From the first to the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, everyone spent their time welcoming and seeing off guests.
After the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, everyone had finished their visits, and Bonnie and her friends' holiday was coming to an end. Before going back home, Bonnie planned to visit her second brother.
After being here for so long, Brother Gu said that Lin Tao and the others are in closed training and can't come out. We'll be able to see them after the New Year.
On the morning of the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, Bao Ni brought her second brother a lot of his favorite foods, some prepared by her grandmother and mother, and some bought by Bao Ni at the supply and marketing cooperative. She and Gu Ye carried them together to the army unit where her second brother was stationed.
After going through layers of verification and registration, Bonnie and her group finally arrived at the meeting room.
"Baoni, Gu Ye!"
"Second Brother!"
After not seeing him for more than half a year, Bonnie felt that her second brother's overall demeanor had changed, even his skin tone had changed.
He said he'd gotten lighter, but no, he's still just as dark-skinned. However, it's not the same as when he was on the island; maybe it's because the sea breeze isn't blowing anymore, and the sun isn't as strong!
"How's everything at home? Are Grandpa, Grandma, and Mom all well? How's Da Bao? Lin Bo..."
When Lin Tao was on the island, he dreamed of joining the army. Now that he had actually left home, the longing for home surged up like a tidal wave, especially when he couldn't sleep at night.
"Everything's fine, everything's fine, you don't need to worry. Just take good care of yourself, I'm basically going home every day."
"You still have the nerve to say that? You're married, you've started a family, you're an adult, yet you still act like a little kid who can't leave his mother. Aren't you afraid Gu Ye will laugh at you?"
Listening to Bonnie's words, Lin Tao could tell that she was doing well after getting married, and he was happy for her.
"Don't laugh, as long as Bonnie is happy, that's all that matters. I often go back for meals too. Grandma's cooking is amazing; she even taught me how to cook. I'm the head chef in my family now." Gu Ye's affection for Bonnie comes from the bottom of his heart, especially after this trip back. Gu Ye feels a deep dependence on Bonnie.
Looking at the two of them exchanging such sweet glances, Lin Tao felt a chill run down his spine. Was this still the same cold and taciturn Gu Ye? It was terrifying. Could marriage really change a person so much?
Gu Ye wants to say that it's not marriage that changes people, but rather that the right person can change a person. This is based on his experience and personal feelings.
Lin Tao's time with his guests was limited. After explaining his family's recent situation, he took the things that Bonnie had brought and was about to leave.
Bonnie felt relieved after seeing each other and knowing how each other was doing, and didn't feel as reluctant to part. They were both adults, and they had chosen their own paths, so they always had to pay the corresponding price; homesickness was inevitable.
After visiting her second brother, Bonnie and the others prepared to return to the island.
Before leaving, Grandpa Gu and Brother Gu called Gu Ye to the study, gave him some work-related instructions, and analyzed the current situation to ensure that they were both aware of the situation.
Sister-in-law Gu was most reluctant to part with Bao Ni. Ever since Bao Ni came, she felt very relaxed and didn't want Bao Ni to leave.
"Second Aunt, when will you come back? Xuanyu will miss you. Will you come back next year for Chinese New Year? And don't forget the big conch shell you promised Xuanyu!"
"Xuanyu, do you miss your second aunt or the conch shell? I think you miss the conch shell more. I'm sad!" Bonnie teased the little guy. She liked Xuanyu. He was a well-mannered and polite child, the ideal child in her mind.
"Second Aunt, don't be sad. Of course I miss you more, Second Aunt. The conch shell is just a side thing."
Seeing Xuan Yu's serious little expression, Bao Ni and Sister-in-law Gu chuckled.
Sister-in-law Gu prepared a lot of local specialties from Beijing, the ones that could be stored, for Bao Ni to take back to her in-laws' grandparents, uncles, and aunts to try. She also gave Bao Ni a lot of fabrics and skincare products that she had saved up.
Humans are emotional beings. For those we get along with, we won't feel that giving them mountains of gold and silver is too much, but for those we can't get along with, we won't even feel that giving them a needle is unnecessary.
Both Sister-in-law Gu and Bao Ni are people of this temperament, as can be seen from how Bao Ni distributes the things they brought back.
Most of it was given to Sister-in-law Gu, and even if Sister-in-law Gu couldn't finish it and took it back to her parents' home, Bao Ni didn't care. And Sister-in-law Gu was the same; she gave Bao Ni things she liked without any hesitation.
Gu Ze and Gu Ye were happy to see the two sisters-in-law getting along like real sisters.
Grandpa Gu also gave Gu Ye some good wine and cigarettes, asking him to give them to Bao Ni's grandfather to thank them for marrying such a wonderful Bao Ni to Gu Ye.
Gu Ye accepted the offer without hesitation. His grandfather's cigarettes and alcohol were specially supplied and were hard to buy outside.
Before leaving, Gu Ye had a small gathering with a few childhood friends and specifically told Bai Chaoyang that if he really wanted to go to the island, he should make a decision as soon as possible.
Carrying large and small bags, Gu Ye and Bao Ni bid farewell to everyone in the Gu family and Kyoto, heading towards the island.
Returning to her long-lost home, Bonnie felt comfortable everywhere she looked. The old saying was so true: there's no place like home.
Gu Ye still had two days off. That evening, after eating hot noodle soup made by Gu Ye, the two went to bed early. During their stay at Grandpa Gu's house, the two hadn't felt comfortable being too intimate. Now that they were finally back home, Gu Ye no longer held back.
The bed creaked all night, only stopping when it was light.
The two were woken up by hunger; they hadn't slept much all night and were very tired.
"You can't do that again, you have to take it easy!"
Bonnie rubbed her rumbling stomach, filled with regret. She shouldn't have let Gu Ye have his way.
"You like it too, but I wasn't the one who kept telling you not to stop!"
With a thud, Gu Ye, caught off guard, was kicked to the ground by Bao Ni. People who take advantage of others and then act innocent are the most hateful.
