Gu Xuanyi and Xu Yi went first, while Liu Jiu and San Qi followed behind.
"Sister, I've inquired about what you mentioned."
"So, how's Xu Yi's family doing?"
Liu Jiu slowed down again, putting some distance between himself and the two people in front of him.
She had a fight with Xu Yi and his gang last time, and when she got back, she told her dad about it. Her dad only cared about whether she was hurt and didn't say anything else.
Liu Jiu was already fourteen years old. Over the years, through what she had seen and heard, and from the stories she had heard from Teacher Zhai, she knew that the military wasn't a safe haven either. Her uncle had now left the army, and apart from her uncle Gu Wei and her younger uncle, no one in her family could help her father.
Liu Jiu knew that her father was very capable, but as the saying goes, "a hero needs three helpers." Her father would not force her mother to associate with the families of those leaders and engage in any kind of "wife diplomacy." Her mother did not like it, and her father would absolutely not tolerate her mother suffering any grievances.
She wouldn't allow them to be bullied, to fight with the commander's children without fighting back, or to suffer injustice. She also wanted to help her father, and also for her own future; she wanted to join the army too.
Later, Xu Yi took the initiative to apologize and ease the tension. She felt that he was alright, although he had some minor flaws that could be ignored.
She asked Sanqi to find out about Xu Yi's grandfather, Political Commissar Xu's, reputation. If possible, she wouldn't mind Xu Yi getting close to them.
"Grandpa Xu Yi was a college student, and he was a very impressive person back then. His father and uncle both served in the military, although his uncle was not stationed in the military in Beijing."
Political Commissar Xu is an upright person, and he's quite fair in his dealings. I asked Dad about him indirectly, and he said he's a diligent worker with a good reputation.
Although Sanqi is eleven years old, she has many ideas and a quick mind. However, as two teenagers, all they can find out are superficial things.
"That's fine. We didn't plan to do anything. Since Xu Yi came up to us, we'll just teach him together."
In the evenings, you'll be in charge of teaching him English. If he improves, we'll have done a good job. In the future, Dad won't receive preferential treatment at work, but he shouldn't be made difficult either.
Liu Jiu planned it according to her own ideas and San Qi's plans, and she will tell her father about it later.
"That's true. Having more friends means having more options. Even if they're not friends, it's better than having enemies."
Sanqi has read a lot of books, both domestic and foreign, and has learned a lot of things that are not appropriate for his age.
"Let's go, let's get some exercise. Don't slack off. Even if you don't join the army, physical fitness is still very important."
Liu Jiu warned San Qi that she had been a bit lax these past two days, and she shouldn't think she didn't know.
"Okay, I'll take a break."
Sanqi stuck his tongue out at his sister and ran away.
"Liu Jiu, what are you two dawdling about? Hurry up!"
Gu Xuanyi was a little unaccustomed to seeing Liu Jiu so slow for the first time.
"Here he comes. I told Sanqi to get some proper training; he's been a bit lax."
Liu Jiu came over to play basketball with Gu Xuanyi and the others. She played quite well, but her height wasn't an advantage. Liang Qi and his sister were also there, and Liu Jiu joined in without saying hello.
After a game, everyone was sweating a lot, and it was almost time to go home. Liu Jiu called for everyone to go home, and Xu Yi followed behind Gu Xuanyi, so he had to keep up.
"What's going on with Xu Yi? Did he go home with the Gu siblings?"
Liang Yuan was quite curious. As long as Gu Yun Chu didn't have much contact with Brother Zi Jun, she wouldn't cause trouble.
"I don't know. His grades weren't good this time, so it will be difficult for him to get into high school. He might have to study with the Gu siblings, who are very good at it."
Ma Zijun inquired and learned that Gu Yun Chu and her classmates had excellent grades, even better than he had at the time.
"Xu Yi, are you really going to study with us? The exam is in just over a month. Aren't you worried that your grades won't improve?"
Before they get home, Liu Jiu needs to make things clear beforehand, lest he end up blaming them for his poor grades, which would be counterproductive.
"I'm not afraid. My worst subject right now is English. As long as I improve my English, I'm confident in my ability to improve my other subjects."
Xu Yi was also very serious, unlike his previous carefree attitude.
"Alright then, try it for one night. If you think it's okay, go home and explain it to your parents. If your grades don't improve in the end, don't blame us."
It is important that 69 was made clear beforehand.
"Okay, I'll get my family's permission tonight. Whatever the final result, I'll be grateful to you."
Xu Yi also understood Gu Yun Chu's underlying meaning. He was also personally trained by his grandfather, so he understood many things.
"Alright then, you'll start by learning from Sanqi for an hour."
“Learn from Sanqi, isn’t he a primary school student?”
Xu Yi was dumbfounded; he, a junior high school student, was learning English from an elementary school student.
“My son Sanqi can read original English books. He’s the best among the three of us from middle school. He also speaks French. You’re judging him by a sliver of a mirror.”
Liu Jiu wouldn't allow anyone to look down on her younger brother; San Qi is quite formidable.
Sanqi wouldn't have paid any attention to Xu Yi if he hadn't listened to his sister's plan; he's not very bright.
The four people went inside. When Bonnie saw that Xu Yi had really come back, she didn't say anything. She trusted Liu Jiu; her daughter was very capable.
Xu Yi and Sanqi went into his room. Gu Xuanyi wanted to ask Liu Jiu what she wanted, but she didn't give him the chance and went straight into the room.
Sanqi asked Xu Yi to sit down and started talking to him in English, but Xu Yi couldn't understand a word.
Sanqi then explained the content of the junior high school textbook to Xu Yi, who could understand a little, but not much.
Sanqi knew his background and began to plan his studies.
Sanqi's English is already very good; he knows all the high school courses. He thinks English is very simple—just memorize the vocabulary and grammar, and that's it. He thinks it's nothing compared to the profoundness of Chinese.
