Chapter 45 The Naughty Child

Bonnie is now exercising with Gu Ye again in the mornings. She missed a while in Beijing, and her muscles are a bit tight.

The two sparred for a while, worked up a sweat, and felt their pores open up, which felt great.

After having breakfast at the cafeteria and returning home, Gu Ye washed up and went to work.

Gu Ye was wearing a white top and blue pants today, dressed in a uniform, which made him look particularly ascetic.

Bonnie loves this white and blue navy uniform; it's particularly eye-catching, especially the women's version, and it suits her very well!

Bonnie quickly took a few more glances; it was about to turn the color of a gray squirrel's fur, and every glance was precious!

What's with that expression?

"Isn't it because your outfit is so eye-catching? I'm taking a second look, because once you leave for work, I won't be able to see you anymore, what a pity!"

Bonnie couldn't tell the truth either; you won't be able to wear these clothes for more than a few days, and you'll soon be replacing them with squirrel fur clothes.

Gu Ye felt that Bonnie wasn't telling the truth, but her wide, round eyes didn't seem like she was lying. "Oh well, I won't argue with her," Gu Ye thought, "I'll be late soon." He turned and left.

Bonnie stuck out her tongue, secretly relieved. Oh my god, she finally passed the test.

This elite soldier is really hard to fool; he sees right through you if you're not careful!

Bonnie had nothing to do. After washing the clothes, she tidied up the yard again. Once the temperature rises a bit more, she can plant vegetables.

I had just entered the house, picked up my water glass, and hadn't even taken a sip when I heard loud shouts coming from outside the yard.

"Sister Zhang, what's going on? Why is everyone running forward?"

Bonnie didn't drink any water, put down her enamel mug and ran out, where she ran into Aunt Zhang from next door.

"I don't know either. I was washing clothes in the yard when I heard crying and shouting and ran out to see what was going on."

"I'll go take a look too, Sister Zhang, are you coming?"

Bonnie is free and wanted to go check if there was anything she could help with.

"Let's go then, I'll go take a look too. I'll leave after I lock the door."

The two locked the door and, following the sound of crying, ran with the crowd.

When Bonnie and her friend arrived, a large crowd had already gathered, with children crying and adults shouting, creating a chaotic and noisy scene.

What happened?

Sister Zhang asked a military wife she knew who was standing next to her.

"The child was naughty and climbed up a tree, fell down and got hurt. It seems like he was seriously injured. The child's mother just came over."

Upon hearing this, Bonnie subconsciously looked up and saw that there really was a tall tree several meters high in front of the wall.

Falling from such a tall tree, if you land on your legs, it's better to just break a bone. But if you land on your head, you'll probably get a concussion!

The children in the circle are still crying, and the adults are crying too. Half a day has passed, and no one has taken the children to the hospital.

Bonnie forcefully pushed through the crowd, clearing a path as she walked inside, with Aunt Zhang following closely behind.

Two children were lying on the ground. The one who was crying had an unnaturally bent leg, which was obviously broken.

The other one was silent, with no obvious external injuries to its arms or legs, but its eyes were tightly closed and its complexion was not good; it had hit its head.

"Stop crying, everyone! Where are the child's family? Get him to the hospital right away!"

"I, I am, what should I do? My child cries out in pain as soon as it's touched."

The woman speaking was in her twenties, and her child looked to be only six or seven years old; it was unclear why the child wasn't attending school.

"Xiao Bao, wake up, wake up!"

The woman on the other side looked at the child who couldn't be woken up, broke down in tears, and reached out to shake the child's body, trying to wake him.

"Don't shake him, he might have hit his head."

Bonnie quickly stopped her, saying that if they kept shaking like that, things would get out of hand.

"Everyone, spread out and don't crowd around. If you live nearby, help find two planks and a rope. If you have a stroller, bring it over. Don't hold the child." Bonnie knew some first aid knowledge; you can't hold a patient with a fracture.

Bonnie shouted, and the crowd stirred. "Come on, planks and ropes!"

A woman in her thirties handed Bonnie two planks and a rope.

Bonnie checked the child's leg and thankfully, there was no extensive bleeding.

Secure the child's injured leg with two wooden boards and tie it with a rope.

The child was crying loudly; it really hurt!

"The car is here, make way, the car is here."

Another woman, covered in sweat, pushed over a flatbed cart.

Is this okay?

Bonnie looked at it; it was a very spacious flatbed cart, big enough to fit two children.

"Okay, sure."

Bonnie gently picked up the baby who was crying uncontrollably and placed him on the flatbed cart, then picked up the unconscious baby as well.

“I’ll push the cart; I often push carts like this.”

A sturdy woman standing nearby volunteered; she had experience.

"Okay, sister-in-law, try to avoid bumpy rides."

Bonnie had never pushed a unicycle like this before and was afraid of tipping over, so she didn't try to be brave.

Bonnie and the children's mother followed behind, walking together towards the clinic.

Fortunately, there was a doctor in the family compound who took over the care of Bao Ni, and with the help of her familiar sister-in-law, she was able to go home.

That evening, Gu Ye returned home, and Bao Ni told him about it.

"It's too dangerous, why isn't the child going to school?"

There are schools on the island, ranging from primary to junior high school.

"Some families feel that the child is still young and that delaying enrollment by two years can save some money."

Bonnie didn't say anything; people in this era were used to tightening their belts.

"Alright, this isn't just a matter for one or two families. The general situation is what it is, and we have limited power to change anything!" It's not that Gu Ye is cold-blooded, it's just that there are too many similar situations across the country, and there are many people who don't have enough to eat.

"I know, I just feel a little sad, but it's okay, I'll feel better after a while."

The next day, Bonnie heard from her neighbor, Aunt Huang, that the child's fractured leg had been set and he was recovering well without any lasting effects.

The child who was in a coma later woke up. The doctor said he had hit his head and suffered a concussion, which was quite serious. He needed to be hospitalized for observation for a few days.

Fortunately, the two children escaped unharmed. Although they suffered some hardship, they were not in mortal danger and were not left with any disabilities. It was a stroke of good luck amidst misfortune.

Aunt Huang was also a little scared. Her children were at the age where they were mischievous and unruly. They would run away and disappear in the blink of an eye. She was afraid they would run to the beach and be swept away by the waves; she was afraid they would run into the mountains and encounter danger. Her heart was always on edge.

Although children are now raised in a more relaxed manner, it's not like they're immune to danger.

The island has mountains and water, but the children are very curious and unaware of the dangers, not knowing when they might be in peril.

Raising children is never easy, regardless of the era; it requires parents to invest time, energy, and patience.

Bonnie doesn't know what she would be like if she became a mother. Would she be like Lao Jiang, disregarding her child's feelings and imposing her own will on the child? Or would she be like most mothers, unable to resist hitting and scolding her child when angry, only to regret it after calming down?

Sigh, it's tough!

"Mom, my brother hit me, ah...waaaah..." The children from the neighbor's house were fighting, and the crying made Bonnie lose all interest in anything else.

Child, you should come later!
