Chapter Forty-Five: Conducted in Private

After she came to terms with it, He Tiantian felt cheerful, a smile playing on her lips, radiating strength and confidence. She believed she had the ability to change her own destiny and that of her loved ones.

At the same time, He Tiantian recalled how the Snake King hadn't ridiculed her earlier, seeing her pitiful and distraught state. It seemed the Snake King possessed some humanity; he wasn't a ruthless, cold-blooded person—oh, no, he shouldn't be a cold-blooded snake!

Since that's the case, He Tiantian came up with a plan. She would make good use of this in the future and get the Snake King to do more things for her! Now that her stomach was fed, she needed to think about her mental well-being. But that was a plan for the future, so she wouldn't mention it for now.

This is what happens when you take an inch and then a mile, as seen in He Tiantian's case.

The Snake King sneezed inside the barrier, thinking he was just feeling weak. Little did he know that a silly rabbit had his eye on him and was thinking about how to make good use of him!

Although the mountain road was difficult to walk, these difficulties were no problem for He Tiantian now. She was very satisfied with her body. Not only was she beautiful, even more beautiful than in her previous life, but more importantly, she was healthier, fitter, and full of strength than in her previous life.

While taking a shower yesterday, He Tiantian was surprised to see the muscle definition in her slender arms, a combination of athleticism and wild beauty, while her fair and smooth skin also exuded feminine charm.

That's not all. When He Tiantian was wiping her stomach with a towel in the bath, she accidentally discovered that her breasts had become bigger, her waist had become thinner, and she had more flesh on her buttocks. These changes in her female characteristics made He Tiantian like her body.

Especially her perfectly defined abs, which further enhance He Tiantian's figure.

Of course, He Tiantian doesn't know yet that the two attractive muscle lines are called abs; she just thinks they look good, full of charm and power.

Having adjusted her mood, He Tiantian quickly arrived at the foot of the mountain.

He Tiantian put the hay down and then took a broom to sweep up the animal manure in the livestock team's pen. Aunt Liu wasn't there; she'd probably gone to the village to watch the public denunciation meeting. In those days, there were no big shows to watch, so they treated public denunciation meetings like theatrical performances.

Old Qi watched from inside the livestock team, fanning himself with a palm-leaf fan as He Tiantian busied herself with various tasks. Old Qi was an old man who knew how to enjoy life. He was already this old and didn't have many years left to live, so he would avoid doing these things if possible. After all, he had done enough when he was young and didn't need to work so hard in his old age.

After cleaning the cowshed, pigsty, and sheepfold, He Tiantian went to deal with the four pheasants.

"Sweetie, you're in luck today! You caught another pheasant?" Old Qi put down his palm-leaf fan and walked over to He Tiantian, surprised. The pheasants were large and plump, and would be delicious whether braised or stewed.

Since He Tiantian came, Old Man Qi has benefited a lot.

"Yes, we've set a few more traps," He Tiantian said. "We'll make chicken soup for everyone later. Grandpa Qi, could you boil some water first?"

He Tiantian drained the chicken blood, filling a whole bowl, added some salt, and let it coagulate into chicken blood, which she could use to stew dishes that evening.

"Yes!" Old Qi answered readily. In these days, everyone is short of oil and fat in their stomachs, and having meat to eat is a rare treat! Old Qi can't do delicate work, but boiling water is a very simple task that he can do.

Before long, Old Man Qi boiled a large pot of water and poured it into a large porcelain basin. After the water had cooled slightly, He Tiantian began to quickly pluck the feathers. He Tiantian did this job skillfully; she had done it in her previous life and was very professional at it.

To save money, in her past life she would buy live chickens wholesale and pluck and clean them herself, not only to save money but also to ensure better flavor. Buying frozen chicken directly resulted in a much worse taste.

He Tiantian pickled two chickens to cook for them tomorrow, and used the other two to make chicken soup today.

Two large pheasants were chopped up, filling almost a basin. First, they were blanched in hot water to remove the blood and scum. The pot was then cleaned and filled with water. When the water was half-boiled, the chicken was added, along with seven or eight slices of ginger and a few scallions. It was brought to a boil over high heat and cooked for a few minutes, then simmered over low heat.

It was hot inside, so He Tiantian put enough firewood at the bottom of the pot to slowly boil the fire before coming out of the kitchen to cool off.

"Sweet girl, you made so much, I can't finish it all!" Old Man Qi couldn't finish it all and wanted to share some with the others.

A lot of people have come here, including an old soldier. Judging from his resolute eyes, he must have held a high-ranking position in the past.

Old Qi had also risked his life on the battlefield before, and he felt great sympathy for that man's situation, so he unconsciously wanted to help him out.

"Grandpa Qi, I have a secret to tell you, but you mustn't tell anyone else, not even Aunt Liu," He Tiantian whispered. In the future, when she interacted with Professor Gu and Professor Wang, she would inevitably have to deal with Grandpa Qi, so she decided to explain their relationship to him.

"Go ahead and say it," Brother Qi said, seeing He Tiantian acting mysteriously, and he wanted to hear what she had to say.

“Professor Gu and Professor Wang were my grandfather’s colleagues. Although our families didn’t have much contact, we still knew each other. Actually, they were both professors and teachers at the university. Professor Wang studied in the United States before the liberation, and he was used against us for this. In reality, they worked diligently and were not evil people. They are getting old, and I’m quick and efficient, so I’ll help them if I can.” He Tiantian said softly, “We can handle this privately to avoid being caught using it as a pretext to make a big deal out of nothing.”

He Tiantian believes that the premise of helping others is not to get yourself involved.

Old Qi sighed deeply after hearing this, "Alas! It's all a mess! Oh well, the decisions made by the government are not something we ordinary people can change. Since that's the case, I will take good care of them. Secretary Qi is also thoughtful; yesterday he had someone build them a thatched house, far from the village, so it will be quieter."

“Yes, Secretary Qi is a good person, and Grandpa Qi is a good person too,” He Tiantian said with a smile. “As long as it’s not the kind of thing that involves murder, arson, or other crimes, as an elder, I will respect it. I can hunt, and I will often prepare meat for you and them to nourish your bodies.”

"Great, I'm benefiting from this." Old Qi chuckled. This girl is kind-hearted and knows how to respect the elderly; she's good at heart.

Just then, Qi Ergou drove over in an oxcart. Professor Gu and Professor Wang went to the back.

Aside from some straw and mud on them, they were not seriously injured.

He Tiantian was finally relieved after seeing this.

Qi Ergou moved the ox to the cowshed, put the oxcart inside, and then took the people into the house.

Qi Ergou was quite tired today. After saying goodbye to He Tiantian, he hurriedly went back.
