Time is running out. The first batch of people to go to the countryside has been selected, and the departure date has been set.
Gu Xiangdong went to great lengths and pulled many strings to change Gu Mei's time to go to the countryside after the New Year. The location was still Yunnan Province, but it was changed from a remote commune to a construction corps under the city closest to the provincial capital.
Gu Xiangdong has comrades-in-arms over there, and he hopes they can take care of Gu Mei.
Knowing that Gu Mei was still thinking about that Han family boy, Gu Xiangdong didn't dare tell her that the location had changed, and that the Han family boy wasn't even on the list of educated youth going to Yunnan Province. He didn't know if he wasn't going to the countryside at all, or if he hadn't told Gu Mei the real location.
Gu Xiangdong was extremely worried about Gu Mei; he was like a loving father to her!
Gu Mei was relieved to know that her father hadn't changed her destination for going to the countryside, and she also saw that Han Weidong and the others hadn't left yet.
On the other hand, Tian Hui went out that day and didn't return until very late.
"Mom and Dad, I'm getting married!"
"Marriage, with whom?"
Gu Xiaogu never expected that her daughter would find a boyfriend so quickly after going out for a short while.
"It's Li Hui from my dad's factory, the son of Deputy Factory Director Li."
"What? That Li Hui is divorced and has a child."
Gu Xiaogu never expected that her daughter would drop such a bombshell.
Li Hui is already twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old. His first wife died in childbirth, leaving behind a little girl who is three or four years old. Although he works as a manager in the factory, being a stepmother is not an easy job.
"So what if he's divorced and has children? Right now, he's the only decent guy I could find."
Tian Hui knew her advantages; she was good-looking, and Li Hui had shown interest in her before, but she hadn't paid it any mind. Now, to avoid being sent to the countryside, she didn't care anymore, at least Li Hui's family was well-off.
“Tian Hui, marriage is not a game; you can’t just look at the conditions. Why don’t you go to the countryside first, and we’ll find a way to transfer you back after the storm has passed in two years?”
Tian Zhiming didn't quite agree with his daughter's approach; a marriage with ulterior motives is never a good thing.
"Wait two years. I'll be twenty by then. If you still can't get me transferred back to the city, then should I just marry a man from the countryside and spend the rest of my life in the countryside, living the same kind of life as my aunts?"
That was Tian Hui's nightmare; she would rather die than live in the countryside.
Tian Zhiming looked very unhappy. His daughter was disgusted by his hometown, and the people she was disgusted by were his relatives.
"Alright, if you're willing, I have no objection."
Tian Zhiming walked back to his room dejectedly. He knew that Tian Xiangxi had also regretted it, but there was nothing she could do.
"What are you saying in front of your father?"
"Mom, I have no choice. I really can't live in the countryside. I really can't, not even for a day."
Tian Hui really couldn't stand that kind of life; the thought of it terrified her.
"So how did you decide on this?"
"Let's get our marriage certificate tomorrow, and we can prepare the rest later. Otherwise, it's too annoying that the neighborhood committee keeps coming to persuade us every day."
And so the matter was settled. In order to avoid going to the countryside, Tian Hui married him.
Bonnie and the others didn't know about these things. After the New Year, Gu Ye went out to sea once, and spent the rest of his time on the island.
Gu Ye was thinking about how to celebrate his daughter's 3rd birthday.
Three-year-old Liu Jiu is over a meter tall. She often exercises with her father and has a very muscular build.
In the family compound, Liu Jiu was considered a minor leader; no child under seven or eight could beat her.
Bonnie was strong as a child, but she used brute force. Liu Jiu, on the other hand, was trained by her father from a young age and learned techniques.
Gu Ye racked his brains but still couldn't figure out what gift to prepare for his daughter.
"Old Xiao, what kind of gift do you think I should give my daughter that she would like?"
Xiao Chaoyang glanced at Gu Ye but ignored him. So what if he has a daughter? He's always showing off in front of him, talking about how great Liu Jiu is, how great Liu Jiu is. What's the big deal? His wife is pregnant again. What family can't have a daughter? Even though he already has two sons, his wife said that if this baby is another boy, she won't have any more.
Xiao Chaoyang is two years older than Gu Ye, and his eldest son is already eight years old. Unlike Gu Ye, who is almost thirty and only has one child, Liu Jiu.
"I'm asking you, why aren't you answering?"
"I don't have a daughter, how would I know what a daughter likes? Stop thinking about that, your promotion report is out, and you still have the paperwork to write!"
Gu Ye got promoted, from battalion commander to regimental commander.
Gu Ye had already accumulated numerous military merits, including saving the base commander, and was already a recognized member of the unit. Last year, he participated in a long mission and earned further merits. Coincidentally, the newly appointed regimental commander of the Second Regiment, Liu, needed to change his duties, so Gu Ye was directly transferred to take over the Second Regiment.
A regimental commander who's not even thirty yet has a bright future ahead of him!
Xiao Chaoyang didn't get promoted this time, and he won't be partnered with Gu Ye anymore. Oh well, I'll have to work harder myself!
Gu Ye didn't have time to think about his daughter's gift; he needed to finish his work first.
In the evening, when Gu Ye returned home, Bao Ni had already prepared everything, waiting for Gu Ye to come back and cook.
"Bonnie, what gift are you preparing for your 69th birthday?"
"Ah, I'm ready."
"What have you prepared?"
"I'm planning to have a younger brother or sister for her."
Bonnie answered smoothly, which startled Gu Ye, who was chopping scallions and almost cut his hand.
"You...you're pregnant?"
"I've got it. I went to the clinic for a check-up today. The new doctor isn't as good as the previous Dr. Yang. I wonder when Dr. Yang will be transferred back."
"Lin Baoni, why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?"
