Chapter 454 Uncle Lin's Dilemma

Bonnie goes to the secret base every other day. This time, she doesn't plan to sell the seafood. Instead, she'll dry more and bring it back to Beijing. It would make a nice gift for holidays.

Bonnie's parents, third uncle and aunt, and her aunt all came to help dry the seafood Bonnie brought back. Her aunt, in particular, was very enthusiastic; she felt indebted to Bonnie but hadn't had a chance to repay her.

Bonnie finally came back for a visit, and she needed to dry some seafood. She had to put in extra effort to make herself feel better.

Also, her son, Lin Feng, is about to go to Beijing to study. Although the acceptance letter hasn't arrived yet, the teacher said there shouldn't be any surprises. Once he gets to Beijing, he'll be unfamiliar with the city and people, and he'll need Bao Ni's help to look after him if anything happens.

Aunt Bao Ni felt the same way. Her son, Lin Hui, was able to join the army thanks to Bao Ni. Now that he's transferred to the police force, he has a secure job, and his wife and children are doing well. How could she not be grateful to Bao Ni?

With so many helpers, Bonnie made four or five trips to the secret base, picking out most of the large seafood, and leaving the rest for breeding.

Bonnie was busy drying seafood, while Liu Jiu and the others practiced diving with Lin Bo, getting tanned as dark as potatoes. Even though Sanqi applied aloe vera and face cream every day, she couldn't escape getting a tan.

He didn't really want to go diving, but with Liu Jiu watching, he didn't dare disobey. His sister said it was a skill for escaping, and no matter how long it was used, it might be a lifesaver if he really encountered trouble in the future.

In the mornings, Liu Jiu and San Qi tutor Lin Bo, Lin Feng, Er Bao, Lin Mu, and others in English, which also serves as a form of self-study. In the afternoons, Lin Bo takes them to the beach to practice scuba diving.

Bao Ni had previously developed seaweed farming, which Lin Yu and his team had continued to do, expanding the scale considerably and acquiring dozens of sets of diving equipment. This time, Lin Bo and his team borrowed the equipment from his older brother, Lin Yu.

Lin Yu is living a peaceful life now. Da Bao has been admitted to a junior college and will be assigned a job in the future, so he doesn't have to worry too much about it.

Erbao's grades seem to be going well so far, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, he should be able to get into a good school. My wife's daughter is also great; she has a good personality, does well in her studies, and even helps out with chores alongside Erbao and the others.

Their family lived a carefree life, with their parents by their side, making them feel at ease. He had done many bad things in the past, which strained his relationship with Bonnie, and he felt guilty, but there was nothing he could do about it.

Fortunately, his wife is a good person. Every year, she sends Bonnie some seafood, especially the seaweed she grows herself. She always packs it up nicely before sending it to her.

When you reach middle age, having parents, a wife, and children is a good life.

Bonnie no longer needs to go to the secret base; she can now visit some old friends.

Most of Zhang's sisters-in-law no longer live on the island. Some moved to other places with their husbands' job transfers, while others returned to their hometowns after being demobilized. The only people Bao Ni still knows are Sister-in-law Ya Ru and Xiao Haiyan.

"Bonnie, it's been a long time! You look radiant, you must be doing well!"

Sister-in-law Yaru looks a bit older than her age, but she's in great spirits and much more cheerful.

"She's doing well. My sister-in-law looks to be in good spirits. What about the children?"

"Everything is fine. My family has been exonerated. Although they are no longer here, I feel much better. I went back to visit my parents' graves and returned some of their property. It wasn't much, but it's something to remember them by. My eldest son is married now. He was transferred to an island base last year, and his wife is pregnant. I'm going to be a grandmother soon."

The second child passed the entrance exam for a vocational school, graduated, and became a primary school teacher in the city. She just got married this year. Her husband is also a teacher, and the two of them teach at the same school. Her parents-in-law are kind people, and knowing that she is the child of a martyr, they feel sorry for her.

The third son took the college entrance exam this year, but his results weren't good. He doesn't want to study anymore and plans to enlist in the army this fall. Because of his father's connections, he passed the physical exam, so there shouldn't be any problems..."

Sister-in-law Yaru and Bao Ni talked about what had happened over the years. Back then, thanks to the help of the military leaders and Bao Ni's father, she was able to settle down on the island and avoid being tormented by her in-laws.

"Sister-in-law, the hard times are over, and things will get better and better. How is Xiao Haiyan doing?"

Bonnie knew that Haiyan had married Lin Hai, the grandson of her third grandfather. That guy had passed the exam to become a diver and did a good job.

“She’s doing well. In the spring, her husband was transferred to another unit, and she went with him.”

Bonnie didn't know anything about this; she only knew that Lin Hai was doing well in the army.

"What about his two younger brothers? How are they?"

Bonnie still remembers the scene when Haiyan brought her two dark-skinned, thin younger brothers to the island.

"One is in the army, and the other went to work in a factory. They can both support themselves. Haiyan supported both of her younger brothers until they graduated from junior high school. The two boys are also very kind and treat Haiyan very well."

Ya Ru also raised several children on her own, and she understood the hardships better than anyone else.

"That's good. Things will get better eventually."

Bonnie knew that people of this era were very hardworking, but she had never experienced firsthand what it meant to be able to endure hardship. They were a microcosm of a generation, representing the lives of this generation.

After catching up, Bonnie left the local specialties she had brought from Beijing and went home.

"Bonnie, why are you only just getting back? Your uncle has been talking about you the whole time. Didn't you sneeze even a few times?"

Bonnie looked at her uncle in the yard. He was in his forties but looked younger than his actual age. He had lost a lot of weight and looked quite energetic.

"No, it seems your repetition skills aren't good enough."

Bonnie is closer to her uncle and speaks to him more casually.
