Extra Chapter: Better to Remember Than to Meet Again

Back in Beijing, Bonnie was also very busy. Over the years, she didn't have many friends, but she did have a few true friends.

"Bonnie, we're here."

Gu Ye went to take the child to school, and Bao Ni was just about to go plant vegetables when she heard Wei Hong's voice.

"Sister Wei Hong, brother-in-law, why are you up so early?"

“We just finished shopping at the morning market and bought a lot of fresh wild vegetables. Your brother-in-law said he wanted to come over and have you try them.”

Wei Hong's voice became powerful again, as if she were fighting.

"That's great! We've been so busy this year that we haven't even had any wild vegetables yet!"

Bonnie wanted to eat it as soon as she heard that, especially since her brother-in-law's cooking skills were really good, at the level of a state banquet chef.

Speaking of Wei Hong's husband, Zhuang Zheng, he's quite interesting. He used to be a full-time employee at the museum, repairing cultural relics.

Two people who originally had no connection suddenly found themselves together after an unexpected incident: Sister Wei Hong rescued a damsel in distress.

Zhuang Zheng is a native of Beijing; his family has been engaged in the appraisal and restoration of cultural relics for generations. He lost his wife in middle age, when his children were still minors. He married late and had children late as well.

She refused all matchmakers and raised her two children alone until they were grown up and established in their careers. Having some family wealth and working in the field of cultural relics, she would wear small, inexpensive items on her wrists, simply because she liked them.

That time, when he was targeted by a petty thief and cornered at the entrance of an alley, it was Sister Wei Hong who happened to be passing by who grabbed a broom and chased the thief away. Zhuang Zheng was impressed by Sister Wei Hong wielding the broom and was deeply impressed by her.

They bumped into each other a couple more times later. They lived not far from each other, and gradually, they became familiar with each other.

Zhuang Zheng was a good cook and often treated Wei Hong to meals. Both of them were single and their children didn't live with them. Over time, they got together.

Wei Hong was hesitant at first, like someone who had been bitten by a snake once and was now afraid of ropes for ten years. She and Han Ye were childhood sweethearts, but in the end they still parted ways, leaving her heartbroken.

Bonnie, however, felt that people should look forward and not get stuck in a rut.

"Sister Wei Hong, what do you have to worry about now? Are you afraid of being cheated out of your money or your body? We've lived to this age, the most important thing is to be happy and live as we please."

Even if you have problems later, you can just divorce again; it's not like you haven't been divorced before. You're not going to have any more children, so it won't involve too many issues.

Bonnie thought about how carefree Han Ye was after his divorce.

He did not remarry, but he changed female partners frequently, and they were all getting younger and younger, some of them old enough to be his daughters.

What concerns does Sister Wei Hong have? To put it bluntly, if she doesn't get married or find a partner, she'll have to suppress certain needs. Why bother?

Later, it was only after Wei Hong's child said something that she relented, and the two of them got their marriage certificate and moved in together.

Sister Wei Hong moved to the Zhuang family's house. Her youngest son lives there, which is close by, so she goes back to visit him from time to time.

The Zhuang family's two children are also good; they respect Sister Wei Hong enough because their father raised them alone, which was too hard for him. Now that they have suitable people to live with, they are very grateful.

After retiring, the two of them lived a very comfortable life. They both had retirement pensions and didn't need to subsidize their children, so they had enough to live on.

Brother-in-law Zhuang enjoys collecting antiques, so the two of them would go to the flea market together. Sister Wei Hong likes to listen to gossip, so the two of them would go to the park together to meet up with a group of people their own age, chat, and talk about everyday matters.

Mrs. Zhuang was a refined and gentle woman who spoke softly and calmly, complementing Sister Wei Hong perfectly.

Bonnie is familiar with them and they often get together. Like today, cooking and eating together is a common occurrence.

"Gu Ye, why are you only coming back now? You were away taking care of the kids for most of the day, and you didn't even answer my pager. I thought something had happened to you."

As soon as Bonnie saw Gu Ye, she launched into a tirade, completely ignoring Wei Hong and her husband standing nearby. She was genuinely worried about them.

"It's okay, honey, I'm fine."

Gu Ye knew he was in the wrong and that Bao Ni was genuinely worried, so he quickly comforted her and gave her a hug.

Wei Hong and Zhuang Zheng breathed a sigh of relief. After they finished making dumplings, it was already noon, but Gu Ye still hadn't returned. Bao Ni had paged him several times, but he didn't answer.

If I weren't driving, I wouldn't be so worried; I'm just afraid something might happen.

"It's alright now. Is there anything to eat? I'm starving. I'll talk to you guys after I eat. Sigh, it's not much good news."

Gu Ye was really starving. He hadn't eaten lunch, and it was already afternoon. He ate a whole plate of dumplings in one go and wanted more, but Bao Ni wouldn't let him. Eating too much at once would upset his stomach.

"Take it easy, eat tonight. Eating too much will upset your stomach. What happened? What were you doing?"

"I had just dropped my child off when Bai Chaoyang paged me, saying that Han Ye had fainted. So I drove over and took him to the hospital with Bai Chaoyang. We were busy with emergency treatment and contacting Han Jingyang and his sister, and I even forgot my pager in the car."

Gu Ye didn't expect that Han Ye would collapse so suddenly.

"Han Ye fainted? How is he now?"

Bonnie asked a question, thinking that Sister Wei Hong wanted to know.

"He's woken up, but the outlook isn't good. He's been overworking himself these past few years; his liver, heart, and kidneys are all failing. The doctors say the chances are slim, and the final result isn't out yet."

"Did Jingyang and Jingtian both go?"

Wei Hong no longer had any feelings for Han Ye, but the child was hers. While they were taking care of patients at the hospital, someone had to look after the child at home.

"When I got back, Jingyang had arrived, but Jingtian was still on his way. Han Ye wanted to see you and asked me to tell you."
