Sun Yuzhu picked up the washed apples and handed one to Su Qing. "Xiaohao's marriage is indeed a problem. Last time I introduced him to an elementary school teacher here, he thought her face was too big and not pretty enough. Then I introduced him to a nurse, but he thought she was too short and not nice-looking."
Su Qing said, "Xiaohao is like this. He likes good-looking girls. I saw that the girl today was good-looking and had a nice figure, so I thought of introducing her to Xiaohao. But I didn't know what her family was like." Su Qing shook her head.
Sun Yuzhu continued, "If the family doesn't look good, you can't marry her no matter how good she looks. Don't get a bunch of poor relatives right after getting married. How can you live like that if they keep asking for money?"
Su Qing said, "From what she said, she'll bring my brother to our military primary school after the New Year. She's really thinking too much. Can anyone get into a military primary school if they want to?"
Sun Yuzhu thought of her eldest grandson who was in the fourth grade at the Military District Primary School and laughed, "Exactly. Our Military District Primary School isn't open to just anyone."
Sun Yuzhu was about to ask Su Qing what this girl did and why she had the crazy idea of sending her younger brother to study in the military primary school, but before she could open her mouth, her husband Gong Qianjin came in with a bag in his hand.
When Gong Qianjin saw Su Qing, he curled his lips and smiled faintly, "Su Qing is here." Then he walked straight into the house.
Su Qing knew in her heart that her aunt didn't like her. Because of her work, her aunt had quarreled with her several times. Her aunt had been forced to make an exception to help her. After that, she became indifferent to her and was not as nice to her as before.
She stood up and said, "Aunt, I still have to go back to cook, so I'll leave first."
Sun Yuzhu took Su Qing's hand and said, "Stay for dinner."
Su Qing glanced at the main room and shook her head, "Jingjing will be out of school soon, and I have to pick her up."
Sun Yuzhu sighed inwardly, did not try to keep her, and sent Su Qing out.
Back in the main hall, Sun Yuzhu walked towards Gong, who was drinking tea, and complained, "Can't you be nicer to Xiaoqing? You always have a sullen face, and Xiaoqing hasn't been coming to my place lately."
Gong Qianjin snorted coldly, "Your niece, she won't come here unless it's profitable. She doesn't come to my place because there's no profit to be made here. If there were profit to be made, you'd see. Do you believe she can just move in?"
Sun Yuzhu was dissatisfied, "Don't say that about Xiaoqing, she's a good person."
Gong Qianjin was too lazy to waste time arguing with someone who was confused, so he went into the house.
Elsewhere, Song Yun had already started cooking dinner. Coming from the north, she loved rice and noodles. She made a pot of dough and set it aside. She'd steam buns once the dough was done rising that evening, perfect for porridge in the morning.
She planned to make knife-cut noodles for dinner, so she kneaded another dough, covered it with gauze and let it wake up.
She didn't buy any vegetables today. There were no other vegetables at home except ten eggs, so she went to the old courtyard next door to see if there were any vegetables.
The old man was sorting medicinal herbs. He was very careful in his work. When he heard the footsteps, he knew it was Song Yun. Without even looking up, he asked, "Have you bought everything?"
"Well, I kneaded the dough. We'll have knife-cut noodles tonight. I'll pick some vegetables from your place."
The old man still didn't look up. "I have garlic sprouts. Go to my kitchen cabinet and cut a piece of bacon. I'll make garlic sprout and bacon noodles."
Song Yun thought to herself, "You really know how to eat." She originally just wanted to have some vegetables and two eggs.
"Okay, we'll have noodles with garlic sprouts and bacon tonight." She first went to the kitchen to find the bacon and cut a piece, then went to the field to pick a handful of garlic sprouts and washed them next to the water pump in the old courtyard.
"I'll go first. Come over when you're done with this." Song Yun walked out of the yard with garlic sprouts and bacon.
A soldier's wife who happened to be outside saw this from afar, her eyes full of envy. They were eating meat, and it was meat from Gu Lao's house. She became more and more curious about the girl who had just moved in next door to Gu Lao. She turned around and picked up the little kid and went to the "intelligence station" over there at the supply and marketing cooperative.
