Chapter 362 Packages Received One After Another

Bonnie returned to the family compound from the small market and was notified that there was a package for her family.

Bonnie went home to get the certificate and then rode her tricycle to pick up the package.

After showing the proof, the staff brought out three large packages.

"Comrade Lin, everything is here."

"Thank you so much!"

Bonnie loaded the three packages onto the tricycle and waited for it to go home.

Along the way, we encountered many military wives, some we knew and some we didn't. Some were aunts or older women, while others were sisters-in-law or younger sisters.

Bonnie greeted the people she knew, but didn't linger, hurrying home because it was quite cold.

Bonnie made two trips to carry all three packages home, mainly because one of them was too heavy.

Bonnie opened them one by one. The heaviest one came from the island and contained an envelope.

Bonnie opened it and took out several sheets of paper, all of which were folded individually.

Her parents were there; they sent a letter to let her know they were safe and sound, saying everything was fine at home.

Lin Bo and his wife returned from their holiday. Lin Bo went back to his original unit to work. Cao Wenli stayed home to take care of the children, chat with her grandmother, and also gave the four elderly people a physical examination.

Bonnie could tell that her parents were quite satisfied with Lin Bo's wife.

That's true. As people get older, they like to be surrounded by their children and grandchildren. Having a well-behaved younger generation around makes them feel better.

Bonnie's dad said that their island team won the task of distributing production to individual households and will be the leader for a year-long experiment.

There was also a letter from Sister-in-law Yaru and Haiyan. They told each other about their recent situations, and they were all doing well, especially Sister-in-law Yaru. Her eldest son had found a girlfriend, her second son had gone to university, and her youngest son was also doing well in his studies.

Haiyan's two younger brothers, one joined the army and the other followed Brother Lin to grow kelp, are both able to take care of themselves.

Six years have passed, and Haiyan is now twenty-one years old. For the sake of her two younger brothers, she has not considered her own personal life.

This winter, after her two younger brothers settled down, she finally agreed to get married next year.

Haiyan's boyfriend, Baoni, also knows Lin Hai, who grows seaweed with her. Lin Hai was a few years older than Haiyan and was a diver in the army.

He chose her himself, and after waiting for Haiyan for several years, they finally got married.

Bonnie put down the letter, feeling quite happy. She was glad that all her friends were doing well and living good lives.

And Uncle Shen, he's retiring soon. He's in good health, but he really misses you, his little friend, Bonnie.

Bonnie looked at the packages belonging to her parents, Lin Bo, her uncle, Uncle Shen, her sister-in-law Ya Ru, Haiyan, and others. The largest packages belonged to her parents, and they were all dried seafood, with many different kinds and a large quantity.

There was also a large bag of seaweed, which belonged to her older brother, Lin Yu. This surprised Bao Ni; she hadn't expected her brother to have such thoughts about her.

There were two packages in the south, one for my sister-in-law and the other for Sister Zhang and her family.

My sister-in-law's package contained a lot of things, a variety of items, including food and household goods, in many bags.

Zhang's wife and the others also had theirs packaged separately; they were local specialties, mostly seafood and dried fruit.

Bonnie looked at the supplies spread out on the ground and felt very happy. She was just wondering what to give as a New Year's gift, and now she had it.

After sorting and putting things away, her cabinet was full again.

Gu Ye didn't come home that night. He called to say he had a lot of things to do and would be busy for a few days.

Bonnie was already used to it. She wrote her novel for a while, then went to bed on time, since she had to go to Dayang Village tomorrow morning.

Around 9 a.m., Bao Ni and Xu Meifeng met up and went to Dayang Village.

"Oh, Bonnie, come in quickly, I thought you'd be here soon."

It's too cold today, have some water.

The brigade leader's wife was very enthusiastic. Most of the chickens, ducks, and geese her family raised this year were sold to Bao Ni, who was their lucky charm.

Bonnie and the others hadn't been too cold on their way here, and since they needed to get back quickly, they didn't exchange many pleasantries and instead checked their supplies.

"Auntie, you've packed things up nicely, they're very clean. I'll come to you again if I need anything in the future."

Bonnie looked and saw that the feathers of the chicks, ducks, and geese had been plucked clean, and their internal organs had been removed and placed inside.

"Comrade Lin, our brigade's old ox was crushed to death, and we're cleaning it up now. Do you want some beef?"

The captain rushed in from outside and, seeing that Bonnie had already arrived, quickly told her about the cow.

"Hey, which cow is that?"

The brigade leader's wife looked distressed; their brigade didn't have many cows, and they were all precious to them.

"That spotted cow was crushed inside by the collapsed courtyard wall of Old Zhao's house."

"Isn't this all that fuss about distributing land to individual households? Old Zhao, the cowherd, went home to inquire and found out he'd tied his cow to the wall. There was a ditch next to his wall, and the cow slipped in and pulled down the wall."

Although Bonnie felt it was a pity, being able to buy beef was still a good New Year's gift, so she bought more so that her family could eat some too.

"Captain, I need some beef. How much can you sell for? Don't you keep some for the team to eat?"

“We can’t afford such expensive beef. This is village collective property. If we sell the meat, we’ll see if we can raise money to buy a tractor next year.”

The brigade leader is quite concerned about the development of the village; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to organize the raising of so many pigs, as well as the chickens, ducks, and geese from each household.

Bonnie picked out a lot of beef and asked them to cut it into two-pound pieces, as she was preparing it as a gift because she couldn't prepare it at home.

I bought a lot of beef bones to make soup, so the children can drink more soup while they are growing.

I also bought some tripe, and all sorts of other things, totaling about 70 or 80 pounds. I also bought two racks of spare ribs, several dozen pounds of pork, a piece of pork fat, and pig's trotters...

Xu Meifeng was dumbfounded. How much did Sister-in-law Baoni buy? It must have cost several hundred yuan!

"They'll be gone after the New Year, and they won't keep well when the weather gets warmer. Take this opportunity to nourish the children and adults in the family."
