Bonnie had been busy for several days. The expert visited and left his contact information. He said she could write to him if she had any questions in the future.
We've found most of the necessary materials and brought back dozens of books.
The New Year arrived quietly. Bao Ni was so busy that she didn't notice that the rest of the Gu family were gathering at Grandpa Gu's house. The noise from the adults and children pulled Bao Ni out of her sea of books.
Looking at the crowd sitting downstairs, including some that Bonnie had never seen before.
"Brother, sister-in-law."
"Baoni, this is Gu Wei from my third uncle's family. He's a sophomore at military academy."
Gu Ye didn't expect Gu Wei to come back. At that time, he didn't want to go home. During his holidays, he would go to the army for internships and preferred to eat communal meals in the army.
"Hello, I am Gu Ye's wife, Lin Baoni."
Bonnie remembered that Uncle Gu's two sons, one was in military school and the other was taking the college entrance exam next year. She wondered if this would be affected, since universities would be closed!
"Have my older brother and the others arrived?"
Bonnie didn't see her sister-in-law; she wondered if she had gone to help in the kitchen.
"My older brother hasn't arrived yet."
Gu Wei and his group arrived first. They didn't see his older brother and his family, but his uncle's family had all arrived.
Gu Ye and Gu Wei went to talk to each other, while Bao Ni wandered around by herself.
Gu Ye and Gu Wei got along well and played together when they were young, despite their four-year age difference. Gu Nan from Uncle San's family, however, was a different story, partly due to their significant age difference, and more importantly, their different personalities.
Grandma Gu was cooking in the kitchen with her two daughters-in-law, Grandpa Gu and Gu Feng were playing chess, and the other younger relatives were chatting and laughing in small groups.
Bonnie has been busy organizing materials these past few days. She's very tired and a little sleepy. She just wants to lie in bed and take a nap, but that's not a good idea.
Bonnie doesn't have to help with cooking, but she can't be so ill-mannered as to hide in her room and sleep soundly when the elders are all around.
"Second Aunt, Xuanyu is here!"
The little voice immediately woke Bonnie up; her friend had arrived, and she finally had someone to play with, so she wasn't bored anymore.
"Xuanyu, your second aunt has been missing you so much! Why did you take so long to come? I've been waiting for you for ages!"
"Hehe, I was all dressed and about to arrive, but I took my clothes off again."
Why?
"Poop is here."
Xiao Xuanyu whispered shyly into Bao Ni's ear.
"Ah! Is that how it is? It's not Xuan Yu's fault."
The others watched the two whispering to each other, their voices too soft to hear clearly, and they were quite anxious.
"Xuanyu, what are you saying? Tell your aunt too." Gu Lan was like an unkillable cockroach; once she recovered, she was bouncing around again.
"No, this is a secret between my second aunt and me."
Knowing how embarrassing this was, Xuan Yu, who was shy, didn't want anyone else to know. He covered his mouth with both hands, his attitude firm.
"You silly child, how can you not tell the difference between inside and outside? I'm your own aunt, and you're not even as good as some outsider's aunt? Are you stupid?"
Gu Lan was furious. Ever since Lin Baoni came, she had encountered all sorts of misfortunes.
"I'm not stupid!"
Xuanyu was angry because of what his aunt said, but he couldn't do anything about it.
“Xuanyu, you are truly wise despite your apparent foolishness. Some people may seem shrewd, but they are actually stupid!” Bonnie picked up Xuanyu and looked at Gu Lan.
"You're the stupid one, you..." Gu Lan's words were cut short as she saw Lin Baoni's hand and felt her face sting again.
"My sister-in-law is amazing! She didn't even lift a finger, and she scared my sister so much that she couldn't even speak!" Gu Mei, who is almost fourteen, looks like Gu Xiangdong, but once she opens her mouth, you can tell that she is her mother's biological daughter.
"You want to experience it too? You're not very old, but you've learned good speaking skills. No wonder you come from a family with such a tradition. Xuanyu, let me tell you, you probably won't choose a wife like this in the future. It's easy for the family to be in turmoil and it will affect your luck."
"I'm looking for an aunt like that!"
"Haha...Young man, you have good taste!"
"You're bullying me, taking advantage of my age, and you even said I'm unwanted!" Gu Mei was almost crying with anger. What kind of people are these, echoing such a young child? They have no class at all.
"This is boring. If you can't handle this, don't keep talking. What's the point of this backstabbing and nitpicking?" Bonnie picked up Xuanyu and left, leaving them with a dashing back view.
Gu Mei looked around at her sisters, but none of them were there to help her. She cried in grievance, but dared not cry loudly, for fear of being criticized during the New Year.
Gu Ye had good hearing and knew that Bao Ni hadn't suffered a loss, so he calmly placed a piece.
The New Year's Eve dinner is ready, and there aren't enough seats at one table.
Grandpa Gu, as the patriarch, took the lead.
"In the new year, I hope that everyone in our Gu family will do their part, avoid causing trouble, and not be the one to stick their neck out. If anyone causes trouble for the family, don't expect the family to bail you out; it's impossible. I'm making this clear in advance today: if anyone is showing off outside and gets into trouble, deal with it yourself. Don't blame the family for leaving you to fend for yourself. Take responsibility for your actions."
Grandpa Gu's admonition was not unfounded. There were many examples to follow, and at such a sensitive time, he had to take preventative measures in advance to prevent unfilial descendants from dragging the entire family down with them.
"Okay, Grandpa!"
"Alright, let's eat."
Lin Baoni and Gu Ye, who were eating, started their meal. They were going back home after the New Year to escape the political center and have a more relaxed life.
Grandpa Gu's authority was so great that most people didn't dare to challenge it. The meal was eaten quietly, and even Gu Bei didn't dare to flinch. He was especially afraid of Grandpa Gu, like a mouse seeing a cat.
After dinner, everyone stayed together. It was a rare treat for the whole family to be together; it wouldn't be easy to get everyone together again in the future!
The men gathered to play chess and chat, the unmarried girls discussed clothes and hair ties, and the wives were busy tidying up the kitchen.
