Chapter 488 Gu Ze's Plan

After dinner, the children went inside to study. Bonnie and Aunt Gu tidied up the table together and chatted about some recent gossip.

Bonnie had a lot to share with Sister-in-law Gu, and Sister-in-law Gu had just as much to say to Bonnie. The two chattered away in the kitchen. Sister Xiang was truly envious; the two sisters-in-law got along even better than blood sisters.

In the study, Gu Ye and his elder brother brewed a pot of tea and were talking about something.

"Brother, what are your plans? How long do you intend to stay in the south, and when do you plan to return to Beijing?"

"I won't be coming back for now, Gu Ye. The national policy has changed, and everything is now centered on economic development. Returning to Beijing is the ultimate goal, but I'm only in my forties, and my age and experience are not an advantage."

Taking advantage of the favorable situation, I plan to gain experience outside for eight to ten years. The south is changing rapidly, transforming every day, and I want to accomplish something meaningful, leaving my mark on history.

Gu Ze took a sip of tea; he had a clear plan for his career.

"Brother, although I don't understand your work very well, I know that you don't do anything on a whim or on a whim. You can do what you want to do with peace of mind. I'll take care of things here in Beijing."

Just like you've allowed me the freedom to roam the world for the past decade or so, this time, it's your turn to realize your ambitions. We'll do our best to do things that benefit the country and live up to Mom's teachings.

Also, brother, the situation in the south is complicated. Be careful; the temptations are great, so no one should be careless.

Gu Ye doesn't have the same ambition as his brother, and he's content with his current situation. However, he supports his brother's desire to make a name for himself.

“I know, and I’ve already talked to your sister-in-law about this. Our family isn’t short of money, and we’ll stick to our principles. As for the rest, your brother knows what he’s doing. If you want your career to go far, you have to be clean and have no stains on your record.”

Gu Ze has seen too much over the years. No matter when, it's all for naught if you can't resist temptation.

"Okay, brother, you know what you're doing. I'll do my job in Beijing step by step and won't be reckless. The children are growing up, and Bonnie is taking good care of them. Like I said, meeting Bonnie is the luckiest thing that ever happened to me."

After Gu Ye finished speaking, a happy smile appeared on his face.

"Yes, you are lucky. Bonnie not only rescued you, but also changed the fate of both our families."

If it weren't for Bonnie, I don't know if I would have ever seen you get married and have children, or if you would have had two outstanding kids, Liu Jiu and San Qi.

Without Bonnie, your sister-in-law and I wouldn't have been able to go south with peace of mind. Xuanyu and Xuanyi are being well taken care of by their second aunt. Especially Xuanyi, who can't handle hardship, but with Liujiu's influence, he's changed a lot.

Xuanyu, being the eldest brother, puts a lot of pressure on himself. He's liked Baoni since childhood, and in recent years, his personality has changed a lot; he's no longer the type to keep things to himself.

Gu Ze spoke from the heart; he had lived those years cautiously and with all his might. They had no powerful backers; everything depended on themselves and the connections left by his mother. His grandfather had many grandsons besides himself, so the resources available to him were limited.

Because he was busy with work, he didn't actually spend much time with his three children. Xuanyu was the eldest, so he was able to teach him more, but he barely paid attention to Xuanyi, and the children grew up on their own.

The younger one is better off. The environment has improved, so he doesn't have to worry about safety every day, which allows him to focus more on safety.

Xuan Yi was pampered for those few years, and Jia Qi had never experienced hardship, so she didn't think there was anything wrong with it.

Later, he asked to stay in Beijing. Unexpectedly, Liu Jiu and the others took Xuan Yi to exercise in the morning. This kid has changed a lot. Especially today, when he said he wanted to become a fashion designer, his eyes were shining.

Today, he made his own choice. In the future, no matter what the outcome, he made his own choice and will not regret it.

"Yes, my Bonnie is excellent. Brother, I'm serious, among all the children, Bonnie treats them all equally, without any bias. If they do something wrong, they are punished the same way; if they do something well, they are rewarded the same way. Not everyone can do that."

I don't work as hard as I used to, and I'm afraid of death now. I promised Bonnie I'd stay alive so that when I retire, I could take her all over the beautiful landscapes of our country.

Gu Ze looked at Gu Ye. His younger brother's appearance hadn't changed much; not even a few more wrinkles had appeared, and his figure was still upright. However, he could sense that his mindset had changed. He was no longer tense; his whole being was relaxed. That kind of natural relaxation wasn't relaxation for the sake of relaxation.

He didn't think he could achieve that state. Living on edge for years, he couldn't fully relax. However, he had gotten used to it.

The conversation in the study continued, with Gu Ze occasionally enduring Gu Ye's praise of Bao Ni. If she weren't his younger brother, he would have kicked her out long ago.

In the kitchen, Sister Xiang went back to her room, while Bao Ni and Sister-in-law Gu ate snacks, shared gossip, and occasionally took a sip of tea.

"Baoni, can people live in a courtyard house?"

After chatting about gossip, Sister-in-law Gu finally remembered the important matter.

"It's habitable. My family lives here. My parents came to visit before, and we stayed there for a few months. What's wrong? Is there something you need?"

“Your older brother said that he came back for a meeting and also to see some friends. It’s inconvenient to go in and out of the compound and it would have a bad influence, so he was thinking of staying in a courtyard house, which is not far away.”

Bonnie understood immediately. Brother Gu had been promoted again before the new year, making him equivalent to a high-ranking official in ancient times, which would mean he would have more social interactions.
