When Bonnie got home, she saw that her children were all sulking.
What happened?
“Mom, these past few days we’ve felt like people in the compound are pointing fingers at us and whispering about us. But as soon as we go over there, they stop talking. My sister almost lost it today and wanted to beat them up.”
Sanqi also wanted to beat them up, but unfortunately, he wasn't strong enough. If he knew what they were saying and remembered it, he could have used that topic to make them cry.
"It's alright, Mom found out. They were gossiping, so I went to the military base. Your dad wasn't home, and I was hoping to find someone in charge, but I ran into a group of high-ranking officers."
"You should be patient for a couple of days. Don't alert them. Let the military officers investigate thoroughly and see who is spreading rumors."
Bonnie didn't say why, but she could probably guess who spread the rumor. However, without evidence, she couldn't let the children overthink it.
Liu Jiu knew her mother knew what had happened, so she stopped worrying about it. She was better off thinking about how to beat up the children of those gossiping women.
The investigation won't yield results so quickly, and Bonnie doesn't even know if she went to the military base correctly, plus she can't get in touch with Gu Ye.
The next morning, after the children went out for breakfast, Bonnie called Brother Gu.
"Hello, is this sister-in-law? This is Bonnie."
"Second Aunt, were you looking for me?"
Gu Xuanhao answered the phone; he happened to be right next to him.
"Xuanhao, your second aunt is looking for your father. Is he home?"
"Dad, my second aunt is looking for you."
Bonnie heard Gu Xuanhao's voice on the microphone and knew that her older brother Gu was at home.
"Bonnie, what happened?"
Gu Ze knew that if someone was calling at this hour, something must have happened.
"Brother, here's what happened. Because of Aunt Zhai teaching some children a foreign language, someone spread the word, and now rumors are flying around the family compound."
The gist is that Commander Gu has a lot of money; he hired diplomats to teach his children foreign languages. Officials are rich and powerful, and they have access to all the best resources...
That's roughly the gist of it. I only found out about it yesterday; it's been circulating for several days now.
Gu Ye wasn't home, and I couldn't contact him either, so I had to resolve the issue with the military. Otherwise, rumors would spread, and wouldn't that cause trouble for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?
When I went there yesterday, I ran into a lot of military leaders at the gate. I don't know how they got together, and I don't know who they were. I only recognized Commander Yang, Han Ye's father.
Later, it must have been the commander who gave the order, instructing the reconnaissance company to investigate the matter.
I just want to ask if there's anything wrong with how this was done; I didn't expect to run into so many high-ranking officials.
Bonnie only had a vague understanding of these things; Old Jiang was too busy training her to explain them to her.
Actually, she rebelled later, opposing for the sake of opposing, and didn't really take Old Jiang's words to heart. If only she had known, she would have studied more; having more skills is never a bad thing, and she wouldn't be so clueless now.
After listening, Gu Ze understood.
"Bonnie, don't worry, it's nothing serious. You can go to work as usual. I'll talk to them in a bit. You did the right thing."
Such matters should be resolved at the beginning; otherwise, leaving things unresolved can easily lead to future problems.
Upon hearing this, Bonnie immediately perked up and didn't say anything more, as she hadn't eaten yet.
"Okay, it's good that everything's alright. I haven't eaten yet. The kids went out to eat and then went to school. I'm hanging up now."
"Hang up, it's okay. Call me if anything happens. Don't worry, Gu Ye and I are here."
Bonnie hung up the phone in a good mood, ate all the leftovers at home, and felt a little full.
Gu Ze felt quite conflicted after hanging up the phone. This matter was inextricably linked to Shen's eldest sister-in-law.
Gu Ze couldn't care less about the Shen family anymore. He made two phone calls to Beijing to find out some things and give some instructions before going to work.
Sister-in-law Gu, who had left early this morning, was unaware that her sister-in-law from her maternal family had gotten into trouble again.
Bonnie went to work as usual and wasn't affected, which put Teacher Ma and the others at ease. If something really happened, there wouldn't be much they could do to help.
"You've solved it, and you seem to be in a good mood."
Orchid looked at Bonnie and thought, "This girl has such a big heart!"
"Rumors stop with the wise. What can I do but go door-to-door to spread them?"
Bonnie can't say anything right now, the investigation results aren't out yet.
"That's true. Things are different now than before. The police are much more capable now."
Seeing that Bonnie was alright, Lan Hua went back to her classroom. She still had a pile of books to organize, and the sight of books gave her a headache.
Bonnie realized she had misjudged Orchid; she was a kind-hearted person after all. Next time, if she flirts, she'll let her have her way.
Bonnie's good mood lasted until just before she left work, when someone notified her to go to the military commander's office. She knew the test results were in.
Bonnie said goodbye to Teacher Zhang, packed her things, and went to the military base.
This time, someone led her in, and Bonnie knew the rules, so she didn't look around.
"Comrade Lin, please go in. The commander is waiting for you inside."
"Okay, thank you."
Bonnie pushed open the door and went inside. There were two people in the room. The one sitting was probably the Commander, and she didn't recognize the one standing and talking.
"Comrade Lin is here. Come, have a seat. The comrades from the reconnaissance company have just brought over the inspection results, and I want you to know as well."
The commander was very kind and approachable, speaking in a calm and unhurried manner, which made people feel relaxed.
"Thank you so much, I'm so grateful for the trouble you've caused the organization."
Bonnie was surprised that the comrades in the reconnaissance company were so capable and had results so quickly. They truly lived up to the reputation of the People's Liberation Army!
