Chapter 5 Sweet Potato Porridge
Yangjia Village has a small population and is widely dispersed, so there is plenty of land and I haven't heard of any family running out of food.
Qin Qing discovered that some people even raised chickens in front of their houses. These animals were not frightened when they saw them. It was obvious that they were used to being raised freely. They pecked at the ground with their two claws proudly.
Life in Yangjia Village is indeed not bad.
The captain led them around in a circle before bringing them to the east end of the village, where food had already been arranged. Smelling the long-lost fragrance of rice in the air, these hungry, sallow-faced people began to quicken their pace.
Qin Zhilin quickly picked up his little daughter, trotted a few steps, and when he arrived in front of the house, he took out his porcelain bowl and started to line up. When it was their turn, the lady who was scooping rice saw that Qin Qing looked extremely hungry, and felt sorry for her. She dug a few times in the bottom of the bucket with a big spoon and scooped out a bowl of sweet potato porridge that was obviously thicker than others.
Qin Zhilin hurriedly took it and thanked him repeatedly.
The rice is made from a thick rice soup with big pieces of sweet potato chopped into it. It is stewed until it is soft and fragrant. It tastes sweet and soft.
After everyone had finally had a full meal, Yang Kaifu, the team leader of Yangjia Village, told them that if they were willing to stay, they should register with the village party secretary. Each person could receive 10 kilograms of sorghum rice and 10 kilograms of sweet potatoes. Their household registration would then be in Yangjia Village, and they would go to work together during the busy farming season.
Qinjiaba was originally a small village, and the villagers were all related. Except for a few families who decided to go and live with their relatives, most people were willing to stay.
The next step was the distribution of houses. Qin Zhilin was very lucky and actually got a small courtyard with three rooms. Although it was a bit shabby and the location was quite remote, the family was still very satisfied.
Mrs. Qin and her friends got the house that was previously used by the brigade to store farm tools. It was a draw, but there was no way to regret it.
Mrs. Qin complained sarcastically, "It's not only dirty and messy, but the house is also so small."
Because the courtyard they drew had only two rooms.
Captain Yang explained in a good-tempered manner, "The land has been granted to you. If you are willing, you can rebuild it yourself."
After thinking for a moment, he added, "Most of the houses being renovated this time are two-bedroom units." There was absolutely no intention of favoritism.
Mrs. Qin's expression finally softened a little.
"That big blue brick house just now..." It is also covered with a lot of beautiful glazed tiles. Don't think she is blind, but she can see it at a glance.
"That's Liansheng's grandmother's house. His great-grandfather is from our Yangjia Village." That beautiful house was built by their ancestors and has nothing to do with them.
"You are such a talkative fool! You won't be happy until you sleep on the ground outdoors!" Old Mrs. Lu came up to her daughter-in-law, wanting to poke her on the forehead with her finger.
You're causing trouble as soon as you arrive. I thought this was Qinjiaba, and you were allowed to act arbitrarily.
Qin Zhimu hurriedly stopped his mother, "Mom, Huilan didn't mean that!" She caught a glimpse of Captain Yang's indifferent expression, and then Mrs. Lu stopped making trouble.
It's just for outsiders to see.
They can’t make people feel that they have too much to do as soon as they arrive.
Song Huilan hid behind her husband and curled her lips, but fortunately someone soon expressed her feelings.
"Aunt Lu, your eldest son was only allocated two rooms. They must be worried about where you will live forever!" Zhang Laizi, a famous man in the village, laughed.
In the past, Boss Qin relied on his position as the scorer of the team to give these sneaky and slippery people a hard time. Now, of course, he would take advantage of the opportunity to add insult to injury.
"I can live wherever I want, why are you bothering me?" You old rascal who has been single forever!
Aunt Lu retorted without any hesitation.
Zhang Laizi leaned against the locust tree in a nonchalant manner, looking as if he was watching a joke.
Qin Zhimu ignored his wife's little movements behind his back and kept a smile on his face.
"Mom, let's just do it the same as before. You just follow us. We'll put a curtain in the bedroom to separate the two rooms and let you and Tongtong live together..."
"That's fine!" Aunt Lu responded. She had made up her mind not to live in her second son's house.
“…”
Qin Zhimu thought that according to his mother's temper, she would at least make a fuss and put the matter out in the open to make it more pleasant, and then he would push it to the second son's family.
Unfortunately, Mrs. Lu didn't play by the rules this time.
Qin Zhilin's family had no idea what was going on here. They were busy tidying up and cleaning their new home.
There are three rooms in total. The two naughty kids sleep in one room, the couple and their little daughter sleep in one room, and the remaining room is cleared out for my mother to live in.
Qin Zhilin happily went to pick them up, but he learned that Mrs. Lu would not live with them. He hesitated for a moment and then persuaded her, "Mom, at least it's more spacious. Why don't you come and live here?"
"I'll just stay with your eldest brother. No need to persuade me." Old Mrs. Lu waved her hand to refuse.
The old lady's face was full of unhappiness, and she didn't even look at her son.
What a bunch of stupid things, it's an eyesore to look at them every day. If Qin Zhilin is really a good son, he should send the kids he picked up back to where they came from, so as to avoid wasting so much food.
Qin Zhilin had been keeping this matter about his mother to himself. The children could see that their father was worried and dared not say a word. The relaxed atmosphere when they first arrived at the new home was gone.
Zhu Lihua brought a large bowl of cooked sweet potatoes and their leftover wild vegetable pancakes to the table. The porcelain bowl landed on the table with a heavy and deep sound, waking up Qin Zhilin who was in a complicated mood.
