Chapter 491 The Exam Begins

Throughout June, Liu Jiu and Gu Xuanyi were engrossed in their studies. Apart from morning exercises, Gu Xuanyi basically didn't participate in any other forms of exercise.

Liu Jiu was alright. When Mu Nanfang was explaining problems to her, if she got tired of studying, the two of them would go to the training ground to practice or run three kilometers.

As time went by, June came to an end, and July arrived.

With the college entrance exam approaching, Liu Jiu stopped doing those advanced questions, and Mu Nanfang also finished his teaching career and started preparing for his own final exams.

I was lucky this year; the first day of the college entrance exam was cloudy and not too hot.

"Six-Nine, Xuanyi, have you brought everything? Check your admission ticket, pen, water bottle, toilet paper..."

In the morning, before leaving home, Bonnie asked again, feeling more anxious than her two children.

"Mom, we've brought everything. Don't be nervous. We know what we're doing. Just wait for us to come out."

Liu Jiu hugged her mother to comfort her.

Gu Ye didn't go to work either. He sent the two children into the examination hall before he went to work.

Outside the examination hall, many familiar faces were there, all there to see their children off to the exam. In this day and age, taking the college entrance exam is truly an opportunity to change one's social standing. It leads to job assignments, housing allocations, and urban residency...

"God bless my son and may everything go smoothly for him, and may he get a few more points on his test!"

"I hope the questions aren't too difficult; they're all questions my daughter has done before!"

"Let there be more wind and rain, so the children can stay cooler and suffer less."

...

Every parent expressed their wish that their child would achieve great success.

"Honey, let's go home and wait, it's too hot."

"Okay, you go to work first. I'll stand here for a bit and then go home to prepare lunch with Sister Xiang."

Bonnie waved to Gu Ye, waited a while longer, heard the bell, and went home with Sanqi.

The phone rang as soon as I stepped inside the house.

“It must be your aunt.” Bonnie said, picking up the phone.

"Hello, is this Bonnie?" came Gu Dasao's voice from the phone.

"Sister-in-law, it's me. I just came in. If I had come a minute earlier, I wouldn't have been back yet. Everything is fine. I waited until the preparatory bell rang before coming back. The weather is kind to us today. It's cloudy outside. It would be even better if it rained a little."

“That’s good. I didn’t sleep much last night, and neither did your older brother. We tossed and turned, feeling uneasy. This is the most crucial step in the child’s life, and we’re not here to help.”

Sister-in-law Gu felt apologetic, but also grateful to Bao Ni.

"They're both in good shape. They've put in their utmost effort for the last month, so there shouldn't be any problems. Xuan Yi is really impressive; he hasn't missed a single morning workout and has been consistently training with Liu Jiu San Qi."

Bao Ni told Gu Da Sao about the child's condition. As a mother herself, she understood how the child felt.

The two talked for a long time. After hanging up the phone, Bonnie went to the kitchen to prepare a meal with Sister Xiang.

"Bonnie, I'll make some poached chicken for lunch. It's not greasy and it'll keep you full. I've also made some mung bean soup. Even though it's cloudy, it's still quite hot, so this will help prevent heatstroke..."

Sister Xiang described the dishes she had prepared, and Bonnie thought they were great.

"Sister Xiang, it's great. Tell me what I can do."

The two of them were busy in the kitchen, discussing things together. Gu Sanqi was on summer vacation and was engrossed in reading a novel, completely immersed in the world of martial arts, excitedly guessing who would become the leader of the martial arts world.

Bonnie was in the kitchen, glancing outside every now and then, hoping the sun wouldn't come out. She also kept checking the time; she had to pick up her child from the exam hall soon.

"Mom, it's time. Let's go pick up my sister and brother."

Sanqi came downstairs and called out. Baoni had just taken off her apron and was about to walk out.

Let's go.

Outside the exam hall, there weren't as many people as in the morning; most parents were still on their way to work. Bonnie was once again grateful that she had chosen this job at the school—it offered so much free time!

"Ringling..."

Bonnie heard the bell ring; the exam was over, and the children were handing in their papers.

A few minutes later, some of the children came out, and her family's sixth child was walking in front.

"Sis, we're here. Are you thirsty? Do you have any water?"

"With water, I'm not thirsty, everything is going well."

Liu Jiu is in great condition and shows no signs of fatigue.

"Xuanyi, over here."

Bonnie saw Xuan Yi not far away and quickly called out to him a few times.

"Second Aunt, I'm hungry."

"Come on, let's go home quickly. Aunt Xiang made some delicious food, and Grandpa also brought you some treats."

Bonnie didn't expect her uncle to remember. Before she left, her aunt brought her a basket with lots of food, all of which her uncle had just made. They were not greasy and were light and delicious.

"Great! I don't know if it's because I was too focused, but I feel hungry really fast."

Gu Xuanyi didn't have Liu Jiu's composure and was a little nervous at first.

"Let's go home for dinner. We can take a nap after dinner, since we have another subject this afternoon."

The lunch dishes were really good, and the children ate quite a lot.

"Xuanyi, call your mom. She's waiting too. Just say a few words and get some sleep."

"Understood, Second Aunt."

Gu Xuanyi went to the living room to call his mother. Liu Jiu moved around a bit and went upstairs to rest.

"Yes, it went smoothly, don't worry. I just finished eating, I'm going to take a nap, we'll talk more tonight."

Gu Xuanyi hung up the phone and went upstairs.

They endured this for two days until the last exam was over, at which point Liu Jiu and Xuan Yi both breathed a sigh of relief.

"Sanqi, give me a copy of the novel. My mom sent the whole set over. I'm going to read it all this summer."
