Chapter 45: Good Breed
Secretary He frowned and went straight to meet him.
"What are you doing? Zheng Mazi..."
Zheng Mazi looked over happily, his thin and sallow face showing his joy.
"Secretary, isn't it time to harvest the rice soon? I'd like to join in the fun."
He Jianyu had a stern face.
"What's there to see? I'll let you know when the time comes. Why rush?"
The latter was hunched over, trying to force a smile. Out of the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of Yang Kaifu sitting on the edge of the field, looking depressed.
"Captain, what's wrong? Did you get heatstroke? You look so bad..."
After Zheng Mazi finished speaking, he wanted to go forward and take a look.
He Jian'er stretched out his long arm to stop the man, pushed him back, and said angrily, "You watch all the fun and ask for trouble."
"I'm fine..." Yang Kaifu's hoarse voice suddenly sounded.
Secretary He's face fell and he quickly drove the people away.
"The sun is scorching hot. Let's go home to avoid getting a heat stroke."
Zheng Mazi said "Oh" obediently and walked back.
As I was walking, I turned back.
I saw the two men still sitting by the edge of the field, looking strange.
He Jianyi squeezed the rice ears in his palm and said with hatred, "The black-hearted merchants in H City sell a lot of good seeds, but look at them, they are all empty goods!"
Yang Kaifu's eyes were red, his hands were trembling, and he slapped himself hard.
"What are you doing?!" He Jianyu's eyes widened in astonishment, and he explained, "It's not your fault, why are you doing this?"
Yang Kaifu's mouth was full of bitterness, and he clenched his teeth tightly. "I bought these seeds..."
I never knew this would happen.
He Jianyu sighed, patted his shoulder, stood up and looked at the vast golden rice field. He said in a heavy tone, "We have to wait until all the grains are out before we can see. Don't panic yet..."
No extra words were said.
No one can guarantee how much grain this valley can produce in total.
…
Qin Qing and the others were completely unaware of the impending disaster. Shitou was chattering in the yard, counting on his fingers how much grain they could harvest after the autumn harvest. As he was calculating, his eyes lit up, and he approached Zhu Lihua with excitement, "Mom! When we harvest the grain, let's make some white rice for dinner. It's so delicious..."
Zhu Lihua smiled and replied, "Yes! It's all up to you!"
Judging from the growth of the crops, they should be able to get a lot of food. Yangjia Village is located in the mountains and beside the water, which is much better than the poor and remote area they were in before.
The grain output is naturally increasing!
Seeing that there is hope for this winter, even Qin Zhilin's face is full of smiles.
…
Yang Lianye sat on the steps with a square whetstone in front of him. He sharpened the sickle until it shone silver, and he already had a plan in mind.
According to his job, he only needed half of the grain after the autumn harvest, and the rest would be exchanged for money, so that he could go to school in the second half of the year.
This is money that I have worked hard to earn.
As for the things left by grandma, he didn't want to touch them.
Those things are disasters, causing greedy people to show disgusted faces. If you don't show off, you won't cause trouble.
This was also what Old Lady Lu had told him.
Otherwise, this half-grown boy wouldn't even be able to protect himself.
…
In the past, there were always many people digging wild vegetables in the mountains, but now there are less than half of them. People are like this. Once they have hope, they become lax. Who would be willing to eat these? Isn’t white rice delicious?
