"Ahem..." Bonnie cleared her throat, breaking the silence.
"Let me say this first, my name is Lin Baoni, I graduated from high school, I'm quite strong, so I eat a lot." The implication is that you should prepare more household supplies.
"I am Gu Ye, a college graduate, currently serving as a battalion commander. My salary plus allowance is about a hundred yuan a month, and I eat quite a bit!" Gu Ye introduced himself to Lin Baoni, but something felt off.
"Also, let me state in advance that I can't cook, I can't sew, and I can't knit." Don't let Lin Baoni's cute and well-behaved appearance fool you; she knows absolutely nothing about household chores.
"I don't know how either. The army has a mess hall." Gu Ye wouldn't ask others to do something he himself couldn't do.
Bonnie thought that apart from being a bit cold, Comrade Gu Ye was pretty good in every other way.
He's good-looking, but I don't know his height. He was sitting on the bed the whole time, and judging from his upper body, he must be at least 1.8 meters tall.
The salary and benefits are good. Money is really valuable these days; the company divides it by points.
A little over a hundred yuan, a high salary!
In my memory, Bonnie had a tin box, which seemed to contain money, but I don't know exactly how much.
She possesses most of the original owner's memories, but some minor details are rather blurry.
This doesn't matter. Most people only remember recent events; they can't remember things that are too far in the past.
"Then we've reached a preliminary consensus. May we have a pleasant cooperation in the future—no, I mean, may we have a pleasant life together!" Bonnie blurted out, a little embarrassed.
Gu Ye was puzzled. Could a girl with such an outward appearance and inner personality work well with him?
Don't think you didn't hear me just because you changed your tune. It's a pleasant cooperation, isn't it?
"I'll write the marriage application this afternoon. This is a special case, so the political review will be quick. Once the application is approved, we can get the marriage certificate, and then no one will gossip." Gu Ye wondered if his grandfather and brother would be overjoyed and cry tears of joy if they knew he had agreed to the marriage so readily.
He knew that his brother was always afraid that he would die so easily without any ties.
His brother was overthinking it. They say good people don't live long, but bad people live for a thousand years. His father said he was a scourge, so how could he die so easily?
"What are your requirements for marriage? What kind of dowry do you want? It seems like we can't come up with the 'three turns and one sound' (referring to a set of three turns and one sound) all at once." Gu Ye recalled that when his comrade-in-arms got married, he wanted the "three turns and one sound" and a dowry.
"I'm not sure either. The bride price will be based on local standards. You can ask around when the time comes. If possible, I'd like a bicycle, preferably a women's one, so it'll be convenient for me to ride home. Ah, to my parents' house." It takes about twenty minutes to walk from their brigade to the military family compound, so a bicycle would make it much faster.
"The bicycle is fine, but do you plan to go back to your parents' house every day?" Gu Ye was puzzled. Why was she so homesick?
“I have to go home for dinner. I heard the food in the army canteen is so-so. My grandma and mom are both great cooks, their skills are passed down through generations.” Bao Ni thought that it would be better to buy food and have her grandma cook it than to eat the canteen’s terrible food.
Gu Ye was so choked up that he couldn't say a word.
This girl doesn't play by the rules; when it comes to marriage, she talks about it fluently and without any shyness.
They clearly stated what they wanted and what they were capable of, in a logical and unambiguous manner.
At this moment, Gu Ye truly felt the reality of his impending marriage.
Because of his mother's tragic marriage, he never thought he would get married in his life.
He knows his own personality well: cold, rigid, and uncaring... none of these traits are suitable for family life.
However, I feel a little lost about having to negate something I've persisted in for over twenty years, but I don't seem to feel angry.
Lin Baoni decided to go back after seeing that the discussion had gone far enough.
"Let's leave it at that. Once the marriage application is approved, let me know, and then I'll tell my family. That way, there won't be any mishaps, and my family can't go through any more unpleasant things," Lin Baoni instructed. She felt it was best to wait until everything was finalized before making any further statements.
"There won't be any surprises, I'll do it as soon as possible." This was the first time Gu Ye had felt so distrusted, a new experience for him.
"Alright, hurry up. These gossipy women love to talk nonsense; it's even reached the military family compound. They were still discussing it when I came this morning." Thinking about what those people said this morning, Gu Ye was a figure of fear in their hearts!
"I know, these people should go to political study." Gu Ye hated those gossipy old women. If it weren't for his reputation, they would be begging him to arrange marriages.
"Is there anything else you need to explain?"
"That's all. Oh, and when is my second brother going to report for duty?" After talking for so long, I almost forgot the most important thing.
"Reporting for duty next month. We'll get a notification in a couple of days. Your second brother and the others will set off then." He really knows what's important!
"Comrade Gu Ye, let's say goodbye here. Until we meet again!" Before Gu Ye could react, Bonnie ran out.
"Oh my god, I'm suffocating! If I don't leave soon, I'll embarrass myself." Bonnie's mutterings reached Gu Ye's ears without missing a single word.
Why do I feel a little hot? Gu Ye touched his forehead with his hand, but he didn't have a fever!
Bonnie found the toilet, relieved herself, and breathed a sigh of relief. She was about to explode from holding it in!
I glanced at my watch; it was almost noon. I found a state-run restaurant and had a bowl of seafood noodles. It tasted pretty good, but not as good as Grandma's.
What does Gu Ye know? If he had tasted Grandma's cooking, he would know why he wanted to go home.
They went to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy some peach shortbread for Da Bao, while Bao Ni returned to the dock to wait for the ship.
The same people who had been gossiping in the morning were also waiting for the boat. Seeing Lin Baoni, who seemed unaffected and even had a smile on her face, they lost their desire to gossip.
