Chapter 13 Bastard
Dusk fell, and the small mountain village was gradually shrouded in curling smoke. Shitou broke off a branch and stuffed it into the stove hole before raising his smoke-blackened face and saying, "No more firewood."
"Right away."
Qin Qing cooked a full pot of ground sorghum flour mixed with sweet potatoes.
Very sticky.
Shitou didn't pay any attention to these details. He just knew that his sister's cooking was delicious! The food was generous! It was filling!
The two idiots put the meal on the table and waited obediently for the adults to come.
Zhu Lihua walked in front, feeling tired, squatting on the steps and carefully picking out the wild vegetables from the basket.
The youngest son came up to her and made a trumpet shape with his hands, "Mom, the firewood is all burned out!"
The dry firewood in front of the firewood was brought down from the mountain by her and Qin Zhilin, which was enough for a whole month. Zhu Lihua sighed helplessly, these two kids are good at saving food, but they are waste firewood.
"I'll bring some firewood over after dinner." These days, everything is in short supply, except for firewood. There are dead trees everywhere, so we can just chop down a couple of them.
"Let me do it!" Qin Zhilin took over the conversation.
He is a man, and it is natural for him to do these things.
"Mom, grandma will come to visit tomorrow and ask if you need to bring anything," Qin Qing asked quickly.
Zhu Lihua wiped her face with a towel and felt relieved. "I'll come over and tell your grandma later!"
The four members of the family all went to work, and apart from anything else, they needed clothes. She wanted to ask her mother if she still had any cloth coupons so that she could get a meter of coarse cloth to make clothes for them.
After dinner, Qin Zhilin took his two sons to the mountain.
Zhu Lihua finished packing and went out.
…
"Hey, Lihua, have you eaten?" Song Huilan held a bowl of sweet potato rice and looked at Zhu Lihua who had just stepped into the yard with a smile.
"I've already eaten!"
As luck would have it, they happened to be having dinner.
Qin Tongtong and her brother ate without even raising their heads. With their mouths full of rice, they mumbled "Mom" and that was considered a greeting.
Qin Zhimu was not surprised. She took a quick look and then understood the purpose of her visit. "Mom, I heard Qingqing say that you will be in town tomorrow?"
Song Huilan raised her eyelids and glanced at the old woman. Old Lady Lu replied solemnly, "Yes, there is this thing. Do you want to take it with you?"
She hesitated for a moment.
She said with difficulty, "If the supply and marketing cooperative has any defective cloth that doesn't require a ticket, please bring some to me." Then she handed the money in her hand over.
Song Huilan said sarcastically, "Mom, if you have any, bring some for me too."
Old Mrs. Lu took the money handed over by her daughter-in-law with her old hands as thin as tree bark and glared at the eldest son's wife. She had a lot of banknotes sent by the third son in her hand, which she had used to buy a lot of things for the two families.
But Song Huilan always has to say a few words before she feels comfortable.
Afraid of suffering any loss.
How could she have been so blind to pick such a short-sighted woman for the boss?
"Mom! Mom!! Mom!!" Shitou ran into the house crying with tears and snot, and there were a few rotten leaves on his head.
"What's going on?" Zhu Lihua was so frightened that her heart was lifted.
"My dad, he rolled down the mountain." Shi Tou choked and gasped, looking at Zhu Lihua with tears in his eyes, as if he had found his backbone.
"Oh my God." Old Mrs. Lu was so frightened that her voice changed and her lips trembled. "How is it now? Where is your father?"
Looking at her grandson's dirty face, the old lady couldn't utter a single word for a long time. She was so anxious that she clenched her hands and rushed out.
Zhu Lihua also ran after her mother-in-law with a weak body. She held her son's hand tightly, and her fingertips turned white from the force.
This time, my sister-in-law didn't say anything dirty.
He followed behind without saying a word.
The hut was dimly lit by the kerosene lamp at night. The small main room was crowded with people. Qin Zhilin was lying on two chairs with a painful expression on his face. His trouser legs were wet and blood was dripping onto the ground.
The barefoot doctor beside him lifted the rags covering the wound, causing Qin Zhilin to groan. He frowned and said, "My leg may be broken. If I need help, I can only go to the clinic in town." The clinic in the county town is of course the best, but it's too far away and he was afraid that it would delay treatment.
Qin Qing squatted beside him worriedly. God knew her heart almost stopped beating when Qin Zhilin was carried here by Uncle Aiguo just now.
Qin Zhilin was also filled with regret. He had already chopped enough firewood. He saw a lot of new dandelions growing on the cliff and thought that his mother would go to the town tomorrow and maybe he could exchange them for some money.
If all else fails, you can pick some and make soup to relieve the summer heat.
Unexpectedly, instead of picking the herbs, he fell down and suffered a great loss.
