Chapter 71 Grandpa Gu moves into the retirement home, and Bao Ni's family leaves.

The day after Gu Lan returned to her parents' home, Grandpa Gu and the others packed their things and moved into the retirement home.

Gu Ye packed up all the things in his room. He sent some of the things that were still usable back to the island, and put the rest in his mother's old house.

This was the first time Bonnie had seen the house. It wasn't a very large courtyard house, but it was exquisite. She guessed that the Xu family had carefully prepared it for their daughter. There were many things that Gu's mother had used inside. Gu Ye couldn't bear to look at them for too long. He put the things in the room where he had stayed, locked the door, and left.

“Let’s go. This place holds my mother’s memories. We can come back and stay for a while sometime in the future to reminisce about the happy things that happened before.”

"Um."

The two silently took each other's hands, feeling their hearts race in the quiet street!

Gu Ye and his brother talked about some work-related matters, and also spent some time with Han Ye and the others before preparing to go back.

The only thing that made Bao Ni happy upon her return was the news brought by Han Ye's wife, Zhou Weihong. The younger sister from the Deng family, who had a crush on Gu Ye, had gotten married. Bao Ni hadn't remembered her name, but hearing that she was finally married made her very happy.

There was nothing wrong at first, but she always interfered, making it seem like Gu Ye and she had something going on. Gu Ye and Deng Bing were on good terms, so Bao Ni couldn't really beat her up. It was so annoying. Now that she heard Gu Ye got married, all the trouble is over. That's great!

At the same station, last time it was Bonnie and Gu Ye, this time there's Liu Jiu too.

"Brother, sister-in-law, you can go back now, we're getting in the car."

"Take good care of Bonnie and Liu Jiu. Don't act impulsively. Think more about your wife and children."

Gu Ze looked at his younger brother, who was a little taller than him. In the blink of an eye, he was almost thirty years old, and his children were already running around everywhere!

“I know, brother. You should also be careful, especially with those people. Don’t worry about whether they live or die. Don’t pay attention to what Grandpa said either. He wants the whole family to be well, but he can’t control them. Don’t expect you to clean up their messes.”

"I know, get in the car now."

"Liu Jiu, remember to miss your brother."

Gu Xuanyu couldn't bear to part with Liu Jiu; he loved this younger sister very much.

"Remember."

The two children made a promise, not knowing how long it would last.

With a long whistle, the train started moving!

Bao Ni breathed a sigh of relief when Gu Ze bought her a sleeper berth. Thank goodness, sitting in a hard seat for two days was more tiring than going out to sea to fish.

The journey was smooth. After getting off the train, I bought a boat ticket and got closer and closer to home.

Bonnie felt that nowhere was as good as their island; the outside world was too chaotic, making everyone feel uneasy.

The most interesting thing was that Bonnie even met a woman who was taking pictures of her husband. Just thinking about it makes me laugh!

A group of young people riding bicycles and carrying bags slung across their shoulders arrogantly weaved through the streets and alleys, exuding a sense of superiority that made them think they were the best in the world.

Bonnie had just returned from the department store to buy some food for Liu Jiu. As soon as she got off the bus, these guys rode around Bonnie on their bicycles, whistling inappropriately.

Bonnie has gotten much fairer in the past year or two, and her rounder figure makes her look much younger. Her seemingly easy-going appearance has fooled countless people.

This group of children of cadres, dressed in military green, roared by on their old-fashioned bicycles. Bonnie had only heard of them before; this was the first time she had ever seen them in person. It was said that these people were mostly children of cadres from the "Old Three Classes" (referring to the three graduating classes of 1966, 1967, and 1968), with nothing to do all day and excess energy that had nowhere to go.

Bonnie rolled her eyes at them. How boring. Soon, you'll get what's coming to you.

It's already mid-1968, and the large-scale "Down to the Countryside Movement" is about to begin. These young smug kids are doomed. Facing the loess soil with their backs to the sky, their backs ached and their legs were sore from harvesting. Farm work will drain all their energy.

"Get out of the way, or you'll face the consequences."

Bonnie was also itching to beat them up; it shouldn't be a problem. They were only a few steps from the compound, and if they made a big fuss, someone would come.

"Hey, Brother Chen, you're quite the feisty one!"

"Brother Chen, this one is much better than the one from the Gu family. That guy sticks to you the moment he sees you, it's terrifying."

"That's right!"

The young man who was speaking had pointed ears and a monkey-like face, while the "Brother Chen" they were talking about looked quite presentable.

"Alright, watch your mouth. We're not those petty thugs. Don't lower our standards."

Her voice is quite pleasant, but she doesn't do anything right.

"Get out of the way. This is your last warning. If you don't move aside, don't blame me."

"Ha ha……"

Several people straddled bicycles, laughing loudly, as if Bonnie was telling a joke.

Bonnie kicked the weasel-faced guy away with a thud, sending him flying quite a distance.

"monkey?"

The others' expressions changed; they hadn't expected to encounter such a tough opponent.

Bonnie ignored them and walked out through the gap. Someone tried to ambush her from behind, but Bonnie grabbed him and threw him out.

Bonnie got angry too. If they can't understand human language, then beat them until they do.

With kicks and shoves, everyone except Brother Chen was brought down.

The two stood facing each other, neither making the first move. Bonnie, eager to get home, made the first move.

You punched me, I kicked you; Bonnie wasn't hit, but Brother Chen got a bruise on his face.

"Brother Chen, hit her! Damn, it hurts so much!"

"This guy's going all out! My arm is going to die!"

...

Even the guy called Brother Chen is at his last gasp, only holding on by sheer willpower.

"Bonnie!"

As Gu Ye and Han Ye approached the courtyard, they saw the two opposing sides and realized that it was his wife, Lin Baoni.

"Gu Ye!"

"What's wrong?"

"These guys are surrounding me and won't let me leave."

Bonnie was also helpless. Her mother-in-law had hit her on the head. How could she be blind? She's a married woman.
