I don't know if Gu Ye knows that his older brother is coming back. He probably doesn't, otherwise he would have told me.
Bonnie tidied up the house and sat on the sofa to catch her breath. Her parents said they would come over after the anniversary of her grandparents' death, when her third uncle and aunt would have finished planting, and they would come together.
Bonnie counted on her fingers and realized it would only be a few months. Great, her parents were finally coming.
When Gu Ye returned in the evening, Bao Ni had already prepared dinner.
"Wife, what do you want to eat?"
"I heated up the steamed rice and the fried food my aunt made earlier. We need to eat them quickly, otherwise they won't taste good."
"That's true, the flavor changes over time. By the way, my older brother called me this morning and said he'll be transferred back in May. My sister-in-law and the children are coming back together to tidy up the courtyard house first. They also need to transfer Xuanhao to another school. Once the formalities are completed, he'll be back soon."
"Sixty-nine also mentioned some things this morning. Don't my older brother and the others live in the government's family compound?"
Bonnie felt that Brother Gu's position couldn't be low, and there was no way he wouldn't own a house.
"We live in the family compound, but we'll still be using the courtyard house quite often. My sister-in-law should take good care of it when she comes back, as my brother might need it for some social obligations in the future."
"Isn't it a bad thing to exchange favors and gifts?"
Bonnie was startled, truly afraid that Brother Gu had done something bad. After all, the south had changed a lot, and it was so close to Hong Kong.
"What nonsense are you thinking? After my brother came back, his position was almost at the level of mayor. He had a lot of responsibility and power. How could he not have some connections of his own?"
Bonnie understood. Don't all high-ranking officials have their own cronies? The inconvenience of coming and going in and out of the government compound can sometimes give those with ulterior motives an excuse to cause trouble.
"Sigh, it's a good thing you don't have to go into politics, otherwise I'm afraid I'll be a burden to you."
"No, even though you're not good at those things, you definitely won't hold us back. My wife is amazing."
Bonnie was delighted. Her brother genuinely thought she was wonderful, wonderful in every way. She also thought her brother was wonderful, wonderful in every way.
