When Gu Ye got home, Bao Ni and the others had already finished eating.
"Another urgent mission? Have you eaten?"
When Gu Ye left in the morning, he said he would be off work at the usual time that evening.
"No, I was held up by other things. I'll eat first and talk to you later."
Gu Ye was hungry and didn't care about anything else.
Bonnie brought out the leftover food, which was still warm in the pot.
Gu Ye eats quickly but elegantly, which is what Bonnie likes to see most.
"You like looking at me so much, am I pretty?"
"Beautiful, exceptionally beautiful."
Bonnie rested her chin on her hand and answered earnestly.
Gu Ye smiled, beaming with delight.
"Sigh, having parents who have a good relationship can also be quite troublesome."
Sanqi and Xuanyi went to the kitchen to get a drink of water and overheard their parents whispering sweet nothings to each other.
"Gu Xuanming, don't you know the saying 'Don't listen to what is improper'?"
Bonnie has good hearing and heard her son's murmurs.
"I want a drink of water, but you can't just cover your ears before coming over."
Sanqi felt wronged; his mother was being unreasonable.
"You can't come over with your ears covered. You can turn around and leave instead of commenting."
Bonnie wasn't convinced by his twisted logic; this kid had a whole bunch of reasons.
The mother and daughter fought back and forth, but in the end, Sanqi was defeated. She was not as strong as her mother, nor was she as senior as her mother. In the end, Gu Ye and Bao Ni finished their meal and went back to their room, leaving poor Sanqi to clean up the kitchen.
"Sanqi, what can I say to you? If you had just said less, none of this would have happened."
Xuan Yi helped San Qi pack up, also puzzled by his younger brother's sharp tongue.
“Brother Xuanyi, you only saw the performance. Even if I didn’t say that, my mom would have other ways to make me stay and clean up the mess.”
Sanqi looked at Xuanyi. The child was too young and didn't understand the dangers of society, especially since he didn't fully understand what kind of mother his second aunt was. Sigh...
Bonnie had no idea that her son was complaining about her in the kitchen; she was more interested in why her husband was late and what had gotten into him.
"Commander Yang came to my door, and I was just one step away from leaving."
Gu Ye looked at Bao Ni, who seemed to be waiting to hear gossip, and realized she was treating him like a storyteller.
"Commander Yang, ah, Wenze's cheap father."
Gu Ye found his wife's words quite interesting. Wasn't this a bargain for the old man?
"What does he want from you? Does he want you to plead with Brother Wenze to treat his son's illness?"
"Wife, you're so smart, you know everything."
Gu Ye praised Bao Ni with a grin, saying she was really smart.
"You agreed? He's dreaming! Who is his son? He's Wenze's enemy, a blood feud! It's already good enough if we don't set off a few firecrackers to celebrate, let alone help him get medical treatment. Has he lost his mind?"
You can't plead for him; that would be too pitiful for Wenze, and you're one of his better friends.
Bonnie was very agitated. She couldn't let Gu Ye speak; it would feel like a betrayal.
"Don't get agitated. I won't plead for them. Others may not know what happened, but I know it all very clearly."
Gu Ye made it clear today that he is on Wen Ze's team.
"Oh my god, this Commander Yang is such a scoundrel."
Bonnie sat up from the bed as she spoke.
Where are you going?
“I need to write to my sister-in-law and also to Staff Officer Deng. This matter needs to be discussed properly.”
Bonnie couldn't wait to put on her shoes and get out of bed; she needed to talk to her sister-in-law.
"Why don't you write it tomorrow when you're at work? It's so cold!"
Gu Ye was also puzzled; why was his wife so impatient?
"You go to sleep first. I can't sleep until I finish writing. There's a fire burning inside me."
Bonnie, wearing a coat, sat down at the table and began writing a letter.
Gu Ye lay in bed, watching his wife's figure as she wrote furiously; it was quite a sight to behold.
The next day, before going to work, Bonnie deliberately took a detour and mailed the two letters.
The letter to Sister-in-law Gu was particularly thick, and it even mentioned some things about the children.
With Gu Ye's approach proving unsuccessful, Commander Yang looked at his weeping wife and his worried daughter-in-law, along with his two bewildered grandsons. He had no choice but to consider other options.
Meanwhile, Cao Wenze and his wife, far to the south, kept receiving calls pleading for their lives on his behalf. These calls came from elders, comrades-in-arms, and even their superiors.
"Wenze, I don't know the specifics of the matter between you and your father, but as a doctor, won't you regret not saving someone who is dying?"
Cao Wenze looked at their dean, wondering how many people had pleaded for leniency this was.
"Dean, perhaps my cultivation is not enough to extend the life of my enemy."
So many people have been pleading for my life lately, I'm honestly sick of it.
Do not advise others to do good if you have never experienced their suffering.
My mother and my sister are two lives lost. Commander Yang may forget them, but I, Cao Wenze, will never forget them.
I told him that even if I leave the military and stop being a doctor, I will not treat his son.
Putting aside the fact of hatred, if his son's illness cannot be cured, they will accuse me of settling personal scores. Why should I get involved in this mess?
I'll just sit here and watch how he suffers divine retribution!
After Cao Wenze finished speaking, he got up and left, regardless of the dean's reaction.
"Old Yang, there's nothing I can do. I've talked to Wenze for ages, but he hasn't shown any sign of softening."
He even said that even after he left the military and stopped practicing medicine, he would not treat your son.
The dean relayed the message, but Dr. Cao refused, and there was nothing he could do.
After hanging up the phone, he was filled with sorrow, realizing that there was a blood feud between the father and son.
Commander Yang hung up the phone helplessly. Lately, he felt powerless.
His eldest son's resentment, his second son's illness, and his daughter-in-law's weeping made him feel that he had never experienced such hardship, not even when he was fighting the Japanese.
He could risk his life against the enemy, but he couldn't bring himself to do that with his family.
Cao Wenze is his son. Whether he acknowledges it or not, that's a fact. It's impossible for him to actually be forced to take off his military uniform and stop being a doctor.
Everyone who was supposed to make an appearance did, and Cao Wenze's attitude was resolute, so there was nothing anyone could do.
"Wenze, don't think too much. Follow your heart and do what you think is right. Don't take other people's words to heart."
They're all just a bunch of people who talk without understanding the situation, including Comrade Deng. You should ignore them.
Whatever you choose, I will support you. Don't make things difficult for yourself.
Cao Wenze hugged his wife tightly; he had been under a lot of pressure lately.
With his wife's support, he felt that he was not fighting alone, but had comrades-in-arms.
A doctor's duty is to save lives and heal the wounded. He had also sworn an oath to do his best to save every life.
However, he really couldn't bring himself to save the man who killed his sister. He was afraid he wouldn't be able to resist taking action and would violate his principles as a doctor.
Cao Wenze hugged his wife, trying to clear his mind. He needed to calm down and rest; he was too tired.
Mental exhaustion is more grueling than physical exhaustion. He's still kind, so he shouldn't be affected!
