"Oh dear, my clothes are so dirty!"
"Oh, Bai Zhiqing, you seem quite smart, how come you don't know that you should wear work clothes when you're working?"
The wife of the team leader of the third team disliked the new educated youth and made many sarcastic remarks.
"I don't have any work clothes, and I didn't even know we needed fishing nets! Aren't we here to build a new countryside?"
Bai Xiaoxiao had no idea that going to the countryside was so tough. Her face was tanned, her skin was rough, and her hands were calloused. She wanted to go home, but her mother said she couldn't go back; the rural service program was still ongoing, and the next batch was about to leave.
“You lot, building a new countryside? You can’t even earn enough to feed yourselves. You’re just a bunch of freeloaders. If you don’t work hard, you’ll go hungry in the fall. We can’t even feed ourselves, let alone give you any extra food.”
"You, you, you..."
This was the first time Bai Xiaoxiao had ever been so disliked, and so openly at that. This was unacceptable to the always aloof Bai Xiaoxiao. She stood there, tears welling in her eyes, her body trembling, looking utterly devastated.
And this performance actually had an audience.
"Mom, why are you talking about the educated youth again?"
"You little bastard, you dare to question me? If you help this little vixen with chores again, get out of here! We don't keep ungrateful wretches in this house. Do you think the house can't function without you? You worthless piece of trash, you can't even walk past a female..."
The third team leader's wife was scathing in her speech, scolding her son and dragging the female educated youth into it as well. Bai Xiaoxiao was really going to faint this time, and it wasn't just a scare tantrum.
Their faces were grim, and they didn't know what to say. The people here didn't care about martial ethics; they just spewed out a string of curses. They were still too naive.
We ignored the farce here; everyone was busy, just treating it as a spice in life.
