?"
"Why are you being so sarcastic if you're not sick? Watch your mouth in the future, don't say whatever comes to mind."
I'm not one to fuss over small things, but when it comes to important matters, I won't just talk the talk.
Bonnie waved her fist and gestured twice in front of Orchid.
"You, you still dare to hit someone?"
"Whether you dare or not, you can try."
Bonnie ignored her and went into her classroom.
Orchid looked at the quiet corridor and saw everyone coming out to see if she had been bullied.
The other three people who heard the conversation between the two did not come out. Comrade Lan was too annoying and didn't know what was good for her, so no one wanted to talk to her.
Bonnie was enjoying her work, and her good mood was not affected by a flea.
After getting off work in the evening, Bonnie didn't go home. Instead, she went to a scrap metal recycling station. She had previously ordered a tricycle from them, which they had modified themselves.
With the tricycle, it will be much more convenient to transport vegetables back and forth. We also plan to raise chickens next year.
Bonnie rode her tricycle into the residential compound, attracting many onlookers and becoming a beautiful sight.
"Hey, Xiaolin, did you buy this?"
The old lady on the first floor, not being shy, came over to touch it and found it was indeed quite nice, with three wheels.
"Yeah, it's brand new, and it's more expensive than a Golden Deer car!"
Bonnie wasn't lying; the car cost over a hundred dollars.
Bonnie rode her bike to the bike shed and locked it; it was her private property.
Bonnie went upstairs, and the people downstairs went wild!
"The Gu family really doesn't know how to manage money. Buying such a car and spending so much money, what a waste!"
"How stingy! They even locked it up, as if they're afraid someone will ride it!"
"You're so stingy. Why did you lock your bicycle too? Just leave it there for everyone to ride."
"Who says otherwise? It's easy for you to talk when you're not the one suffering."
...
Bonnie's tricycle also sparked an argument that almost escalated into a fight.
"Mom, you bought a tricycle?"
As soon as Liu Jiu entered the door, she asked her mother for confirmation.
How did you know?
"It's causing a commotion downstairs because of your tricycle."
I walked in on the seventh night of the third lunar month and overheard a couple of things.
"It's all because we're bored and have nothing better to do. I've washed the vegetables, hurry up and cook them, I'm starving."
Bonnie told the children to cook and set the table, as they were all hungry.
On their day off, everyone in the family was there except for Gu Ye; even Gu Xuanyu came back.
“We’ll split up. Xuanyu, you take Sanqi and Xuanyi to the courtyard house and boil some water. We’ll blanch the vegetables later.”
Liu Jiu and I went to a nearby village to bring back the vegetables we bought.
If Gu Ye were home, he could lend a car, but now that the man is out of the question, you'll have to figure it out yourself.
"Second Aunt, let me go with you."
