1985 passed, 1986 passed, and time slipped into 1987.
In the past two years, nothing major has happened, and not many minor issues either. Bonnie's parents are in good health, and her third uncle and aunt have returned to the island; they feel nowhere is as comfortable as the island. After working for two years, they had some savings and went back.
In July, Mu Jiaojiao entered the examination hall, full of confidence. After the subject selection, her grades were good.
Liu Jiu, Sheng Nan graduated this year. Liu Jiu unsurprisingly joined the Air Force, where she has her favorite fighter jets.
Shengnan did not stay at the military hospital in Beijing; she returned to the naval base hospital, which was closer to the front-line troops.
At the end of August, Mu Jiaojiao received her admission notice to a normal university in Beijing.
"Dad, I passed the exam. You don't have to worry about me starving to death anymore."
Mu Jiaojiao excitedly ran into the house and rushed towards her father.
"It's good that you passed the exam. After graduation, you can become a teacher and have summer and winter vacations. That would be great."
"Can I teach students well?"
Mu Jiaojiao never imagined that one day she would become a teacher, standing on a podium, lecturing others. For the previous ten years of her life, she had been a student, listening to others' lectures.
"Why can't she be taught well? Our Jiaojiao has read so many books, there's so much she can teach."
"Yeah, let's not think about it for now. We still have four years of university ahead of us."
For a moment, Mu Jiaojiao forgot about whether she could teach her students well. She shoved the admission notice into her father's hand and ran off to play.
"This child is still young, she doesn't take anything to heart, she doesn't think things through enough. After she graduates, find her a job as a primary school teacher, the environment will be relatively simple, so she won't be taken advantage of and end up counting the money for the other party."
Commander Mu muttered to himself for a while, then put it down. In any case, with her child successfully admitted to university, her future path would be much easier.
"Sigh, I don't know how long it will be before he comes back from the South. It's been two years since he left. Liu Jiu performed exceptionally well in the army. Whether it was theory, practical skills, or physical fitness, he was among the best."
Commander Mu is a heartbroken father, and Mu Beifang is still struggling to find a partner even though he's over twenty.
The Mu family was overjoyed because Mu Jiaojiao got into university. Even Mu Dongfang's daughter knew that her aunt had been admitted to university and that she would also go to university in the future, which made everyone laugh and happy!
Gu Ye went home after work. His bodyguard escorted him home before leaving with peace of mind. At the beginning of the year, Gu Ye was promoted from Division Commander Gu to Deputy Army Commander Gu, with the rank of Major General.
"You're back. You're back quite early today."
"Nothing much, I'll be home right after get off work. Is Sanqi back yet?"
"No, they're in their final year of high school, and their schedules are quite packed."
Bonnie took Gu Ye's briefcase and carried it back to the bedroom. Gu Ye changed his shoes, greeted his mother-in-law and the others, and went inside to change his clothes.
"Sanqi has made up her mind. She wants to apply to a foreign language university?"
"Yes, it's decided. He said he wants to go and see, and learn a few more foreign languages, so he can speak at least seven languages."
"Seven types? What's the special significance of that?"
Gu Ye didn't understand how his Sanqi could already be proficient in three foreign languages.
"It didn't mean anything special, I just said it casually. As for Liu Jiu, I haven't seen her in more than two months, how is she doing in the army?"
"She's doing great, very excellent. She just joined the army and is very busy; she won't be back for a while."
Gu Ye had frequent contact with Commander Mu and knew a lot about him. Although the relationship between the two families wasn't publicly acknowledged, everyone who needed to know was aware of it.
"Nanfang will be back soon, it's been two years."
"It should be soon, but even Commander Mu doesn't know the specifics."
Gu Ye and Bao Ni chatted for a while, and when they heard San Qi's commotion, they quickly came out as well.
"Grandma, I'm hungry!"
"I'm hungry, wash your hands, and eat."
"Father, Mother, please sit down. Gu Ye and I will bring it to the table."
Currently, Bonnie and her mother cook most of the meals at home. Bonnie wants to hire a housekeeper because she's worried that her parents are getting old and cooking will be too strenuous. Her mother disagrees, feeling that if she does nothing and just waits for food to be served, she'll become useless.
Seeing that her mother was genuinely unhappy, Bonnie didn't bring it up again. There wasn't much to do at home; the washing machine provided clothes, everyone tidied their own rooms, and the rest of the house was easy to manage.
"Wow, it smells so good! Grandma's cooking is the best. I'll be living at school next year, so it'll be hard to eat like this again."
"It's alright, Grandma will make you some more to take with you. You can come back and pick it up when you have a holiday."
"Okay, I like going home. I'll come back whenever I have a holiday."
Sanqi is over 1.8 meters tall, and he's hugging his grandmother who's less than 1.6 meters tall. It looks quite heartwarming.
"You're so old, yet you still act like a baby."
"Dad, isn't it a bit inappropriate for you to say that? That day, I..."
"Eat your food, stop talking so much."
Gu Ye put a piece of meat on Sanqi's plate and quickly stuffed it into his mouth.
Bonnie watched the father and son go back and forth. Honestly, her son, Ye Ge, almost never got the better of his son. He was always teasing him. Was this a sign of fatherly love?
After a lively meal, Sanqi stopped nagging his father and quickly went back to his room to read.
Commander Gu rolled up his sleeves, put on an apron, and busied himself clearing the table and washing the dishes.
"Deputy Commander Gu, how are you feeling after another defeat today?"
"Sanqi, that kid, his thinking is even sharper, and his reactions are quicker. I'm so happy for him. Whose child is this? Who gave birth to him? How can he be so outstanding!"
Gu Ye looked smug. At home, Gu Ye was Gu Ye, Lin Baoni's husband and Liu Jiu and San Qi's father.
