Chapter 59 Standby

"Sister-in-law, something happened!"

Captain Huang wiped the sweat from his forehead. He was much older than Tang Qiyue, but because of his position, he could only call Tang Qiyue sister-in-law.

"I just received a telegram. The battalion commander and Lao Hu were ambushed. There are many wounded now. Doctor Qin has gone to the dock to stand by. Sister-in-law, you are needed to help!"

Captain Huang didn't waste any time and directly stated the purpose of his visit.

Tang Qiuyue could guess that the person who suggested letting her go should be Dr. Qin.

"Give me a moment, I'll get the medicine box!"

Tang Qiyue did not refuse, and she was indeed worried about Zhan Zeye's situation. After all, Zhan Zeye was her biggest backer.

The two of them hurried along the way. On the way, Tang Qiyue asked about Zhan Zeye's situation. Captain Huang could only shake his head: "I don't know the specific situation either. I just told him to wait at the dock!"

When we arrived at the pier, it was already completely dark, with only a red glow remaining where the sea and sky met.

If you were not on standby at this moment, simply seeing such a picture, I guess no one would not be affected by such rich colors in nature.

Apart from the cries of seabirds flying by, there are also schools of whales and fish in the distant sea that occasionally jump out of the water and spray huge columns of water.

The waiting time is the most painful.

There is a newly built lighthouse on the island. As night falls, the headlights on the lighthouse are turned on.

As the headlights slowly turned, Tang Qiuyue rubbed her arms. She had come out in a hurry and had no time to change clothes. Although the temperature on the island was very high, the sea breeze after sunset was still a little cold when it blew on people with moisture.

Captain Huang and his men also realized that the time of Zhan Zeye and his men's return was uncertain, so they asked a few soldiers to drag over some dry branches, light them, and make a bonfire.

After the bonfire was built, the temperature and humidity improved a lot.

"Here's a bucket of crabs, grill them and eat them! We don't have anything else to do anyway!"

The person in charge at the dock was carrying a bucket of crabs and placing it next to the campfire. Although he was also a soldier, he was already semi-retired. After all, his situation was similar to that of the one-eyed uncle, except that the one-eyed uncle was injured in his eye, while this person was injured in his arm.

Although I can't use my arms, it doesn't affect my work. Besides, at the dock, I just keep an eye on the approaching ships and observe the situation on the sea, which doesn't require any effort.

Captain Huang asked a few soldiers to work, and they picked up the crabs with branches and threw them into the fire to roast them.

This thing does not need to be seasoned separately, the salty taste of itself is enough.

Doctor Qin frowned, disapproving of their relaxed behavior: "We are here on standby, not to eat and drink!"

She was worried about the condition of the wounded and thought that Captain Huang and his men did not care about the condition of the wounded and had no comradeship at all.

Several soldiers felt awkward and didn't know whether to continue.

The veteran with the injured arm took out a cigarette and lit it. He glanced at Doctor Qin and said in a bad tone, "What? If they don't dock in the middle of the night, we're just going to stand here and wait like idiots? Their lives are important, but ours aren't?"

Doctor Qin stamped his feet and said, "Uncle Li, that's not what I meant. I just think that soldiers should act like soldiers and obey orders first!"

Old Li was the veteran with a broken arm. He spat, "Bah! What's a soldier supposed to be like? You weren't even born when I was fighting the enemy with the old commander. I've never seen an old commander make such a big deal out of something like this!"

Captain Huang pulled Lao Li, fearing that his hot temper would drive Dr. Qin away, since he was the only military doctor on the island.

Doctor Qin's face flushed red. She had always been praised by others, but her medical skills were criticized by Tang Qiyue before, and now she was disliked by Lao Li because of her behavior. She had a strong self-esteem and almost gave up.

Tang Qiuyue looked at them and didn't show up at all. As a military wife, she was not in the same category as these people, so she wouldn't bother to reconcile them.

She saw a crab trying to escape from the fire, so she held it down with a branch and waited until the crab was completely still before she looked up.

Then she saw everyone looking at her.

"It's ready, do you want to eat it?"

Tang Qiuyue picked out a few crabs and asked Lao Li who was standing next to her.

Old Li was amused. Although he could not match the one-eyed uncle's iron tower physique, he had fought on the battlefield for many years and had killed at least eight hundred enemies. Even though he tried his best to restrain himself now, people still dared not approach him with his murderous aura.

A little girl named Tang Qiuyue was not afraid at all. She smiled and held up the crab and asked him if he wanted to eat it.

"Is this Ono's wife?"

Old Li did not refuse. He squatted next to Tang Qiyue, took the crab that Tang Qiyue handed over, and turned to ask Captain Huang.

Captain Huang nodded in agreement.

"Girl, are you waiting for Xiaoye here?"

Old Li broke open the crab's shell and started eating it directly. The crab was not very big and the shell was not particularly hard, so Old Li chewed it up and ate it together with the shell.

It seems that his teeth are in good condition.

Tang Qiyue's cheeks felt a little sore, "I guess so!"

She was called over, but she was not a doctor, so there was no need for her to emphasize the reason for coming over. It was reasonable for her to wait for someone.

Old Li watched Tang Qiyue eating crabs. The little girl's movements were obviously similar to hers, but he looked much more pleasing to the eye.

Although the crab shell is not very hard, it is still a bit troublesome for girls. Tang Qiuyue pinched the crab legs and the crab shell cracked, revealing the red and white crab meat inside.

You don't need to chew it with your mouth, just pick it up with the crab shell and the crab meat will come out. Then lower your head and put it in your mouth. The salty and fresh taste is really good.

Snap——

Snap——

Tang Qiyue took out the meat of a crab as easily as pinching a melon seed shell. She ate so seriously that she didn't notice that the people around the campfire stopped and watched her eat the crab.

When Tang Qiuyue finished eating a crab and threw the crab shell into the sea, she realized that Lao Li and Captain Huang had been looking at her.

"Um, do you need my help peeling the shells?"

Tang Qiyue thought they were staring at her because of this, but she didn't expect that this sentence reminded everyone and they all started to eat.

Each one of them is as vigorous as Lao Li. It turns out that soldiers have iron stomachs and can even swallow crab shells.

Only Doctor Qin looked at Tang Qiyue with a strange look: "Are all the daughters of you capitalists so special?"

Tang Qiyue tilted her head and looked at Doctor Qin. "Are the daughters of capitalists also human beings? Besides, I just ate a crab. Do the rules on this island mean that military wives can't eat like soldiers and have to stand at attention and wait for others?"

Doctor Qin: ...

Perhaps they didn't expect a beauty like Tang Qiyue to be so offensive, and they didn't know how to refute. It was only when one of the soldiers couldn't help laughing that the awkwardness was broken.

"Girl, don't listen to her nonsense. We soldiers are not made of wood!"

Old Li backed Tang Qiyue up, and she stopped arguing. But Doctor Qin was not happy: "But Captain Zhan told us to be on standby. She's not a soldier, but are you not?"
