Chapter 435 Moving into the New Home

The flea market had so many things, a dazzling array, that Bonnie was a little overwhelmed.

With the bed and wardrobe in place, Gu Ye picked out two dressing tables, one for his wife and one for his daughter. Each child's room needed a desk and chair, a small bookshelf, a bookshelf in the study, and a large desk…

The two of them thought everything they saw was nice, and the wood used in these secondhand items was of good quality. There was no rosewood or anything like that, but there were one or two pieces of boxwood and mahogany.

After selecting the items, Gu Ye called the logistics department and borrowed a vehicle; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to haul them all back—there were more than ten items. These days, there's no such thing as door-to-door delivery, and there aren't trucks readily available for hauling goods everywhere, so he had to find a vehicle from the military.

Traffic wasn't congested, and after Bonnie and her friends finished choosing and paying, the car arrived.

The logistics team was very considerate, even sending two young soldiers to help move things. Gu Ye and Bao Ni breathed a sigh of relief; many hands make light work.

These ten-odd pieces of furniture cost Bonnie several thousand yuan. The main reason for the high price was that Bonnie had her eye on a canopy bed. It wasn't made of particularly expensive wood, but it was very complete.

When Bao Ni was still Jiang Jiaojiao, she admired the canopy beds worn by noble ladies in period dramas. At the time, Lao Jiang said that they were things that eroded one's will.

Humans are strange creatures; they always yearn for what they don't have, keeping it buried in their hearts until it's touched upon, at which point it stirs up restlessness.

Bonnie's chosen canopy bed is a simplified version, without a complicated bed frame; it's just that the bed area is slightly larger, unlike the ones shown in TV dramas where a canopy bed looks like a small house.

The furniture was brought back, and two young soldiers helped carry it into the house. Without even drinking a drop of water, they drove off.

"Hey, why are you running so fast?"

"I'm afraid you'll treat them to a meal or bring them something nice to eat."

Gu Ye understood the soldiers in the army; they strictly adhered to discipline and would not take a single needle or thread from the people.

Bonnie glanced at the empty house; she couldn't even find a glass of water—she'd forgotten to prepare one.

The two stopped worrying about it and quickly put the bed up. Bonnie didn't like the double bed that the army logistics had brought before because it was too small, so they put it in the study upstairs.

The children's rooms all have single beds, each 1.8 meters by 1.2 meters, which is sufficient.

The bed is set up, along with a dressing table, a desk, and a wooden sofa and chairs on the first floor—one long, two single chairs, which I chose myself. There's also a coffee table, bookshelves, and a chest of drawers…

"Gu Ye, shouldn't we get you a study on the first floor too?"

Bonnie glanced around and saw that the other room on the first floor was also quite large. Gu Ye would likely need a study for some work-related matters in the future.

"Yes, I need it. I bought a bookshelf and a desk, which will be used in the study on the first floor. I took a look at the side rooms in the yard. They are well-built, with three rooms in total. Two of them can be furnished as living quarters, and the other can be used as a storage room."

At the time, the military logistics department probably thought the building was of good quality and that demolishing it would be a waste, so they kept it. We can hire a housekeeper ourselves, but they'll need to go through a strict background check. I'll talk to the logistics department about hiring someone who can cook.

Gu Ye had his own bodyguards and orderly, but they were mainly responsible for matters concerning the troops.

"Okay, no rush. Sanqi can last another year. Let's take our time and find a suitable one."

Bonnie doesn't want to keep changing housekeepers; it takes time to get used to them, and it's too much trouble. If she weren't so bad at cooking, she wouldn't need to hire a housekeeper.

"Honey, I see that washing machines are available for sale now. Let's buy one for our house. It'll be convenient for washing clothes, and it also has a refrigerator, which is great."

Gu Ye really got to see some of the other people's home appliances on this trip, and they were really impressive.

"We can buy a washing machine, but I'll take another look at the refrigerator. The current refrigerators are too small and can't hold much. The main thing is that our courtyard house's cellar is just as big as a refrigerator."

Bonnie knew that home appliances were still quite expensive, and that they would become much cheaper in a few years. Bonnie didn't like the current refrigerator; it wasn't practical and was too noisy.

As the two tidied up, they talked about things at home. Gu Ye listened to Bonnie's ramblings, and he wasn't annoyed at all; he actually enjoyed listening.

I've almost finished tidying up, it's time to go home and cook dinner, the kids will be home from school soon.

For dinner, we made dumplings with shepherd's purse and pork filling. Bao Ni saw an old man selling them, and they looked very fresh, so she bought them all. She wanted to eat shepherd's purse dumplings.

Actually, what Bonnie really wanted to eat was mackerel dumplings, but there was no fresh mackerel available, so she could only dream about it.

During summer vacation, if she has nothing else to do, she takes her children back to the island to stay for a while.

The two of them worked together, and by the time Sanqi got home, they had already made more than a hundred dumplings.

"Mom, we're having dumplings for dinner. What kind of filling?"

"Shepherd's purse and pork filling."

I didn't expect to see shepherd's purse growing on Sanqi now; well, the leaves outside are already sprouting. I hadn't noticed before, even though spring has been here for a while now.

Sanqi (a traditional Chinese medicine) is used to wash hands, and this is how people make dumplings.

Eating a delicious meal of shepherd's purse dumplings felt like eating spring itself.

Xuanyu returned over the weekend, and Gu Wei and Fang Dali's family also came over to help with the move.

"Meifeng, what will you do if you come to the store? There's not much stuff, it's all packed up. The logistics vehicle will come over in a bit and take it over."

Bonnie saw Xu Meifeng; her tailor shop was doing quite well and had a good reputation.

"Sister-in-law, it's alright. There are still three apprentices in the shop, and they're all ready to start working."

Xu Meifeng is no longer the timid and self-conscious young wife she once was. She's met more people, her business is doing well, she's made some money, and she's standing tall again.
