Chapter 50 The Joy of Beachcombing

"Auntie, let's go beachcombing!"

Bonnie had just finished feeding the chickens when she heard the little pine tree outside the yard calling to her.

"Come in quickly, it's still early. We can't go beachcombing until after nine o'clock."

“There’s still time to distinguish, right? After breakfast, Bai Song was rushing me in a hurry, afraid that we wouldn’t have enough time.” Zhao Yuan was so anxious because of her son’s urging that she ran out of the house without even tidying it up.

"It's still early, it's only around eight o'clock, it'll be more than an hour. Zhao Yuan, if you have something to do, go ahead and do it. Leave the little pine tree at my house, we'll go around nine o'clock, otherwise the seawater will be too cold."

"Bai Song, how about you play at your aunt's house for a while? Mom will come over after she finishes tidying up the house at home."

"Okay, Mom, hurry up, or they'll all be gone."

"Okay, you brat, always rushing me." Zhao Yuan turned and went home, first tidying up the house.

"Little pine tree, do you want to see your aunt's chicks?"

"Live chicks? Where are they? I want to see them."

Bai Song had never seen a live chick before. He was very interested and followed Aunt Bonnie over.

"Coo coo...cluck cluck..."

"Oh dear, the chick has laid an egg! Little pine tree, would you like to collect the eggs?"

When Bonnie heard the clucking of the hen, she knew that one of the chicks had finished laying an egg.

"Has the chick laid an egg? Where? Where? Let me see."

The children were interested in all of this. Bai Song ran over and saw five clucking chicks under the chicken coop.

"There it is, can you see it? It's white and round."

"I saw it, I saw it, I went to pick it up."

The little pine tree was quite bold; it opened the door and went straight into the chicken coop, heading straight for the eggs.

"Wow, Auntie, it's still warm!" The little guy ran to Bonnie with the eggs in his hands.

"It really is warm. Little pine tree, would you like to cook it and eat it?"

"Is it okay? Mom said we can't just eat food from other people's houses."

"Okay, Auntie's doesn't count as someone else's. Come on, let's throw it in the pot and cook it."

Bonnie and the little one washed the eggs and put them in a pot to boil.

When Zhao Yuan arrived at Bao Ni's house again, she saw the two of them peeling eggs in the yard.

"Mom, I picked up these eggs from the chicken coop. They were just laid by the little hen. My aunt said we should cook them."

"Bonnie, you spoil him too much. He just finished breakfast."

Zhao Yuan was a little embarrassed, as eggs are a precious commodity in any family.

"It's alright, these are eggs that the little pine tree collected itself. You can also raise a few chickens in the yard, that way it will be more convenient to eat eggs."

"Then I'll raise a few chickens too. Where can I buy chicks?"

Zhao Yuan has never raised chickens before, nor has she ever been in contact with them, so she really doesn't know anything about them.

"Go ask my grandma at noon. The chickens in my house were brought back by my grandma."

The little pine tree thought today's eggs smelled especially good, better than any it had ever eaten before.

After the little guy finished eating, the group of people carried buckets and shovels and headed to the beach to collect seafood.

"Wow, Auntie, the sea is so big, and there are so many people!"

"See those little holes in the sand, bubbling away? You can dig right down there and you'll find razor clams. Let's start looking now."

Because she has Little Pine Tree with her, Bonnie doesn't plan to go to the rocky outcrop today. The water there is quite deep, and she's worried that Little Pine Tree might accidentally encounter danger.

"Wow, a crab! It's going to pinch me!"

I found a seashell.

"Auntie, look at this! It has so many claws!"

...

The beach was filled with the delightful sounds emanating from the small pine trees.

"Whose child is this? They're so funny."

"Yes, they are very lively."

The women who were gathering seafood nearby also chimed in after hearing what the little pine tree said.

Bonnie greeted her sisters-in-law and then led Zhao Yuan on a continued search for seafood.

There was quite a lot of seafood today. Bonnie found two octopuses, three crabs, and dug up half a bucket of razor clams.

It was Zhao Yuan's first time going to the beach, and she was a little surprised and a little scared. She felt like something was going to crawl onto her feet, so she was hesitant to take a step and ended up falling flat on her face.

After searching for more than an hour, Bao Ni saw that Zhao Yuan and the child were a little tired, so she made arrangements to go back.

"Auntie, when can we come again next time?" The little guy was tired, but he was still a little reluctant to leave.

"Come back in a few days. We live by the sea, so there will be plenty of opportunities."

"Alright, goodbye, ocean!"

Back at the family compound, everyone went home to wash up. Bao Ni took Zhao Yuan and Xiao Songshu to the island team.

"Zhao Yuan, little pine tree, come in. This is my parents' home."

After a woman gets married, her parents' home becomes her parents' home, and it is no longer her own home.

"Grandma, I brought some friends over to visit. Please cook something nice for us at noon."

"Auntie, you're back! Did you miss Da Bao?"

Comrade Da Bao rushed out first, followed slowly by Grandma.

"Comrade Lin Haiyang, let me introduce you to a friend. This is Comrade Bai Song. Please get to know each other."

Bonnie introduced the children to the area and told them to go play there.

The two little ones, who were very familiar with each other, started playing together in no time. Da Bao even took out his treasured toys to play with Bai Song.

"Hello, Grandma, I'm Zhao Yuan, Bao Ni's friend." Zhao Yuan greeted Grandma and presented her with the gift she had brought.

"Welcome, welcome! From now on, make yourself at home. Come whenever you want," Grandma said warmly, patting Zhao Yuan's hand.
