Han Ye saw Gu Ye and the others to the door, but didn't go in himself; he drove away.
Gu Ye and Bao Ni, carrying the child and luggage, pushed open the door and entered the house.
There were quite a few people sitting in the living room.
Grandma Gu sat in the center, with Aunt Gu and Xu Fang on either side, like guardians. Sister-in-law Gu was on the other side with her two children. Gu Yuan, Gu Lan, Gu Yu, and Gu Mei were also there; the rest of the family members were either at school or doing something else.
Speaking of schooling, we have to mention Gu Wei and Gu Nan from Uncle Gu's family. Gu Wei attended a military academy. Although university entrance exams were discontinued, he managed to graduate just in time and was assigned to a unit outside of Beijing.
Gu Nan was rather regretful. He got into a good university, but after studying there for a little over a year, the school closed down, and he had to drop out. It's said he was depressed for a long time. Later, he went to work at his third uncle's factory, at least he had a job. But he wasn't happy with it, he was uncooperative, and even got a scolding from his grandfather.
Of the remaining Gu family girls, Yuan is married and has a baby boy who isn't even a year old yet. Gu Yu barely graduated from high school and joined a performing arts troupe, supposedly as a singer. Gu Mei graduated from junior high and hasn't resumed classes yet, staying at home. She also joined in the "revolution" for a few days, but was scolded by Grandpa Gu and quieted down.
"Bonnie, Liu Jiu, are you tired? Are you hungry?"
Sister-in-law Gu was the first to see Gu Ye and his family of three, and quickly stood up to greet them.
Grandma Gu and Aunt Gu really wanted to pretend they didn't see anything, but they were afraid of Grandpa Gu. The old man was retiring and would soon be going to a retirement home, and this little building would have to be returned to its original state. From now on, the most promising person in the family would be Gu Ze, and there was nothing they could do about it.
"Sister-in-law, we're not hungry. Liu Jiu, call someone."
"Hello, Auntie!"
Liu Jiu knew that this was her aunt who always sent her delicious food and fun toys, as her mother always said.
“Six-Nine Sister, I am Brother Xuanyu. This is Xuanyi, who is older than you. He should also call you brother.”
Liu Jiu looked at the boy who was a little shorter than her and didn't want to call him "brother".
"Not as tall as me!"
The children were chattering away. Gu Ye and Bao Ni greeted Grandma Gu and called her "Auntie."
The two women reluctantly greeted her, which made Bonnie laugh, especially Aunt Gu, who looked constipated—it was hilarious! Bonnie didn't want to kick them while they were down; there was no need to stoop to their level.
Several girls from the Gu family also stood up and addressed their brother and sister-in-law.
Bonnie didn't want to exchange pleasantries with them. She told Sister-in-law Gu and took the child upstairs. They needed to wash up first, as they smelled.
Sister-in-law Gu went to the kitchen and asked them to make some noodles, so that even if she wasn't hungry, she could have something to eat.
When Gu Ye and his family of three came down, Aunt Gu had left, leaving only Gu Lan and Gu Mei among the girls.
"Gu Ye, Bonnie's noodles are ready. Take some with Liu Jiu; she can't eat or sleep well on the train."
"Mom, I want to eat noodles too."
Gu Xuanyi is said to be shorter than his sister, and he has never heard her call him "brother."
"Okay, have some with your second uncle, second aunt, and sister. Xuanyu, do you want some?"
"Mom, I'm not hungry yet, I don't want to eat."
Xuanyu is now six years old. He is fair-skinned and has a gentlemanly demeanor.
"Xuanyu, your second aunt has brought you a lot of sea snails and seashells. I'll give them to you in a bit."
Bonnie really likes Xuanyu; they had a lot of fun together when she came last time. Now she likes him even more. Everyone loves beautiful things, and cute little figures are just as endearing.
"Really? Second Aunt, thank you so much! I'm so happy!"
Xuanyu really likes things like seashells and wants to go to the seaside, but he has never had the chance.
When Liu Jiu saw the noodles, she felt a little hungry, so she sat down in a chair, picked up a spoon, and started eating.
"Baoni, Liu Jiu can eat by herself, she doesn't need to be fed, right?"
"No need, she can eat by herself, she's been used to it since she was little."
Bonnie wasn't very hungry yet; she ate a big bowl of noodles and was full. Liu Jiu also finished eating, glanced disdainfully at Xuan Yi who was still being fed, and ran off to find her brother Xuan Yu.
"Mommy, Mommy, look at me, look at me."
Although Xuan Yi didn't understand Liu Jiu's disdainful gaze, he knew it wasn't a good look, and he felt wronged, wanting his mother to comfort him.
"Hahaha……"
Sister-in-law Gu also saw the look in Liu Jiu's eyes earlier, and laughed heartily. Liu Jiu really looked down on her older brother. She ate very efficiently on her own, but seeing her brother still being fed made her look down on him.
Xuan Yu took Liu Jiu to play with his toys. He liked this slightly chubby little girl at first sight. He didn't know why, he just liked her.
Liu Jiu seemed to like Xuan Yu, her older brother, and didn't refuse to hold his hand, going off to play with him.
Xuan Yi burst into tears after watching his brother and sister leave.
Sister-in-law Gu looked helplessly at her youngest son who loved to cry. She wondered if he had been reincarnated into the wrong family. Although he was a boy, his personality was like that of a little girl, and he cried very much.
Bonnie went upstairs and brought back the seashells, pretty pebbles, and sea rocks she had brought, filling a cloth bag with them. She then took Xuanyi to find Liujiu and the other girl, so the three children could play together.
"Second Auntie is so beautiful, I like her very much, thank you Second Auntie!"
Xuan Yu's eyes lit up as he looked at the various seashells and conches in the bag, and even a small piece of coral.
The children were having a good time together. Bonnie and Sister-in-law Gu were in the kitchen catching up on each other's lives. Bonnie was quite curious about the background of Gu Lan's boyfriend.
It wasn't a secret that Sister-in-law Gu had told Bao Ni.
Gu Lan's boyfriend is named Lin Sen, who is five years older than her. It's quite surprising that Gu Lan found a boyfriend.
Gu Lan said she wouldn't date a soldier because they're always away from home, hard to find when needed, and prone to injury or even death. She herself can't endure hardship and doesn't have much ability; she just wants to live her own simple life.
Gu Lan has many minor flaws, but there is one thing she may have inherited from her biological mother: she is intelligent enough.
Over the years, Xu Fang has treated her and her three children equally on the surface, but in reality, they are not the same.
She doted on Gu Lan, indulging her every whim, which fostered Gu Lan's arrogant personality. After being slapped by Bao Ni and hearing some things about Xu Fang, she calmed down and learned to use her brain.
She couldn't see clearly in one day, or even two, but over the years, with a little effort, she noticed the difference and realized that she could only rely on her eldest brother, Gu Ze. She sought out her brother to reflect deeply on her actions and then begged him to introduce her to someone.
She has a job, and it would be best if the other person is a good person, doesn't have complicated family relationships, has a stable job, and can understand her.
Gu Ze observed for a while and found that his younger sister had finally grown up and knew how to use her brain, so he started looking for potential partners for her. After looking at two or three, only Lin Sen and she got along well. They got to know each other for a few months before deciding to get married.
Lin Sen is a retired soldier who now works as a security guard in the security department of the Beijing Machinery Factory. His older siblings are all married, and he also has a younger sister. After they got married, they lived separately, and their families provided them with two rooms.
As long as Gu Lan doesn't cause trouble, and with her older brother Gu around, she should be able to live a good life.
