Chapter 235 The Aftermath of the Fight

A group of people were waiting for the results in the logistics department. The little hen's eyes darted around nervously. Seeing that things were not going well, her son also stopped making empty promises.

Bonnie wasn't in a hurry; she was just waiting for the outcome. If she didn't beat her into submission this time, the trouble would never end, especially with the neighbors living on either side.

Liu Jiu was talking to Gu Xuanyi. This older brother wasn't good at fighting and his reaction was slow. If it were her, she would have dodged long ago. How could she let that little fat boy hit her? She still lacks training.

Sanqi held the Nissan Sylphy toy car, turning the wheels with his hand, one after another, making a rather pleasant sound. He stood directly in front of the chubby boy, glancing at him every now and then, opening and closing the car door...

The chubby boy watched Sanqi playing with toy cars and wanted them too, but he was afraid that little girl would beat him up. It seemed that even her mother couldn't beat other mothers. Waaah... Why does that car wheel keep spinning? It's so annoying!

When Li Shengli arrived, panting, he saw his troublesome wife with her eyes darting around, and knew that she had neither the right nor the advantage.

He came from a rural area, but because of his decent abilities and good looks, he caught the eye of Ma Chunhua. His father-in-law was a brigade commander in the fleet headquarters, and his two older brothers-in-law also served in the military. Ma Chunhua was his only daughter, and he was very much favored.

After so many years of marriage, he had benefited greatly from his father-in-law's influence, and he was always very cautious and respectful towards his wife, acting like a son-in-law who had moved into her family home. This time, when there was a vacancy on the island, he applied for the position himself, and with his father-in-law's recommendation, he was able to get promoted.

"I'm sorry, my wife is young and doesn't know any better. She's caused you all trouble. I apologize on her behalf." Li Shengli lowered his stance, apologized first, and tried to downplay the matter.

"Apologize? You apologize without even asking why. If apologies were so effective, what would we need the police for?" Gu Ye's voice was cold, and his expression was also unpleasant.

He returned home from the beach and found soldiers checking for traces in the yard. After asking around, he learned what had happened and rushed over. Gu Xuanyu and the others were left behind. They were right next to Li Shengli, but they came from opposite directions and didn't run into each other.

Bonnie was taken aback. "What's the point of having the police if an apology is enough?" Was this the first thing her Gu Ye had said?

"Commander Gu, I'm sorry, that's not what I meant. We live next door, and we'll see each other all the time. I thought it would be good to turn hostility into friendship." Li Shengli still lacked confidence in front of Gu Ye, who was a truly formidable figure.

“Really? You’re so magnanimous, it makes us seem narrow-minded. But I think my wife is right, we need to make things clear. Your son looks to be about ten years old, and your wife looks much older than mine.”

Gu Ye showed no mercy, and Li Shengli couldn't say anything either; they were truly a pair of troublemakers.

At this moment, the soldier who went to check the traces returned. "Report: After investigation, the traces show that they climbed over the wall from the east courtyard to enter the west courtyard."

After telling the truth, the young soldier stepped aside.

"Comrade Li Shengli, the matter is very clear. Your child climbed over the wall into Regiment Commander Gu's house, assaulted him, and stole his belongings. He was then assaulted by Regiment Commander Gu's child. Judging from the cause, process, and outcome of the incident, your family's demands are completely unreasonable and constitute a disruption of unity within the family compound." The logistics leader recognized Li Shengli and knew who his father-in-law was, but he couldn't show favoritism in this matter.

"Comrade Lin, what are your requests?"

Bonnie glanced at the adults and children across the street; they were truly unpleasant. "Make his child apologize to my nephew. He stole things and hit him. The child's mother should write an apology letter and post it on the bulletin board. From now on, it's best to leave each other alone, otherwise..."

Bonnie had barely finished speaking when the little hen protested, "My son was also hit by your child, so we're even. I didn't know what happened before, and ignorance is no excuse. I can apologize, but why do I have to write an apology letter and post it on the bulletin board?"

“If your child hit someone, you have to apologize. My child hit someone in self-defense. You’re innocent of wrongdoing, but you didn’t say that when you were yelling for compensation.” Bonnie hates people like that, who have the guts to do something but not the guts to admit it.

“If you have any complaints, I can call Commander Ma and ask him who gave his daughter the audacity to run rampant in the family compound under his name.” Gu Ye looked at Li Shengli, waiting for him to make a decision.

"We apologize, we write a letter of self-criticism, we're sorry."

Li Shengli grabbed Ma Chunhua, who was about to say something, and gestured to her with his eyes to shut up.

"Li Qiang, go apologize to the child. You did something wrong."

Li Qiang was probably terrified of his father. He reluctantly walked up to Gu Xuanyi and said, "I'm sorry, I was wrong, sob... I got beaten too..."

This child was probably kicking a hornet's nest for the first time, and apologizing to someone for the first time. He was so aggrieved that he threw himself into his mother's arms and burst into tears.

The little hen was in the same situation; the mother and hen cried as if someone had died.

"Boss, I'd like to make a request. I want to raise the wall between our two houses, so that similar incidents won't happen in the future. It's not good for anyone, is it?" Bonnie didn't want to see them every day and have them watching her every move.

"Sister-in-law, isn't this a bit unnecessary?" Li Shengli hadn't expected Gu Ye's wife to be so difficult to talk to.

“It’s very necessary. I don’t tolerate any nonsense. I usually prefer to take action rather than nag. It’s better to keep things separate. Your wife is young and doesn’t know any better. I’m not that old and don’t like to take action.”

Li Shengli was speechless, unable to utter a single word. His previous smooth talk was no use with Gu Ye and his wife.

"Don't forget the apology letter, I'm waiting to see it. Boss, we're going back now. We can handle the wall construction ourselves, so we won't cause any more trouble for the organization."

Bonnie led the main group home, leaving Han Bei and his team with no further opportunity to prove themselves.

Gu Xuanyi was in a good mood. Although he had been hit, Liu Jiu had protected him, his aunt believed him, and the chubby boy had apologized to him.

"I'll make chive pancakes tonight. I'm going to my grandma's to cut some chives. Xuanyu, you guys get yourselves ready and wash your clothes."

The children were all busy with their own things, and Bonnie whispered to Gu Ye, "You spoke with such confidence just now, so cool!"

Gu Ye's face flushed again after his wife praised him.

Bonnie chuckled and ran off.

Gu Ye watched his wife run away. Did she enjoy seeing him blush so much? She always teased him.

Bonnie went back to her parents' house and cut a basket of chives. She told her grandma not to cook dinner, as she would make chive pancakes and bring some over. Her mother was still in the hospital and couldn't come back that night.

The filling was chives, eggs, and shrimp; the kids peeled off quite a few large shrimp. Gu Ye prepared the filling, and Bao Ni kneaded the dough. They fried the chive pancakes on a griddle until both sides were golden brown.

Bonnie cooked another pot of millet porridge and some pickled vegetables from her parents' home. The kids ate until they were stuffed; it was so delicious. Gu Ye looked at the row of kids and thought, "These half-grown boys are really going to eat their fathers out of house and home!"
