"Grandpa, I have something to discuss with you."
As soon as Xu Yi entered the house, he went straight to his grandfather's study. His father was watching him intently, and if his grandmother hadn't stopped him, he wouldn't have been able to enter his grandfather's study smoothly.
"What is it? Speak."
Political Commissar Xu put down the book in his hand and looked at his eldest grandson, who was looking very serious.
"Grandpa, in the last month or so, I want to study with the Gu family's children. My main problem is my low English score. If I can improve my English by 10 or 20 points, I'll have no problem getting into high school."
Xu Yi was truly stunned by Gu Xuanming. His fluent English was even better than their English teacher's. Most importantly, listening to him speak English made it seem like English was just a paper tiger.
"Do they even have time to teach you? They also have to take the high school entrance exam."
Commissar Xu also knew that the Gu family's child had excellent academic performance, especially in English, where he ranked first in the entire school year.
“I don’t need Gu Yun Chu and Gu Xuan Yi to teach me. Gu Xuan Ming teaches me. He’s in fourth grade and has time.”
"Fourth grade? He can teach you, a eighth grader? Is he a prodigy?"
Brigade Commander Xu couldn't resist and pushed the door open to come in.
“Dad, don’t judge people by their appearance. Gu Xuanming is the best at English, he can read original books, and he can also speak French. He is extremely talented.”
He speaks English better than our English teacher. His English makes me feel that English isn't difficult or scary at all.
Xu Yi felt that he inherited his father's impulsive nature.
"Really? Commander Gu, are you trying to kill us all? The older kids are amazing, but the younger ones are even more amazing!"
Political Commissar Xu glanced at his son, frowned slightly, and thought, "Why is he so unreliable?"
"I won't say anymore, I won't say anymore, okay? Did they agree to teach you?"
Commander Xu was worried that his son was just being wishful, and that the other party was simply unwilling to teach him.
"Grandpa, Gu Yun Chu said he could have his younger brother teach me, but only if you agree. If my grades don't improve in the end, you can't blame them."
Xu Yi looked at his grandfather, and his grandfather understood the underlying meaning he was conveying.
"That's what the Gu family's daughter said?"
"Yes, that's what Gu Yun Chu said, I understand what she means."
Political Commissar Xu looked at his eldest grandson and felt much more at ease, knowing that everything he needed to understand was clear.
Political Commissar Xu also looked at his son seriously. His own son was not bad either. His envy of Commander Gu lessened a little, but he was still envious.
"Alright, go back to your studies. You've worked hard for over a month, and your starting point will be different from now on."
“I understand, Grandpa.”
Xu Yi left his grandfather's study and went back to his room to study. He needed to master the English taught by Gu Xuanming tonight.
In the study, Brigade Commander Xu and Political Commissar Xu sat facing each other, both deep in thought.
"Dad, what do you mean by 'Gu Jia'?"
"It's not about taking care of the family, it's Gu Yun Chu's idea. She wants to help her father. If Xu Yi's English grades improve, we'll appreciate it and be able to look out for each other at work in the future."
If the younger generation of the Gu family also applies to military academy in the future, having a relationship with Xu Yi like that would be a valuable connection. Gu Ye might not know about this, but I know him; he wouldn't let his wife and children do something like that. You can tell from how they chose their house—his wife never tried to curry favor with the commander's family.
The Xu family lived not far from the Commander's house, and Political Commissar Xu's wife was at home every day and understood everything.
"Gu Ye is extraordinary. He's only a few years older than me, but he's far ahead of me."
Commissar Xu was quite emotional. He was already considered quite good among his peers, but he couldn't compare to Gu Ye.
“You can’t compare to his experience, and you’ve done a good job too. Don’t compare yourself to him. Compare yourself to yourself and see if you’ve made any progress.”
The father and son talked for a while, then went back to their respective rooms.
"What did Xu Yi say? Where did he go after he finished eating?"
Commander Xu's wife was still waiting. She was also worried about her son, but at this point, she couldn't scold or beat him.
"I went to the Gu family to study."
Commander Xu briefly explained the child's decision. His father said he would personally discuss the child's studies with Division Commander Gu the next day.
"Oh, if we had a daughter like that, I'd be overjoyed. Maybe we should have our son do well so he can marry her as his daughter-in-law someday."
Xu Yi's mother thought it was feasible. They had known each other since childhood and knew each other inside and out. How wonderful!
"Stop it! The children are so young, why are you talking about such useless things? Look at the Liang family's girl, her eyes are glued to the Ma family's boy, and her grades aren't very good."
Commander Xu quickly dismissed his wife's idea. He was afraid that Division Commander Gu would come after him, as he could tell that Division Commander Gu doted on his daughter.
"I was just saying that the children are too young, and the marriage age has been changed now."
The couple exchanged a few words and then prepared to go to sleep.
The next day after arriving at work, Political Commissar Xu made a special trip to Gu Ye's office to personally express his gratitude, thanking his son for helping Xu Yi learn English.
"Gu Ye, thank you so much. No matter how well Xu Yi learns, I still have to say thank you."
Political Commissar Xu explained it clearly, and Gu Ye understood as well.
“If the children are playing together and they feel good about it, then we parents should just support them. They're all grown up now, and they know what they're doing.”
Gu Ye also explained his meaning, and the two exchanged a smile, both understanding each other.
From then on, Xu Yi spent every day with Liu Jiu and the others, exercising together in the morning and evening, and then going to Gu Jia's house to study English with San Qi. Sometimes, Liu Jiu and the others would also discuss other subjects together. Xu Yi's science grades were quite good, especially recently, as he was working hard to improve.
The others didn't know when Xu Yi had become so close to the Gu family's children, almost inseparable from them.
