Gu Xuanyi was a little embarrassed. His second aunt helped him to the toilet and then helped him back.
"Alright, you stay here and read a book. I'm going to call your mom."
Bonnie handed Xuanyi his schoolbag, reminding him that his studies couldn't be neglected.
"Okay, Auntie, you go ahead and do your work. I'll just stay here and read. I won't move around."
Gu Xuanyi hopes his leg will heal soon, as he still needs to go to school.
Bonnie went out and dialed Sister-in-law Gu's house. It rang for a long time before being answered.
Hello, who is this?
Bonnie recognized Gu's voice and felt relieved; she had finally made contact.
"Sister-in-law, it's me."
"Bonnie, what's wrong? Did something happen?"
Aunt Gu perked up immediately. She had been busy all day and didn't get home until midnight. However, Bonnie wouldn't call so early in the morning unless she was at work.
"Sister-in-law, yesterday..."
Bonnie recounted how Xuanyi got injured, including the reason for the incident, but didn't mention the outcome, which hasn't been revealed yet.
"Xuanyi is in the hospital now. The doctor has seen him, and he will be discharged the day after tomorrow. I couldn't get in touch with you yesterday, so I called early this morning to let you know."
Bonnie told her what happened. She's a mother too, and as parents, we all want to know about things related to our children, whether they're good or bad.
"Baoni, thank you for your hard work. With Xuanyi injured, you've been busy taking care of everything. I really can't leave here. I was busy until midnight yesterday, and your older brother hasn't been back for several days."
Sister-in-law Gu also felt sorry for her son, but distant water can't quench immediate thirst, so she could only trouble Bao Ni and Gu Ye, mainly Bao Ni, as Gu Ye was also busy with work, especially at this time.
"Sister-in-law, there's no need for us to be so polite. Xuanyi is doing quite well; he's studying in his hospital room. I was just letting you know so you wouldn't have to worry."
As parents, we all want to know about our children's health, whether it's good or bad. The child will be discharged the day after tomorrow; the doctor said the child is still young and won't suffer any lasting effects.
Things aren't like they used to be. Food wasn't hard to come by, and we had plenty of good food at home. We'd make some bone broth, and people believed in the principle of "you are what you eat."
Bonnie told her sister-in-law about the current situation and future plans. She didn't feel that she had failed in her duty. It was an accident, and she had done her best, so she didn't feel that she needed to apologize.
"Okay, I'll leave Xuan Yi in your care. I'm the mother, but you've done more than I have. And Xuan Yu, he said his classmates all envy him for having such a good second aunt, he's so proud of it."
Gu Xuanyu called home and said that his second aunt always brought him food and clothes, and his classmates were all envious.
Sister-in-law Gu asked herself if she and Bao Ni were to switch places, she wouldn't do any better than Bao Ni.
"They are all the same children. We shouldn't favor one over the other, as that would affect their relationship."
Bonnie likes Xuanyu and the other kids, and she also remembers Gu Dasao's kindness.
When she first got married, Sister-in-law Gu treated her very well, especially after she gave birth to Liu Jiu. Every year, she would send her a lot of food and supplies without fail. At that time, housing was scarce, so Sister-in-law Gu would search everywhere for good things.
Interpersonal relationships are always about give and take; it's a two-way street where you treat me well and I treat you well in return.
Once Sister-in-law Gu knew that Xuan Yi was alright, she stopped worrying. She chatted with Bao Ni about some everyday matters and then hung up the phone; she still had a lot of work to do.
At the school, the teachers who were present yesterday reported the incident to the principal. This matter is too egregious and must be severely punished.
In the morning, officers from the Public Security Bureau came to the school; they wanted to verify the situation with Liang Xiaocao.
"Liang Xiaocao, is this related to her?"
Teacher Qiu, the homeroom teacher of Liu Jiu, looked surprised. He knew about Gu Xuanyi's injury, but he didn't expect that Liang Xiaocao was involved.
"Yes, those people mentioned Liang Xiaocao in their statements, so we need to take her back to verify the situation. Please inform her parents that one of you will need to accompany her."
Liang Xiaocao felt intimidated when she saw the police officer talking to Teacher Qiu.
She felt embarrassed after being rejected by Gu Xuanyi. When she got home, her parents talked to her about finding a husband. She couldn't help but say some ambiguous things to Brother Dajun and even revealed that Gu Xuanyi was on duty.
Now that the police have come, she's worried about going to jail. She doesn't want to.
Teacher Qiu called Liang Xiaocao's parents, explained the situation, and asked them to go to the police station.
Teacher Qiu asked other teachers to cover the class while she took Liang Xiaocao to the police station.
After Liang's parents arrived, the various groups sat down, and the police officers were about to ask questions.
“Liang Xiaocao, He Dajun said you cried to him that Gu Xuanyi bullied you and looked down on you, and he even told him about Gu Xuanyi’s duty roster.”
He went to the school to cause trouble for Gu Xuanyi because he felt sorry for you, and broke his leg.
As soon as the police officer finished speaking, Liang's parents started blowing up the temple.
"What? You've gotten involved with He Dajun? He's just a petty thug. Don't you care about your reputation?"
Enraged, Liang's father started cursing and raised his hand to strike, but was stopped by the police officers.
"I didn't, I didn't say that. I don't know why He Dajun went to hit Gu Xuanyi. It wasn't my order."
Liang Xiaocao denied everything; she couldn't admit it.
"But you had been writing letters to Gu Xuanyi, and after he found out it was you, he rejected you. Did you hold a grudge and want to get revenge on him?"
The police officers already knew the truth: He Dajun was just a petty thug who was used to fighting.
He had a crush on the girl in front of him, and after listening to her tearful story, he wanted to play the hero, so he went to the school to confront her, and even brought a knife.
