Chapter 46 Farce (1/2)

Chapter 46 Farce

The next day when Zhu Lihua went to work, she noticed that several people looked unhappy. She sighed, as this was something they had never expected.

Sad days are still ahead.

People who have no idea about it are still waiting for food.

The rules are different in every place. In some places, the grain is distributed to the households and they have to pay the public grain tax themselves. In some villages, the public grain tax is simply withheld before the grain is distributed to avoid trouble.

After lunch, Qin Zhilin rushed to the old man's house, wanting to have a good talk with him.

"What? Empty, that's not the case. I think the rice seeds are pretty good."

Qin Zhilin said earnestly, "I've already checked, and there are many empty shells."

Qin Zhimu looked unconvinced. After a long pause, he said to Song Huilan, "Go, bring out the bowl of new rice from the kitchen so I can see it..."

Song Huilan smiled awkwardly, "What are you talking about? We don't have any new rice..."

The two grown men immediately looked over. Song Huilan smiled awkwardly and walked into the kitchen to grab a handful of rice that she had secretly hidden.

"Well, that's it."

She couldn't bear to eat it yet, and didn't know what the second one was up to.

Qin Zhimu rubbed the grains, and found only a few pitiful grains. He took a deep breath, as if he couldn't believe it.

On the contrary, Old Lady Lu beside her frowned and picked up the rice grains with trembling hands.

"God damn it! This is leaving us no chance to survive. With just this little food..."

The two men looked at each other and saw fear in each other's eyes. Qin Zhimu was the first to react and asked quickly.

"Mom, how many tickets do you have left? My second brother and I are going to town to buy some food tomorrow. I'm afraid we're going to be in trouble in this situation."

Song Huilan stood there like a fool.

It seemed as if he couldn't accept it, and it took him a long time to find his own voice.

"Master, is this amount of food enough to pay the public grain tax?" Her voice trembled a little, as if she was frightened.

Qin Zhimu really didn't bother to explain. After all, it wasn't his concern.

Old Mrs. Lu hurriedly took out several food coupons and said anxiously, "These are all I have!!"

Qin Zhimu took it without saying a word and discussed with his second brother the time to buy food tomorrow. They should not make too much noise to avoid causing panic among the crowd.

After all, they are taking this action to be prepared for any eventuality.

The next day the two brothers hurried to the town, but unfortunately the food had already been sold out, leaving only some expensive flour.

Qin Zhilin's brows were furrowed, it seemed someone knew this before them.

What the two of them didn't know was that these good seeds were bought by Yang Kaifu and several large teams from the surrounding areas in Hān, and their village was not the only one that suffered.

It was almost noon when Qin Zhilin came back with a bag of cornmeal, and Zhu Lihua hurried to meet him.

"Master, how is it?"

Qin Zhilin shook his head.

"The food in town has long been sold out, and yet they snatched this at a high price..."

Zhu Lihua looked at the bag of cornmeal with concern.

Qin Zhilin smiled at her soothingly and said, "Don't be afraid. I still have some money left from the money you gave me. I'll go to the county town to check it out tomorrow."

Now we have to see how much food Yang Kaifu can give them.

A few days later, everyone watched as Yang Gui pulled cartloads of dried grain to the park, their eyes filled with anticipation.
