The next ones to come were Bai Shuting and Bai Ruanruan, followed by Bai Qingfeng who came with the old lady.
After a lively exchange of greetings, Song Yun asked the old lady, "Grandma, you don't look well. Did you not sleep well?"
The old lady didn't care at all. "I'm old and don't sleep much. It's okay."
Song Yun disagrees. "The older you get, the more sleep you need. Otherwise, it will be a burden and harmful to your body over time."
Bai Qingfeng said, "Xiao Yun, do you have any ideas for helping your grandma sleep well?"
It's easy to do with a stick of calming incense.
"I'm going to make some calming soup for grandma today. It's milder than sleeping pills and suitable for someone her age. But taking medicine all the time to fall asleep isn't good either. I'll prepare some ingredients and make some calming incense. When you can't sleep, just light one. It's more comfortable than taking medicine."
The old lady was overjoyed to hear this. She held Song Yun's hand, unwilling to let go. "Okay, grandma will listen to you. I spoke to your mother on the phone a few days ago. When your mother heard that you and Ziyi were both coming to Beijing for the summer vacation, she was a little jealous, hahahaha."
Seeing the old lady smiling happily, Song Yun felt much better. Then she heard her uncle say, "There's progress on your parents' rehabilitation."
Song Yun was stunned for a moment, then surprised, "Really? When?"
Bai Qingfeng shook his head. "The specific time hasn't been set yet, but the higher-ups have already sent people to investigate this matter. From what I understand, your parents were originally charged with being capitalist-roaders, accusing them of transferring domestic assets overseas. The so-called evidence used to convict them was definitely fake and uninvestigated. We haven't had any contact with your parents in years, so there's no way they could have transferred any assets. Furthermore, your parents have been teaching at a school, and besides real estate, they don't have any assets to transfer. A thorough investigation will reveal this clearly, and those behind the scenes will naturally be forced to reveal their true colors."
Song Yun remembered that the real large-scale rehabilitation movement did not begin until late 1976. If she and her uncle had not intervened in this matter, her parents would have had to stay in Heilongjiang Province for at least another year and a half.
Now that things have taken a turn for the better, maybe I can come earlier. I hope I can celebrate the New Year reunion in Beijing this year.
It’s a pity that with her and her uncle’s current abilities, they can’t help Mr. Qi and Mr. Mo. They can only try their best to help them live a better life over there and avoid being persecuted.
At noon, Ge Meilin and Bai Ruanruan, mother and daughter, cooked. Ge Meilin had only recently learned to cook from her daughter. She had lived a life of seclusion in the first half of her life, but she did not expect that in middle age, she would start cooking again. Not only did she have to learn to cook, but she also had to learn to do all kinds of housework. However, as she watched her husband getting better day by day, and her daughter and son becoming more energetic than before, she was full of energy and did not feel tired at all.
After lunch, Song Yun went out for a while, and when she came back, she was carrying a big bag of medicinal materials. Some of them were prescribed by the hospital's Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and some were stored in her storage compartment. Except for three days' worth of tranquilizing soup, the rest were used to make tranquilizing incense.
After putting her things down, Song Yun asked Bai Ruanruan, who was sitting by the patio enjoying the cool air and reading, "Where are Shu Ting and Zi Yi?"
Bai Ruanruan didn't even raise her head, chewing the melon in her mouth, and mumbled: "They went out to play. They left as soon as you left. I don't know where they went."
They all knew that Ziyi was a man of great ability and ordinary people could not get close to him. With him and Shuting together, everyone felt at ease and was not afraid that Shuting would be bullied by anyone outside.
Song Yun naturally felt at ease with her brother. After asking, she moved closer to Bai Ruanruan and asked, "What book are you reading?"
