Chapter 72 Seaweed Sprouts

After disembarking, the family of three took their luggage and went home.

It was already quite hot on the island in July, and the sea breeze carried a salty, fishy smell. But Bonnie liked this smell; it was the smell of nature.

The family of three returned home and first boiled water to wash up; they were practically dried out from the journey.

The vegetables in the garden were all ripe, so Gu Ye quickly made a pot of tomato and egg noodles to fill his stomach. Liu Jiu was so sleepy that he could barely keep his eyes open and was about to fall asleep.

After putting the child on the bed, Bao Ni and Gu Ye split up to clean the house, which had been uninhabited for over twenty days and was covered in dust.

Bao Ni was in charge of the house, Gu Ye was in charge of the outside, there were some weeds in the yard, and they also cleaned up the chicken coop. Bao Ni was busy until Zhao Yuan arrived, and she finally finished.

"Bonnie, you're back?"

"You just arrived this morning, come in."

Bonnie let Zhao Yuan in. Bai Yang had just woken up, and tears were still welling up in her eyes.

Bonnie, how's my house?

Zhao Yuan knew she was getting a little anxious, but she was worried! Bai Chaoyang wasn't telling her the truth, and she couldn't go back.

"Zhao Yuan, when I was in Beijing, I went to check on your house from afar. The house was sealed off, and it seems your parents have moved away. We couldn't find out exactly where they went. We also went to the department store; it seems your sister's family has been transferred."

Bonnie did go, but didn't get any useful information. She even asked Zhou Weihong, but she didn't know either. All she knew was that Zhao Yuan's family was alive and well, and no one had been killed.

Where can we go?

Zhao Yuan's eyes were brimming with tears; she was very worried.

"Don't worry too much. I've asked around, and your house wasn't raided, it was just sealed off. Also, someone saw your parents leaving with a lot of luggage. They weren't hurt and left on their own."

Bonnie wandered around there several times and asked several groups of people, all of whom said that they left on their own. The Zhao couple only said that they were transferred to a different job, but did not say where they were transferred to.

Although Zhao Yuan's family has a capitalist background, her father is also a scholar, and it seems he is researching something that is kept secret.

Zhao Yuan wiped away her tears and composed herself; this was already a good result.

"Thank you, Bonnie. I know Bai Chaoyang was afraid I would worry, but they are my family, and I still can't help but worry."

"I understand, no news is good news."

"Okay, I understand. I won't ask around anymore. I'll wait for them to contact me."

Zhao Yuan wiped away her tears, hugged Bai Yang, and went home. Bao Ni had just returned and had a lot to do.

Bao Ni had just seen Zhao Yuan off when Liu Jiu woke up. She carried her to get some water, changed her clothes, and then went to visit her parents' home later, returning after dinner.

Bonnie packed up some local specialties she brought back, which were for her grandmother and the others, as well as toys for her two nephews.

After not seeing each other for more than twenty days, Grandma and Liu Jiu had a sweet kiss.

"Have your parents gone to work?"

"After I left, the grass grew much taller."

At that time, there were no pesticides, and weeding relied entirely on manual labor. It was true that as soon as one weed was finished, another one would grow back. No one knew how many times they had to weed! There wasn't much arable land on their island, so they took great care of it, hoping to harvest more food so that everyone could have more to eat.

When Lin's mother and the others returned, they asked about the situation in Beijing again. They didn't see their second brother, Lin Tao; he had gone on another mission.

Lin's mother and the others felt a little disappointed, but there was nothing they could do.

Bonnie explained that she would ask Lin's mother to watch the children for a day tomorrow, as she had something to do.

"Okay, I don't need to work tomorrow, I'll rest tomorrow."

Bonnie and the others went home after dinner. Liu Jiu can play however she wants during the day and doesn't cry if she can't see her mother, but she can't do that at night and has to sleep with her mother.

"Liu Jiu, are you a little dreadlock? Because of you, Dad has missed out on so many benefits."

"What nonsense are you talking to the child about? Stop playing and go to sleep. Don't you have to go to work tomorrow?"

"Yes, sir!"

"Yes, sir!"

The father and son's mischievous expressions broke Bonnie's defenses, and she burst out laughing.

"Being silly, I can't say anymore, especially outside."

"receive."

"Know."

Liu Jiu yawned; he was sleepy.

The little guy fell asleep in no time, which was very convenient. He could sleep when he was sleepy and eat when he was hungry. He was even easier to take care of than a pig.

After Bonnie finished washing up, both father and son fell asleep.

Home is the best place, and Bonnie is sleepy too.

The next day, Bonnie took Liu Jiu to her parents' house and then went to her secret hideout.

After changing into her swimsuit, Bonnie dived into the marked spot and soon saw the wooden stakes she had driven in. Good, they were still there and hadn't been washed away.

Bonnie surfaced to get the bag; she had just seen seaweed seedlings, quite a lot of them, all rooted in the rocks, some quite long.

Bonnie dove down and put the seaweed seedlings into a burlap sack. The sack was hanging around Bonnie's neck, and she quickly reached into it with both hands.

Bonnie has to surface for air after diving for a while, and without diving equipment, it's just a waste of time.

In one morning, Bonnie caught a lot of seaweed seedlings, and it seemed like the whole area had been harvested. Bonnie had lunch, which was scallion pancakes made by her grandmother, and they tasted very good.

After eating her fill, Bonnie started picking out the seedlings.

These seaweed seedlings are quite large now, but Bonnie has packed them rather sparsely, worried that the limited space might hinder their growth.

After several hours of work, Bonnie finally finished clipping all the seaweed seedlings, using a total of fourteen ropes.

Bonnie placed the pre-made bamboo raft above the wooden stakes on the sea surface, and then used a large bamboo basket to carry four ropes filled with seaweed seedlings over. First, she fixed one end of the rope to the four corners of the bamboo raft, and then Bonnie dived underwater to fix the other end to the wooden stakes.

Using the same method, Bonnie secured all the ropes that held the seaweed seedlings in place. This was the first batch of test samples; it was uncertain whether it would be successful.

Bonnie packed her things and prepared to go home. She was a little tired and would check on things again tomorrow.

With Liu Jiu in tow, Bonnie went home. They decided to eat at the cafeteria that night; she didn't want to move, and Liu Jiu had already finished eating.

In the evening, Gu Ye gave Bao Ni a massage. She hadn't exercised in a long time, and if she didn't get a massage, her legs would be sore the next day.

"Gu Ye, I got a bamboo raft of seaweed seedlings today. Do you think it will work? If I go there tomorrow morning and all the ropes are washed away, I'll be furious."

"No, your strength is limited. If this doesn't work, there's basically no hope of success."

Bonnie woke up several times during the night. Finally, when dawn broke, Bonnie was taken to her parents' house, and she couldn't wait to see what she had accomplished the previous day.

Thankfully, they're all there. Occasionally, a few seaweed seedlings have fallen off, probably because Bonnie didn't clip them properly.

There were no more seaweed seedlings in this area, so Bonnie went to the second seedling base she had found.

Just like yesterday, I collected all the seedlings in the morning and clipped them in the afternoon. This time I clipped two more, for a total of sixteen.

Practice makes perfect, and this time it was much faster. All sixteen ropes were hung up, even earlier than yesterday.

Bonnie decided to treat herself, so she went down into the water and caught a lot of sea cucumbers and abalone, as well as some scattered kelp seedlings, which she then mixed and ate that evening.

Passing by the reefs, they smashed some more oysters. That night, Gu Ye had a big meal and almost got kicked out by Bao Ni!
