Chapter 64 The First Experiment

The number of radicals in the second island team has decreased. They were shocked by what Bonnie said and seemed to have suddenly realized that no matter how much criticism they received, what could they gain? If the crops were not well tended, there would be no harvest in the fall, and they themselves would go hungry.

The team members stopped participating, the second team leader had no one to rely on, and his words no longer carried weight. Later, he was even dismissed from his post, and Wang Daya also quieted down.

May has arrived, and Bonnie has completed her basic work and is ready to conduct experiments.

Bonnie chose a spot in the sea where the water was less than ten meters deep. She picked up dozens of thick wooden stakes, took a big iron hammer, and went into the water when the tide was receding. The water was relatively shallow, so she dived down and hammered the wooden stakes into the seabed to secure them.

Bonnie dove down and surfaced again and again, setting up more than a dozen wooden stakes within her planned area.

Bonnie had been busy all day and decided to leave it at that for now. She would rest for two days and see if the wooden stakes could stand upright on the seabed and not be washed away by the waves.

During this period, Bonnie has been busy with seaweed farming and hasn't had much time to play with Liu Jiu, which makes Liu Jiu a little unhappy.

After having dinner at her parents' house, Bao Ni rode her bicycle back to the family compound with Liu Jiu on the back. Gu Ye had not yet returned.

Bonnie played hide-and-seek with Liu Jiu both inside and outside the house. Liu Jiu has been enjoying this game lately. She used to play it with her older brother Da Bao, but now that her mother is with her, Liu Jiu is even happier.

Gu Ye didn't come back all night. I don't know if he went out to sea on a temporary mission or if there was something else going on.

These past two days, Bonnie hasn't planned to go back to her parents' house; the underwater wooden stakes still need some time to be verified. Bonnie took Liu Jiu for a stroll in the family compound, and when they met other children of similar age, they played together.

"Baoni, is your Gu Ye back yet?"

"No, your Bai Chaoyang isn't back either?"

"No, and I didn't send a message home either. I'm not sure what's going on."

Zhao Yuan brought her little daughter over; Xiao Songshu had already gone to daycare.

"It should be fine. The military will notify us if anything happens."

"Yes, I am a little worried."

Bonnie knew that Zhao Yuan was uneasy, especially after Dr. Yang left, she was on edge.

"Alright, stop thinking about it. My Liu Jiu wants to eat mackerel dumplings. I bought some fresh mackerel and a small piece of pork belly this morning, and I'm planning to make dumplings for lunch. It's good that you're here, so you can help me season them."

Zhao Yuan's attention was diverted as she discussed with Bao Ni how to make mackerel dumplings.

She had heard many military wives say that mackerel dumplings were incredibly delicious, and when paired with a little pork belly, they were so fragrant they could make your tongue tingle. But she had never made or eaten them before.

Bonnie is good at everything in the kitchen except for seasoning, especially knife work, which she handles with ease.

In no time, the pork belly was minced, and the mackerel was deboned and chopped into minced meat. Then, the pork belly and mackerel were thoroughly mixed together and seasonings were added.

Bonnie had completed all the previous steps, and Zhao Yuan added the final touches to the flavor. The two worked together smoothly, and the delicious aroma of the meat filling filled the air.

The dumplings had just been cooked when Gu Ye entered the courtyard.

"Daddy, Daddy..."

Liu Jiu, who was playing in the yard, saw Gu Ye and excitedly shouted as she went to greet him.

"Liu Jiu, do you miss Daddy? Daddy misses Liu Jiu so much!"

"You thought about it before replying?"

"Dad went to work, that's why he just came back."

"Yes, I know."

Bonnie heard voices coming from the yard, came out to see what was happening, and found the father and son chatting.

"Gu Ye, hurry up and wash up and get ready for dinner. By the way, did Bai Chaoyang come back with you?"

"Yes, we came back together."

Hearing Gu Ye's words, Zhao Yuan also ran out. "Bai Chaoyang is back too?"

"I'm back."

Zhao Yuan didn't even take off her apron or hold her child before running straight home.

"Zhao Yuan, come have dinner with Bai Chaoyang later."

Bonnie called out, but it's unclear whether she heard her.

"Are you worried about me?"

"What do you think? He didn't go home all night, and didn't even send a message."

"I was wrong. It happened suddenly. I will correct it next time."

"Alright, you stinky blabbermouth, hurry up and take a shower, you're filthy."

"It's not dirty!"

She's truly a loving daughter; Liu Jiu doesn't dislike her father at all.

“Look, my daughter says I’m not dirty.”

The proud Gu Ye reluctantly left his daughter to take a bath. What a dramatic day!

After Gu Ye finished showering and washing and hanging up his clothes, Bai Chaoyang and his wife came in.

"Baoni, did my Baiyang cry?"

Zhao Yuan was a little embarrassed. As soon as she heard that Bai Chaoyang was back, she forgot everything else and ran straight home.

"He's still not awake!"

Bai Chaoyang was helpless. During this time, Zhao Yuan was like a frightened bird, trembling at the slightest sound.

When he was in Beijing before, he would sometimes be on temporary missions and not be home for several days.

"Thank you for your help, Bonnie."

Bai Chaoyang was truly grateful. If Lin Baoni hadn't been there to keep Zhao Yuan company, she would have collapsed sooner or later, left to her own devices and overthinking.

"No need to thank me, we've been looking out for each other. Okay, the dumplings are cooked. I didn't expect that when you came back, it would rain again. Dumplings for those who got on the train, noodles for those who got off, everything's ready."

Zhao Yuan enjoyed the meal very much, and she stopped sighing and her smile never faded.

The two children ate happily without needing to be fed by adults. They weren't used to using spoons, so they would grab food with their hands when they got impatient.

The next day, Gu Ye rested, and the two of them took the child back to Gu Ye's parents' home.

"Grandma, let's go up the mountain. Liu Jiu, please take a look."
