Bonnie told Gu Ye about the Yang family's situation, "Sister-in-law Wei Hong wants you to tell Brother Wenze so he's aware of things. Aunt Yang isn't very magnanimous and might cause trouble."
She's already taken her anger out on him, and revenge isn't out of the question. As the wife of a military commander, many people are eager to curry favor with her, but they might not know that the person she's targeting is Commander Yang's own son.
"I understand. I'll call Wenze in a bit and let him be prepared."
Gu Ye was happy for Wen Ze in his heart. If Boss Yang were dead, half of the revenge would be accomplished. It was a pity that he didn't do it himself, but that it was fate.
Gu Ye, who never believed in ghosts or gods, quietly got up after Bao Ni fell asleep and prayed to the moon outside, hoping that Gu Xiangdong and the others would also suffer retribution!
"Dad, what are you doing?"
Sanqi got up to pee and was startled to see her father standing on the balcony praying.
"What are you doing up in the middle of the night?"
Caught red-handed by his son, Gu Ye felt a pang of guilt and took the initiative.
"I got up to pee, what are you doing up? Are you praying to the gods? Dad, it's better to rely on yourself than others. When things happen, you have to rely on yourself. Everything else is just a lie."
Gu Ye thought to himself, "Don't be angry, don't be angry, he's my own son."
"You're mistaken. I just woke up suddenly and wanted to see if the moon was full today. Okay, go pee now, or you'll wet your pants."
Gu Ye didn't give Sanqi a chance to speak and quickly walked back.
"What?! I saw the way you were holding your hand! You're still trying to deny it. Adults don't tell children to lie, but they're blatantly lying..."
Gu Ye held back, pretending he hadn't heard Sanqi's words, and quickly closed the door.
Sanqi looked at his father's hurried figure and thought, "Really, why is he running so fast?"
No, I can't hold it in any longer.
No one knew about the little incident that happened that evening except for Gu Ye and his son. To avoid Sanqi's questions, Gu Ye didn't even eat breakfast at home.
When Liu Jiu and her friends returned from their morning exercise, they didn't see her father, which was quite strange. They wondered why he was so busy and had left so early in the morning.
Bonnie found it strange too, as she hadn't heard Gu Ye mention anything about having an urgent matter that required him to leave early today!
"Hurry up and wash up, dinner is ready."
Bonnie brought out a bowl of porridge, boiled eggs, steamed buns bought from the cafeteria, and milk she had ordered—a nutritious and plentiful meal.
The three children had been exercising all morning, and their appetites were really good. They ate a bottle of milk, two boiled eggs, porridge, steamed buns, and pickled vegetables—they ate everything without missing a thing.
The children left with their schoolbags on their backs, but Bonnie still had time; she could stay half an hour longer.
After tidying up the table and changing her clothes, Bonnie applied some face cream, then picked up her bag and went to work. She planned to go grocery shopping after work at noon.
In the library, everyone except Lan Hua arrived. They began cleaning their classrooms, putting the books back in their places, and tidying up.
Lan Hua arrived right on time. She didn't go to her own classroom but ran to Bonnie's.
"Lin Baoni, guess why I'm so late?"
"How am I supposed to guess? You don't usually arrive early either."
Bonnie didn't know what Lan Hua was thinking. She would always pick fights with her and then act like nothing had happened and move closer to her.
"No, don't wrong me, I'm never late."
“I didn’t say you were late. You said you weren’t going to say anything, and that I’d be working if you weren’t going to say anything.”
Bonnie didn't want to listen either, but if she wasn't allowed to say it, she would keep coming over and nagging her all day long.
"You're so impatient, you have no patience at all."
Bonnie thought to herself, "Thank you for finding fault with me in such a roundabout way."
Not wanting to listen anymore, she turned to leave.
"Hey, don't go, don't go, I'll tell you, okay?"
Orchid grabbed Bonnie's arm; she really had a terrible temper.
"I saw two high school students dating around the corner of the school. They were so bold, they were even kissing. Oh my god, I'm afraid I'll get a sty."
Bonnie retorted, "If you're afraid of getting a sty, why are you still looking? Can't you just leave already?"
"I couldn't resist. Kids these days are so shameless. Back when we went on blind dates, we were too embarrassed to even look at each other. We would walk more than a meter apart."
These two, at school, dared to kiss each other without even hiding it from anyone.
Lan Hua was so excited that her spittle flew out of her mouth.
Where did you see it?
Curator Zhang heard it; the main reason was that Lan Hua's voice got very loud when she got excited.
"Isn't there a blind spot around the corner of our library?"
Lan Hua blurted out, and Teacher Zhang went out immediately. He had to go and see who wasn't cherishing the opportunity to learn and was doing things unrelated to studying at school.
As soon as Lan Hua saw the curator leave, she stopped talking and quickly went back to her classroom to work.
Teacher Zhang went out for a walk but didn't see anything. She went to the school's academic director, reported the incident, and asked the teachers to be careful, as the children are still young and shouldn't get lost.
There were no further developments in this matter, and Bonnie didn't hear anything about it.
Around mid-April, Sister-in-law Wei Hong brought the latest news from the Yang family: this time, Yang the eldest might really be dying, and the family had begun preparing for his funeral.
Bonnie didn't take it to heart; she was busy planting vegetables.
The temperature has risen, so it's time to sow seeds.
She's taking a break this week and plans to plant the seedlings. They're already quite tall, and if they grow any bigger, it will affect their survival rate.
When they returned on Friday night, the children brought a notice from Teacher Zhai that they would be taking a day off over the weekend, and she wanted to come and help plant vegetables.
Bonnie was happy to agree. She was worried that she couldn't handle everything by herself and hadn't had the nerve to ask the other children for leave.
Teacher Zhai taught them for free, and Bao Ni would occasionally send them some local specialties, such as dried seafood, preserved fruit, and dried fruit.
A while ago, when I went to Dayang Village to buy rice and eggs, the brigade leader's wife gave me a lot of wild vegetables. Bao Ni gave some to Teacher Zhai and Professor Gao, and they both liked them very much.
Then there's the added benefit of Sanqi's culinary skills. Every weekend, after Sanqi and the others finish their classes in the morning, they stay to cook a meal and eat with Teacher Zhai before leaving.
Well, Ms. Zhai is not short of money, and she has a special connection with several children.
She knows Ms. Xu Ning, and the children are Ms. Xu Ning's grandchildren.
Ms. Zhai really likes the children, especially Sanqi, whom she takes great care of, teaching him not only English but also French.
Although Bonnie didn't know Ms. Zhai's story, she guessed from Professor Gao's words that he wanted them to get along well with Ms. Zhai, to lend a hand if needed in the future, and to treat her like a relative.
Bonnie understood that Ms. Zhai was alone and often felt lonely.
She taught several children, and they also kept her company; they were all very happy with this arrangement. Bonnie was very grateful to Ms. Zhai and genuinely treated her like an elder in the family.
When people get along, it's always a win-win situation; feelings are built up over time.
Bonnie's mind was racing with all sorts of thoughts. Gu Ye had been busy and hadn't come back for the past two days, and she was starting to miss her man.
Oh well, stop thinking about anything and go to sleep. We have work to do tomorrow!
