Bonnie's parents are in their sixties, but fortunately they are in good health. They traveled by train all the way and were still walking when they got off.
"Father, Mother, over here!"
Bonnie waved and ran towards her parents, her voice filled with excitement.
Looking at Bao Ni like this, Gu Ye felt a warm glow in his heart. It was wonderful; he was about to experience the happiness of having his parents at home.
"Father, Mother, give me the things."
Gu Ye strode up to Bao Ni and took the things from their hands.
"Third Uncle, Third Aunt, welcome."
Gu Ye didn't forget his third uncle and aunt who had come from afar, and quickly greeted them as well.
Bonnie took the luggage from her third uncle and aunt. Her younger uncle was still young, so he could carry it himself; he didn't have much stuff.
Gu Ye drove himself in a military jeep, which can hold quite a lot. They don't check for overloading anymore, so everyone squeezed in and managed to get a seat.
Because his father-in-law was in the car, Gu Ye drove relatively smoothly and arrived without incident.
"Father, Mother, Third Uncle, Third Aunt, please go inside and rest. I have to go back to the army. See you tonight."
"Go ahead and get busy. We have Bonnie here. Don't keep delaying your work."
Bonnie's dad told Gu Ye to hurry up and go to work, saying there was no need to pick him up, as it wouldn't be good to delay his work.
Gu Ye drove away. Bao Ni told her parents and her third uncle and aunt to rest, take a shower later, and go to her uncle's restaurant for dinner that night.
Bonnie had already emptied the study on the first floor, put in a big bed, and equipped it with a wardrobe.
“Bonnie, your third uncle and I will not be staying here anymore. We will be staying at your youngest uncle’s place.”
“Go to my uncle’s place? He runs a restaurant and is always busy. Why not stay here? There’s room, and several rooms upstairs.”
"No, there were soldiers on guard at the entrance when we came in just now, making it too inconvenient to go in and out."
"Why don't you go stay in a courtyard house? It's spacious there and you don't have to be checked."
Bonnie didn't expect that her third uncle and aunt would feel uncomfortable or uncomfortable at the gate.
“Bonnie, let’s go to your uncle’s place. We can help out, though. His restaurant is doing well, and they’re short-staffed. He said if we’re bored here, we can go help out at his place. He needs to hire temporary workers anyway.”
We're just here to see what's going on, are we really going to travel around? Not to mention you all have jobs, even your parents can't go out every day! I was thinking, if your uncle and his family are really short-handed, your aunt and I can help them for a while, and then go back for the autumn harvest.
This way, we brothers can get together again. Ever since your uncle went to work off the island, we haven't had many chances to see each other.
Uncle Bonnie also had his own thoughts. If possible, he was thinking of working for a while to earn some money and save some for himself and his wife in case of emergency.
His three sons all have formal jobs, but they also have families to support and their lives are not easy. They don't want to be a burden on anyone.
There's not much land on the island, so their income is limited throughout the year. He's getting old and can't go fishing at sea anymore, so it would be good if he could do some work here.
"Let your third uncle go if he wants to. It's not far from here, is it?"
Bonnie's father understood what his younger brother was thinking. They didn't want to be a burden on their sons and wanted to save as much money as possible while they still had the strength so that they wouldn't have to ask their sons for money when they couldn't earn it anymore.
"Alright then, Uncle and Aunt, go and give it a try. If you don't like it, you can come back to live here or go to live in the courtyard house."
Bonnie didn't quite understand, but since her father had spoken, she listened to him.
Bonnie taught her mother and aunt how to use the water heater, since they would be using it frequently in the future.
In the bathroom on the first floor, Bonnie also taught her father how to use the water heater.
"This thing is really great. We can take a bath at home. We're lucky to be born in such a good time. We must live well and live a few more years so we can see more things in the future."
While taking a bath, Aunt Bao Ni sighed, saying that she wasn't as lucky as her sister-in-law, who had a filial and capable daughter, and that she would have to work for a few more years.
"Brother, if Zhiqiang doesn't need anyone, let's wander around for a few days and see if there are any other jobs. If we can do them, we can work for a while and save some money. Otherwise, in a couple of years, there won't be anyone willing to hire us."
Don't you have any savings?
"What savings do you have? You know how we are on this island. We only have so little income throughout the year. How much money can we possibly save?"
Thanks to Bonnie, the eldest son joined the army early and later married and had children there, so we didn't have to spend much money. The second and third sons' weddings were much harder; we didn't buy all the dowry and the three major items (bride price, wedding favors, and wedding gifts), but it wasn't too bad.
After our three sons got married, we divided the land among our households. That little bit of land was just enough for food and drink; we couldn't save much money. Lin Hui and the others all had jobs, but they also had many expenses.
Children these days aren't like we were back then, they weren't raised so freely. Now the focus is on academics, and there's no point in learning any extracurricular activities. It just costs money. They have several children and are already struggling to support themselves; I don't want to be a burden on them.
Throughout history, raising children has never been difficult for parents, but supporting parents has been much harder for children. I don't want to end up having to ask my sons for money.
Uncle Bao Ni got married and had children early. Lin Hui and Lin Tao are both 42 years old, while he is 63. He really can't work for many more years.
"If you've thought it through, then it's fine. With Zhiqiang looking after you here, it shouldn't be difficult to earn money by working. If Zhiqiang isn't an option, then ask Bonnie to see if there are any jobs available nearby."
Bonnie's dad patted his younger brother on the shoulder. Parents are always thinking about their children!
