Chapter 22 Imperata Root
After two days of peace, everyone felt relieved and Qin Qing could finally go out for a walk. After breakfast, she went straight up the mountain despite Zhu Lihua's inquiring gaze.
When they reached the top of the mountain, they saw Shitou sticking his butt out and grunting as he pulled out some half-green, half-yellow leaf grass. His hands were covered in cuts and scars, with many small wounds. When he saw Qin Qing coming, he straightened up, greeted him, and then squatted down again.
It's rare to see someone so diligent.
There is no way. There is much less grass now, unlike before when we could just pluck a handful. We can only pull out some of the grass that no one wants and take it back to feed the pigs. After all, people are almost out of food and can't take care of these animals.
"Little sister, please wait a moment, I'll be ready soon." Shitou raised his hand to wipe his face, then turned sideways and called out.
Unexpectedly, Qin Qing came over with great interest.
Suddenly, a faint smell of fire wafted out.
"What's that smell? Little sister, did you drink the milk?" Shi Tou's eyes widened with disbelief.
Qin Qing closed his mouth guiltily. Seeing that Shitou still had a curious look on his face, he wailed in his heart. He had made a wrong decision. He had forgotten that this kid was very sensitive about food.
Then he took out a White Rabbit candy from his trouser pocket and handed it to Shi Tou.
"Hey, my classmate gave me..."
Shitou's eyes widened. Although he didn't know what this thing was, it was not difficult to guess that it was precious. He held his eyes tightly and said, "You eat it! I don't want this..."
That being said, it was a pity that he couldn't bear to look away even a little bit.
What a great classmate! Why didn’t he meet him when he was in school?
He was distractedly pulling out the white grass at his feet and accidentally pulled out the roots.
It immediately caught Qin Qing's attention.
Why does this, this, this look so much like the wild vegetable Houttuynia cordata?
Qin Qing quickly stuffed the candy that was in the way to the stone, plucked a piece of white reed root, shook off the dirt on it, and tentatively put a small piece into his mouth and began to chew.
Qin Qing's eyes suddenly lit up, and a sweet taste burst out of his mouth. The roots of this grass were actually sweet.
When Shitou turned around, he saw his sister chewing a grass root with a satisfied look on her face. He immediately felt that the candy in his hand was a hot potato.
He starved his sister to such an extent that he even ate the grass roots.
He snatched away the remaining grass roots from Qin Qing and said angrily, "Don't eat it. You can eat my portion of the vegetable dumplings at noon later."
Qin Qing looked at Shitou with a puzzled expression. Seeing the guilt, shame, anger and heartache in his brother's eyes, he realized that this scene might have touched the unknown depths of the boy's heart.
With great speed, she broke off a piece of the grass root and handed it to him.
Shitou encouraged him with his silly gaze, "Brother! You try!"
Unable to refuse the little sister's kindness, he took the mechanical medicine and stuffed it into his mouth with tears in his eyes.
etc.
This grass root is sweet!
Shitou turned around suddenly and looked at the crooked cogongrass that he had pulled out, and immediately revealed a look of regret that he had made a mistake.
The little boy smacked his lips and praised, "How sweet."
Suddenly, he no longer cared about the candy. Together with Qin Qing, he pulled out most of the grass roots around him and filled the backpack she brought with it. Then, with a look of regret on his face, he carried the backpack on his back and went down the mountain.
"Don't look at me, brother. Come back later." Although this thing is sweet, it can't fill the stomach. It can only serve as a snack for children, but at the moment, it can be regarded as precious food.
This is really good stuff.
Shitou followed closely behind his sister, carrying most of the things on his back. It became apparent that there were more people at the foot of the mountain.
An old lady in a deep blue cloth shirt stared at the white imperata roots on the stone's back with shining eyes. Compared with them, her small basket of gray vegetables seemed pale in comparison.
"Wow, what nice reed roots! Stone, where can we dig them?"
Qin Qing recognized that this was the widow Yang from the Yangjia Village Production Brigade. She often went to the foot of the mountain to pick wild vegetables, and she was quite familiar with the brother and sister.
