Chapter 4 Military Rescue

Lin Baoni didn't pay much attention to what Grandpa Lin and the others were saying; she had a lot of things on her mind that she hadn't sorted out yet.

She didn't really pay much attention to the rumors outside, probably because she didn't quite understand how fast gossip spread in this era.

In fact, not to mention this era, even decades from now, there are still cases of cyberbullying causing death.

Lin Baoni is now interested in the original owner's strength, and just how great it is.

That day, she gave Wang Daya a hard push, and he flew out. Luckily, it was by the sea, and the sand was soft; otherwise, it would have caused a huge problem!

Lin Baoni was lost in thought in the room, while Grandpa Lin lay on the kang (a heated brick bed), also wondering if he could find someone at the army base tomorrow and what to say.

As dawn breaks, people get up to cook and wash, and the clanging and banging begin the daily symphony of a farm life!

After breakfast, Lin's father and the others went to work, while Lin Baoni was left at home to take care of her eldest child.

Grandpa Lin walked towards the distant camp by himself; it wasn't far, about a twenty-minute walk.

The island they live on is called Haidao (岛), and it is the largest in the province and ranks among the top three in the country.

The island has been inhabited for hundreds of years and has a large population.

The island has mountains, rivers, and hills, and it's not too far from Qingdao. There are also many other small islands nearby, some inhabited and some deserted.

Because of these differences, Jiang Jiaojiao suspected that she had entered a parallel world, since the names of the islands she knew did not match.

Anyway, Grandpa Lin arrived at the gate of the camp in no time.

The soldier on guard gestured for him to stop, but Grandpa Lin did not go any further and instead stood still and waited.

"Sir, what's the matter?" a young soldier asked as he ran out of the guardhouse.

White shirt and blue pants, so smart! Her daughter would look so good in them!

"Oh, um, I'm looking for someone," Grandpa Lin quickly replied, snapping out of his daze.

"Who are you looking for?" the young soldier asked patiently.

Grandpa Lin was also confused; he didn't know his name either, and he hadn't left his name at the time.

After thinking for a moment, Grandpa Lin said, "Did any of your soldiers fall into the sea and drown a few days ago, and were rescued by a female comrade? I'm looking for him."

This is the only information he knows; if he can't find it, then he'll just have to give up.

The young soldier listened thoughtfully, but his expression remained unchanged. He smiled and said, "Sir, please wait a moment. There are quite a few of us here. I don't know about what you're talking about. I'll go ask for you."

"Wait a moment, I'll be right back." After saying that, he ran over to greet the soldier on guard, then went into the guard room to make a phone call.

A moment later, the soldier ran over again and said to Grandpa Lin, "Grandpa, our instructor will be here soon. Please wait a moment."

"Okay, you go ahead with your work. I'll wait here for a bit. You don't need to stay with me," Grandpa Lin quickly said, meaning that once the person was found, that was fine.

Grandpa Lin found a shady spot, sat down, and thought about what to say later.

Xiao Chaoyang rushed over after receiving the call, but it was due to his negligence; he had been so busy with military matters these past few days that he had neglected the rescue.

Just as I arrived at the main gate, a young soldier from the guardhouse ran out, stood at attention, and saluted. "Instructor, it's the old man over there in the shade." He then gestured with his right hand.

"Alright, you can go about your business now." Political Commissar Xiao straightened his uniform and walked over there.

Grandpa Lin saw the officer walking towards him and stood up.

"Hello, fellow villager!" Xiao Chaoyang walked up to him, saluted, and greeted him.

"Hello, hello..." Grandpa Lin reached out and shook the officer's outstretched hand, a little excited.

"Fellow villager, I am Xiao Chaoyang, the political instructor of the first battalion. This was our oversight; we didn't contact you in time," Xiao Chaoyang apologized repeatedly.

Seeing that the military leaders were so friendly, Grandpa Lin relaxed and said, "It's alright. If it weren't for some gossip, we would never have come to the military. We really had no other choice."

Xiao Chaoyang could tell that something was going on!

Indeed, although he wasn't there at the time, it's not surprising that the mouth-to-mouth breathing technique he heard from the returning soldiers caused gossip.

“Hey, folks, look, the sun’s shining brightly. Why don’t we go inside and talk things over?” Xiao Chaoyang invited Grandpa Lin to his office.

"Okay, I'll listen to the leader." Grandpa Lin was there to solve the problem, so it didn't matter where he said it; he trusted the People's Liberation Army's character.

After registering at the guard room, Xiao Chaoyang took Grandpa Lin to his office.

"Fellow villager, have some water." Xiao Chaoyang poured a glass of water from an enamel mug and placed it in front of Grandpa Lin.

"Thank you so much, then I'll get straight to the point." Grandpa Lin thought he should finish quickly because he had to get back to work.

“Please tell me, please tell me…” Xiao Chaoyang could also tell that the old man wasn’t the type to dawdle.

"I'm from the island's first team. The one who rescued the person was my granddaughter, Lin Baoni. Originally, the rescue was a good deed, but because of the method used, now the whole island, and even the nearby islands, are talking about my Baoni."

Grandpa Lin felt so angry he could hardly breathe whenever he thought of those hurtful words.

“They said my daughter Bonnie was being indecent, and that she kissed someone in broad daylight.”

At this point, Grandpa Lin got extremely angry again, and his words were too harsh.

"Fellow villager, calm down. Let's not argue with those ignorant people." Xiao Chaoyang could feel the old man's anger. He had clearly done a good deed, but he was being smeared in various ways.

Grandpa Lin paused for a moment, then continued, "My daughter Bao Ni is a 19-year-old young lady, and they were blocking her way and saying all sorts of nasty things. If it weren't for my daughter's strength, most of these hooligans wouldn't dare to come closer, and who knows what might have happened."

This isn't uncommon. When the daughter of Old Zhao from Team Three fell into the water and was rescued, these gossipy women started saying she wasn't clean.
