Chapter 30: Catching Bamboo Rat (2/2)

Zhu Lihua was stunned for a moment, then quickly picked up two more mushrooms and stuffed them into Qin Qing's bowl, causing Qin Qing to repeatedly shout "Enough, enough!"

This is really shooting oneself in the foot.

On the other side, at the dinner table, Yang Liansheng swallowed the watery brown rice soup and drank a large bowl of cold water, but his hunger was still not satisfied.

He raised his eyes and glanced at the bamboo basket on the table. It was empty. Zhang Yingtong brought out three vegetable dumplings, and she ate two. It was impossible for a half-grown girl to be satisfied with just one vegetable dumpling.

He stood up and walked towards the kitchen.

Zhang Yingwen's gentle voice sounded behind him, "Liansheng, what are you doing?"

There was a sound of rummaging through drawers and cabinets in the kitchen.

After a while, the young man came out with a cold face, and there were only a few pitiful pickled vegetable strips in the bowl.

"Is there no food left at home?" He looked directly at Zhang Ying, not missing any subtle expression on her face.

The woman was stunned by his words for a moment, then put on an aggrieved expression and said hesitantly, "Sheng, are you not full? It's all my fault. I don't know why, but my appetite has improved a lot recently..."

"You don't know, all the wild vegetable roots on this mountain have been eaten up by these people. I don't have the ability to get much food..."

Tears welled up in the corners of the woman's eyes.

Yang Liansheng was still a child, so he was not sure at this moment. He only asked tentatively, "Didn't my grandma... leave anything for you?"

Shao Ge changed to a more euphemistic way of saying it.

Zhang Ying jumped in surprise, suddenly looked outside, and waved his hand, saying, "Liansheng, you know what the situation was like at home when your grandma left. Don't talk nonsense, or you'll cause gossip."

"Auntie will go to town tomorrow and ask someone to take a message, asking your uncle to bring back this monthly subsidy as soon as possible!"

Shao's expression eased a little. He put the pickled vegetables on the table, picked up the backpack that was thrown aside, slung it over his shoulder, and said, "I'm going to go up the mountain to take a look." Then he went out under the scorching sun.

Yang Liansheng walked very fast, suppressing the hunger in his stomach, and took two steps at a time to rush up Jingwan Mountain.

It got its name from a natural spring at the foot of the mountain. It is said that the spring never stopped flowing even during severe droughts. In the past, there were still people living on this mountain, but later they died out and left. The large bamboo forest on the mountainside became even more eerie, and fewer villagers came here.

Yang Liansheng grew up under the red flag and didn't believe in these things, so he was naturally much braver than others.

He felt a cool breeze as he stepped into the bamboo forest, and the heat was dispelled a lot. The sunlight shone through the bamboo leaves, leaving mottled light and shadows on the young man's face.

Yang Liansheng walked skillfully into the depths of the bamboo forest, his feet making sparse sounds as they stepped on layers of bamboo leaves. He looked to his left and finally found a few small holes.

The young man cleaned up the rotten leaves at the entrance of the cave, grabbed a handful of dry grass, lit it, and stuffed it into the cave. Soon, a noise was heard.

Yang Liansheng didn't even blink.

Seeing something rushing out of the cave, he quickly caught it. A fat bamboo rat squeaked but couldn't escape the clutches of the rat. Several other rats also rushed out behind it. Yang Liansheng only had time to catch one, and the others ran away in the blink of an eye.

The young man tied up the two gray-skinned bamboo rats tightly, threw them into the backpack, stepped on the burning dry bamboo leaves, and only went up the mountain after making sure there was no spark.

The top of the mountain is bare and rarely visited. This is why people are reluctant to come to this place. Apart from a bamboo forest, there is really nothing worth remembering on this mountain. Even the wild grass is pitifully scarce.

Yang Liansheng found a shady spot and skillfully skinned and deveined the bamboo rat. He then quickly built a small fire and roasted it until it sizzled.

The fat dripping from the bamboo rat made the fire burn even more vigorously.

A quarter of an hour later.

Guessing it should be cooked, Shao Ge tore off a piece of meat and stuffed it into his mouth. Although there was no salt added and it only had the natural aroma of meat, it made Shao Ge cry.

These were all leftovers from his past play, but now he had to eat them to fill his stomach. His life was getting harder and harder.

Looking at the deep mountains in the distance, his eyes darkened. No matter how hard it was, it was only these two days. He dared not touch the things grandma left behind. Unless it was a matter of life and death, it would be better if those things did not see the light of day!

After eating a bamboo rat, Yang Liansheng felt that his empty stomach was finally satisfied. Still not satisfied, he looked at the small bamboo rat on the fire, hesitated for a moment, and finally reason prevailed.

Wrap the bamboo rat meat tightly in green bamboo leaves.

Only then did he go down the mountain calmly.
