Chapter 38: Grandson (2/2)

While the noodles were being cooked, Ziyi also boiled water. The pheasants had been bled, so they could just be plucked by scalding them in boiling water. The brother and sister took out the two pheasants in the moonlight.

After eating the noodles, Qi Mo Nan washed the pots and bowls by himself. Then he picked up the rabbit and started to clean it up. His movements were neat and efficient, and it was obvious that he had done this kind of work many times.

After a busy day, at 10:30 in the evening, the two pheasants and the fat rabbit were finally packed up. It was cold at night, so Song Yun immediately put the pheasants and rabbits in a ceramic basin, covered them with another ceramic basin, and then pressed a stone on it to prevent them from being eaten by small animals that like to move around at night.

Song Yun took Qi Mo Nan to the side room on the west side where the kang had not yet been prepared. This was the only room that was suitable for living at the moment.

Qi Mo Nan naturally had no objection. Although there was no bed, at least there was a door and a window, so he didn't have to suffer from the cold and hunger outside.

Qi Mo'nan had just packed his luggage and was about to put two pieces of clothes on the ground to sleep when the brother and sister came again.

Song Ziyi was holding his sister's newly woven kang mat, and Song Yun was holding a bundle of sun-dried wheat straw. She had originally brought it from the threshing ground and intended to use it to start a fire, but now she was making a bed for Qi Mo Nan on the floor.

First lay the wheat straw, then the kang mat.

Qi Mo Nan thought that this bed was ready, but a short while later, Song Yun brought another quilt over and said, "This is the one my brother used before. Don't be disgusted."

In fact, it was used by Song Weiguo's beloved son Song Hongwei. Of course, he was also her younger brother once.

"Thank you!" Qi Mo Nan thanked him sincerely. The girl in front of him seemed kinder than he had imagined.

Song Yun yawned. "Alright, go to bed early. You have to get up before 10 o'clock in the morning and clear out everything in the room. Someone will come to clean the kang tomorrow, so it's best if you don't show up. I'm afraid it won't be clear what you're doing."

Qi Mo Nan nodded, "I understand."

Song Yun yawned as she walked into the woodshed in the backyard. Ziyi was already practicing martial arts, so she hurried to catch up. She was really afraid that one day she would be surpassed by Ziyi, this little eccentric with extraordinary talent. Then she would lose face as an older sister.

Song Yun's side had returned to calm, but the lights were still on in Captain Liu's house.

Aunt Wang heard her husband coming up and quickly got out of bed, dressed in her clothes. Seeing her husband looking tired, she asked, "What's wrong?"

Captain Liu shook his head. "What else could we do? We fell from such a steep slope. All four of us broke our arms and legs. One of us even had a head bruise. He needed multiple stitches and spent the whole time cursing in the hospital."

Aunt Wang felt no sympathy for these people. She frowned and asked, "Is it not giving you any trouble?"

Captain Liu's face grew increasingly grim. "These bastards, even though they fell down on their own, insisted someone was plotting against them. They couldn't explain why, and they gave me a hard time. Fortunately, the leader who came after them was reasonable and didn't make things difficult for them."

It wasn't that difficult, but it was a little difficult.

Aunt Wang cursed, "These bastards, why don't you throw them to death?"

Captain Liu was also puzzled. "This is a rather sinister thing to say."

"Why is it so evil?" Aunt Wang became interested.

"Four people's legs, all broken in the same place." He pointed to the bend of his right knee. "They're all broken in the same place. If it weren't for the fact that the four people's arms were broken in different places, I would have suspected that this was really a ghost."

Aunt Wang looked surprised, then curled her lips, "This group of people must have done too many evil things, and now they are getting their comeuppance."

Captain Liu didn't comment on this. He touched his stomach and asked, "Have you eaten? I've been hungry for almost a day."

So in the middle of the night, wisps of smoke began to rise from Captain Liu's house.
