Chapter 27: Delivering Water (1/2)

Chapter 27: Delivering Water

The day after Mrs. Lu was buried, Zhang Ying went to find the brigade secretary and moved Yang Liansheng's household registration to Yang Aiguo's name.

The house made of blue bricks and glazed tiles was locked. Before her death, old lady Lu asked her grandson to move to his aunt's house so that he wouldn't live alone and attract jealousy.

These days, more people mean more mouths to feed. Zhang Ying was not like Lu Jinrong who spoiled Yang Liansheng. When the boy was not in school, she urged him to go to work and never had a moment's rest.

Life was not easy living under someone else's roof. Because his father's impulsiveness had caused trouble, the boy gradually learned to be patient.

But without good food and drink, the boy's muscles were thin. He did a lot of work every day, but all he had to eat was steamed buns with wild vegetables for two meals a day.

At first, Zhang Ying was reserved and didn't dare to treat his nephew too harshly, considering other people's opinions. Later, when he saw that the young man was no longer as rebellious as before, he gradually grew bolder.

Midsummer is approaching, the sun is scorching the earth, the moisture in the early morning has long been evaporated into the air, and there is a burning sensation when stepping on the muddy ground.

Taking advantage of the weekend, Qin Qing went out in the morning to pick a lot of wild mint and boiled some water. She hung it in a jar and waited until it cooled down before bringing it over. She wore a wide-brimmed straw hat on her head, which covered her little face tightly. Even so, beads of sweat still flowed down her cheeks.

You can imagine how hard and tiring it is to work underground.

"Mom, my little sister is here!" Shitou relied on his sharp eyes and saw Qin Qing's figure coming around the path early, carrying the basket with great difficulty.

He immediately put down his sickle, took two steps at a time, crossed the ridge of the field and ran to meet Qin Qing.

The basket was filled with a large pot of water.

Shitou couldn't wait to pick up the coarse porcelain bowl and pour out some water to drink. The well water was cool and sweet, and a faint fragrance flowed down his throat into his stomach, dispelling a lot of the summer heat.

Goudan also ran over. After being exposed to the sun for a whole morning, his throat was already parched and his lips were chapped. He just wanted to drink a bowl of water to relax.

After drinking two bowls of cold water, he felt alive again.

Qin Qing attentively poured a bowl of mint water for Zhu Lihua. When she came back, she saw the two brothers hiding on the edge of the field, fanning themselves with their coats. When they saw her turn around, they put their coats down stiffly, looking honest.

"It's very hot, little sister. If I had known I would fill the water bottle before going out, you wouldn't have to suffer this." Goudan frowned slightly and sighed. At this moment, he felt hot all over and uncomfortable just sitting here.

"It can be dried into hot water here." Qin Qing smiled.

There was something unnatural about Goudan's expression.

In this hot summer, being able to drink a sip of cool ice water is simply the motivation for him to persevere for the whole morning.

The only response was, "I'm sorry to trouble you."

Qin Qing supported himself with his hands and sat on a ridge of the field that was half a person's height. His vision suddenly became wider, and he inevitably saw Yang Liansheng sweating profusely.

The young man worked with great seriousness and steadiness, leaving them far behind. His handsome face was tanned red in the sun, and even his jacket was mostly soaked with sweat and stuck to his back.

Qin Qing asked quietly, "Didn't Brother Liansheng's aunt bring any water?"

Goudan rolled his eyes and complained, "She's too lazy to go out, so she just comes to deliver food at noon." His eyes flickered for a few moments before he added, "The food is worse than ours."

Everyone knows that Yang Liansheng's uncle is working in transportation. Unlike farmers like them who work in the soil and depend on the weather for their food, he can never lack food and clothing.

Liansheng's aunt is not a good person! !
