Chapter 368 Lunar New Year's Day

Looking at the coin on the table, Bonnie didn't know what to say.

When Gu Xuanyu and the others got up, Bao Ni had finished wrapping the remaining dumpling filling; it was almost eight o'clock.

On the first day of the Lunar New Year, Gu Xuanyu and his brother were going to visit their maternal grandfather. Bao Ni and her friends were also going to visit relatives and friends as well.

I won't go into detail about the Gu family. Bao Ni's second brother's family went back to their hometown. Before the Lunar New Year, her second brother came over and gave her a New Year's gift, and Bao Ni returned the gift in return.

The relationship remains neither too close nor too distant, which is fine.

"Hurry up and wash up and eat dumplings, there will be people visiting to offer New Year's greetings soon."

Bonnie's dumplings are ready, steaming hot, and a whole table full of them.

"Second Aunt, where are my dumplings?"

After washing up, Gu Xuanyi thought to himself that he would continue to fight and was sure he could get a coin.

"Your second uncle ate the dumplings, but the coins are still on the table."

There should be some coins in this plate. Try it; you might find one.

"My dad's back?"

Sanqi didn't care about coins; he just wanted his dad to eat dumplings with them and try the dishes he made.

Before Bonnie could even say that Gu Ye was sleeping, Sanqi had already pushed the door open and entered the room. She's usually not this fast.

Inside the house, Gu Ye was already awake. He had woken up after the children got up, but he just wanted to stay in bed a little longer.

"Dad, get up and eat dumplings."

Sanqi opened the door and went inside. He called out and saw that his father was already awake.

"Okay, son, Happy New Year!"

Happy New Year, Dad!

Sanqi felt a little embarrassed and turned to leave.

"You little rascal, you're still shy."

Gu Ye got up to wash up. He wanted to eat dumplings with his wife and children—the first dumplings of the new year.

Happy New Year, Second Uncle (Dad)!

"Happy New Year! Honey, here's your lucky money!"

Gu Ye looked at Bao Ni. He hadn't prepared anything and barely carried any money in his pocket.

Bonnie took out the prepared red envelopes and handed them to the children.

Gu Ye returned in the early hours of the morning, ate a plate of cold dumplings, and even found a coin in them.

"Honey, I'm going to be rich this year! I found a coin in my food."

Gu Ye was quite happy; it was a good omen!

"hehe……"

The six or nine people looked at Gu Xuanyi and couldn't help but laugh. How could things have turned out so complicated?

Gu Ye was puzzled, but when he looked at his wife, she also had a smile on her face.

"That's what Xuanyi didn't get to eat last night. He thought he'd be able to get the coin if he ate it this morning."

Bonnie should explain to her silly husband, didn't you see how frustrated Xuanyi is?

Gu Ye hadn't expected this reason, but there was nothing he could do; he ate it all.

"It's alright, Uncle. I'll eat this plate today. Aunt said there might be coins in it."

Sylphy perked up again, determined that he would get to eat.

Bonnie had marked that there were coins in Gu Xuanyi's plate.

Sure enough, Gu Xuanyi bit into a coin on his third dumpling.

"May you be happy and prosperous!"

The children joined in a shout, and Gu Xuanyi's face visibly lit up.

Gu Ye praised the dishes Sanqi had prepared, thinking they were made by a chef specializing in state banquets. Sanqi was even a little embarrassed, finding it all too unusual.

The meal was filled with laughter and joy, and everyone was in a good mood.

Gu Xuanyu took Gu Xuanyi to pay New Year's respects to his maternal grandparents, while Bao Ni and Gu Ye stayed at home to receive friends who came to visit.

Liu Jiu and San Qi went to visit friends. During the Spring Festival, there's no need to study, so many friends can go out and have some fun.

On the island thousands of miles away, the Lin family is all here this year, except for Lin Baoni.

Bao Ni's mother was busy in the kitchen with her three daughters-in-law, while Da Bao and Er Bao played with their three younger brothers. Bao Ni's father and his family were chatting together. The men in the Lin family didn't have the habit of cooking.

"Dad, our team will be dividing up the land after the New Year. How many acres will our family get?"

Lin Tao knows more about things in Beijing. The current internal reforms are mainly aimed at rural areas.

“There are only four of us in the family. You all moved out, except for your eldest brother’s family. None of you have your household registration here, and you don’t have any land.”

I estimate it's only three or four acres; the amount of arable land on our island is limited.

Bonnie's father had been the team leader for so many years, he knew exactly how much land and how many people were in their team.

“That works too. If the land is distributed to individuals, their enthusiasm will be higher, and the yield will also increase.”

Lin Yu has worked here for so many years and knows what everyone is thinking.

"That's true. Before, it didn't matter how much we did, so we lost our motivation. Now, we do more, we harvest more, and it all goes into our own granaries, so we're definitely putting in more effort."

Bonnie's father understood, but Lin Bo didn't quite. He hadn't worked in the fields much and joined the army right after graduation.

"Dad, didn't my sister tell you to rent out the land and not farm it, and to go to Beijing for a while? Don't forget that."

Lin Bo accepted the task, and his sister told him to mention it whenever he had free time, fearing that his father might be tempted to go back to farming.

“I know, I don’t plan to plant it. Boss, if you guys decide to plant it, I’ll rent it to you, and you’ll give us the grain. If you don’t plant it, I’ll rent it to someone else.”

Bonnie's dad has made up his mind. He'll listen to his daughter, take good care of his health, and enjoy life in the future.

Lin Yu and Lin Tao were surprised; they hadn't expected their father to agree.

"Dad, I'll farm the land and bring you the grain later."

Lin Yu's family now consists of five people. All three children are in school, and his wife brought a little girl who is a year older than his second child.

In the past two years, their home has become a proper home. His wife is very capable and manages everything inside and outside the home very well.

"Alright, we'll give you whatever amount is due when the time comes. Even though we're father and son, we need to keep clear accounts."
